AND, in particular :

Is near to Red Way and Hotel Lido, the monger's headquarters in São Paulo!

I still visit Casarao, and almost always manage to make a new friend there.

Speaking portuguese a great help in meeting girls there, getting numbers and setting up rendezvous for later.

But without being to judgemental I wonder if die-hard mongers have an interest in the Centro Cultural de São Paulo, Centro Banco Itaú, Conjunto Nacional (where is located the fabulous Livraria Cultura). I would add to this list: Casa das Rosas, SESC (for afficionado of architecture like me: another realisation by Lina Bo Bardi) , The Trianon Park (in front of the MASP) and the nice exhibit of statues on Avenida Paulista.

Speaking of Centro Banco Itaú, I was thrilled last year to visit the exhibit showing the works of Jean-Baptiste Debret (1768-1848) because (being an university professor teaching, among others things, Brazilian Culture) one of my course (semester Winter 2011) was devoted to the pictural representations of Colonial Brazil by European settlers (French and Dutch especially). I had the chance last year to see de visu the real works themselves. (Another pleasure was to visit, in Santos, the Benedito Calixto museum).

I prefer Moema because it is quiet and there are less gringos. The streets are safe and when you know the city it is easy to reach any district in São Paulo. If I want to visit privés / clinicas in Brooklin or the region of Santo Amato, I just have to take a bus on Santo Amaro and in a couple of minutes I can relax in Espaço Morumbi, Clinica Cancioneiro, Clinica Kin, etc. (or buy things in Shopping Morumbi) On the other hand, I can take a bus on Lavandisca and in a few minutes I am at metro Santa Cruz (from there Vani's Place is close by). If I take a bus on Rouxinol, in a few minutes I'm in metro Ana Rosa (an easy walk from Red way).

Another reason why I prefer Moema is very simple: my GF lives there. Shopping Ibirapuera, several outstanding restaurants, being a jazz aficionad0 I can induldge myself in Bourbon street. After Jardims, there is the place where you can find a lot of GDP.

There is another location that is worth looking: Pinheiros.

Quiet district, nice shops on Oscar Freire, a couple of goods restaurants, the proximity of a metro sattion: Clinicas (and even Sumaré, where you can visit the Brasilian Jewish Culture museum) and the proximity of Vila Mada (Vila Madalena: where there are a lote of place to party!). Being an aficionado of Brazilian culture, I can buy a lot of rare second books (Sebos) on Teodoro Sampaio, Praça Benedito Calixto (where there is an hippy fair) , a branch of the FNAC and an array of shops (all along Teodoro Sampaio) up to faria Lima.

But, to sum it up, I you prefer a modern downtown setting (like Manhattan, for example) , the hotels on Paulista are the place to go. Note that several GDP live near that location (in Jardim). To each is own.

I gess less than 2% of the Paulistanos (Natives of São Paulo) have the knowlege you do!

I'm still eager to discover new bairros in São Paulo. This year I had two women students that were Brazilians: one of them is from Brasilia and the other one from São Paulo (Santana). As I don't really know that bairro she said that she will show me Santana when I will be in town.

Among my other projects are a visit of Vila Prudente (the cemetary in order to take pictures of nice tombs and artistic funeral monuments) , Carrão and Vila Formosa because I have never been in this part of Sampa.

Maybe I'll try a privê in Santana.

Among all areas in SP, I prefer Jardins and Moema (the second is the area where I usually stay now) , because they are nice areas with many nice hotels, at reasonable prices too, and many reastaurants you can chose from.
Shops and shopping centers are there too, or at least not too far.
Also, it seems safe moving around and I feel comfortable doing that at night too.
Coming to the hobby, many GDP lives or work in those areas, so they are easy to reach.
While years ago I used to monger during the week, in recent years I mainly monger during weekend when I am more relaxed.
Therefore, traffic it is not a problem when I need to reach other areas in SP.

Anyhow, if you come to SP for work, it is much better to stay in the area which is close to area you work, to avoid hours in the traffic.
