Medellin: Hotels/Safety/Women/Mayorista
Hotel:
After spending a weekend at the Sheraton hotel, I have NO CLUE why people would stay at the mansion/Castillo/VIP. The Sheraton is connected to a supermarket and a mall which has a US quality movie theater (the movies are usually in English with Spanish subtitles.) The mall has about 10-20 different restaurants/eateries all at a reasonable price. I would never bring a girl back to my room, however tweeners, who stayed at the same hotel (THANKS FOR THE RECOMMENDATION! ), told me that he did not have any problems bringing women back considering the fact that he was discrete and the women were dressed well (he also booked for double occupancy.) In addition to the aforementioned niceties, the $85/night includes a free breakfast buffet.
Safety:
WHAT IS ALL OF THE FUSS ABOUT? I’ll admit, I was a little cautious my first night there. However, after that I was walking around at all hours of the day or night snapping pictures of everything like a stupid tourist (I did keep my camera in my pocket in between photos.)
Everyone there that I met, upon finding out that I was an American, acted as if it were there civic duty to explain to me everything there was about Medellin, and make me feel as comfortable as humanly possible. One guy even invited me to his house at the end of a Metro Cable ride. He was so sincere, it almost broke my heart to tell him no (he was riding along with his two young sons.) Although I declined his invitation, he took the time to explain to me about the history of the area.
I at no time felt afraid, or felt that I was being overly watched. It’s hard to feel afraid in a place that has what seems to be 2 policemen per block. What everyone there always said was, "Please come back! " Or, "when are you coming back? " I even met a young guy there who was a shoe shine man. He shined my shoes, and upon finding out that I was American, spent the next two hours explaining to me everything about Colombia, while at the same time asking me a lot about the US. He even brought me some food from a street vendor! Obviously I picked the food up myself, but he paid! The generosity of these people knows no bounds!
As a point of reference, I’m a black man who has been fluent in Spanish since 2002. Speaking of which, I had an INCREDIBLY difficult time understanding what the Colombians were saying. However, kindness and generosity is the same in ALL languages. Although I can be mistaken for a Colombian (since there are black Colombians), it is next to impossible to match their slang/accent. 80% of their language appears to be some sort of slang. In addition to that, I’m obviously not from there since I weigh about 225 and lift weights on a regular basis. The typical black Colombian is rather slim.
Women:
I will preface what I am about to say by saying that I visited Medellin during the weekend of semana santa. That said, what people have said in these forums about the quality of women here are lies and just downright preposterous to say the least. The ratio of good looking women to ugly/fat women is the same as it is in the states. If you want to see a fat Colombian woman, just go to the mall my friend. That said, there are beautiful women there. It’s just that there are no more beautiful women there than there are in the states. I won’t report on the casas, since they were depleted due to semana santa. However, I did find some acceptable women there as well as in the strip clubs.
Mayorista Street Girls:
I went there on Friday, and it was dead (due to semana santa.) I would not go back to this place again. If you’re not having sex, there’s nothing else to do! (sorry Frank.) I would be bored stiff (pardon the pun) between sessions. The downtown area is much nicer with a LOT to do.
If you prefer street girls, then walk along calle 53 west of the strip clubs on my map. There, you will find plenty. They are located one block west of the fat statues. They are easy to spot, since each hotel has about 3-6 women which are barely dressed. There are about 2-3 blocks of street girls. About a block before this street dead ends, you will find another block of street girls. The girls at the end of the street are of very poor quality (however, again this was during semana santa.)
I am not certain that it is calle 53, however I do know that it is one block north of the fat statues. Once you reach the Museo de Antigua, you are there. The first block west is where the action starts. Check out the attached picture to see the quality of chicas there.
The setup appears to be the same as Mayorista. You go up with the girl in the hotel, pay the guys for the room, and then you pay the girl. The girl I was with was an a la carte chica. To take her shirt off was a tip, along with anything extra. She was VERY cool though. Although she said that it required a tip, she didn’t state how much. She also didn’t stop and force me to give her the money first.
Summary:
All in all, I was thrilled that I went. The girls are just icing on the cake for me. I would never travel to a place just to monger. Medellin would’ve been just as nice had I not had a single session. You simply MUST add Medellin to your travel plans. I hope to return when I have more time. I definitely did not have the time to see all of Medellin that I wanted to.
By the way, this is what is called a REPORT. The senseless chatter and bickering that goes on in this forum is ridiculous. It takes WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much time to find out valuable information here. Thanks to Tweeners and Tung who provided me a leg up. To those who said RTFF, I tipped all the girls I was with 50K!
