When I was at Tijuana in November of last year, I crossed pedeast (as I always do at the trolley) and when I got through the turnstyle, The immigration officer at the desk kept sending gringos to a room behind to talk to another officer. She had me standing around and then quickly stamped my passport and told me to go ahead. Are immigration authorities being even more difficult now?

But not all mongers want to ride public transportation and potentially sit next to some homeless person who smells like urine. You could take Uber Lyft and you'll still spend at least $40 plus uncertainty of crossing on foot dealing with border officials. Of course I don't guarantee that we won't be hassled by border cops in my car, but it hasn't happened yet. Heck last trip I had a guy who didn't even have a passport. We got randomly flagged over by the border cop and all he did was check my car registration and let us go. I was thinking oh crap he's going to hassle us because this guy I got with me doesn't have a passport, but luckily he just let us go without requesting passport.

I remember from SD airport to the SY border is around $66. Considering the OP would need to walk across and possibly pay the cost of the FMM and then have to hop another cab to the Zona or Centro for a minimum of $5. If he negotiates well.

I'd say $60 from SD airport to a hotel in Tijuana is a pretty good deal. I live in SD but I may actually be interested in a similar service from Jinx.

There haven't been many times, but of the 3 or 4 times over the years I've been stopped by the customs guys, they never asked for a passport or FMM. I don't recall them even asking for a car registration, come to think of it. They wanted to see in the trunk, look in the back seat, they had me open a sealed box from Amazon with a Christmas gift, and once asked to see a receipt for the value of an item ($40). You'd think they'd ask for DL, or passport, or something. That would be a good way to nab "illegal" crossers.

You avoid the visa fee. Of course if you don't have a passport it's also a good idea. Uber prices are double compared to a few years ago. There's no more rideshare, no more promotions, today traveled 18 miles on highway at 4 pm 46 dollars. Uber wanted me to pay $150. Had to sit there playing with app turning down rides. Uber is now as expensive if not more than taxi in non Tourist suburbs.

Me, I'm all about the $5 one-way public transportation from the airport to the border LOL. If you have a valid passport and decent excuse for travel lined up I'm assuming the chances of getting pulled into the customs office and shaken down for a bribe when walking across are not great, though that's just a guess. (I've never been pulled into customs with a valid passport, only a couple times when trying to pass with an expired one.) Point is I don't think the private transportation is necessarily worth it if your main concern is being harassed for the $30 visa fee as I think the chances of getting harassed are not great, relatively speaking. But for those who put that much value on the convenience of private transportation and saving at least 45 minutes on the travel time from the airport to Tijuana then yeah, it's probably a good deal.

Mr. Pampas costs about $12 AYCE grilled meats and seafood week nights after 6 PM.

Does anyone talk the guy out of it? Yeah, but I'd say once they bring g you to that room 95% aren't talking their way out of the fee. I sat and listened to the conversations when they took me in. And I've watched them walk a lot tourists back to USA gate. I even told a Latino couple with no bags to walk on Mexican side and of course the dude in green shirt was their. He stops everyone. If you walk on Mexican and the guy has green shirt your gona get asked to see your 6 month visa.

I checked uber.

Ride from SAN Airport to San Ysidro border crossing is 12 miles $29, about the same as before.

Ride from SAN Airport across San Ysidro border crossing to Hong Kong club is 15 miles $60. The extra 3 miles doubled the rate to account for the long wait to return to the US.

Ride from Hong Kong club to Mr. Pampas or Churras do Brasil is 3 miles 42 pesos or $2, where fabulous $12 AYCE Brazilian meats and seafood await.

Man, you guys really should be in Tijuana at least 3 times a week to relax and take advantage of these good deals, Mexican hospitality, delish food, hot girls, fun clubs, all so inexpensive. And stop knocking the meseros. They and their hungry wives and kids need to eat too.
