But then I nee to spend more money on 2 hotel nights.[/QUOTE]Book RT HKG-BKK. On Air Asia. Other Airlines Emirates (or is it Etihad) , Sri Lankan Airways. They are lot cheaper than Thai. But $1167 is not a bad price.

Tiger Air flies from Singapore.

Cebu Pacific flies from the Philippines.

Jetstar is also another one mainly flying from Australia, Singapore and Vietnam.

A few weeks ago I paid more for a flight from Brussels to Hamburg (1 hour and 5 minutes flight time) than I pay for Brussels to Bangkok. And to top it all, on that BRU-HAM flight we were served by stewards only. Not a stewardess in sight.

I got some very good deal on fare from HK to BKK last yr from a tour company round trip with 3 night hotel for only 280 USD book 3 days ahead, many tour company book hotel and airfare a lot so they get very low fare if they don't sell all the seat they will discount the seat low price at the last minute, I can get the airfare without hotel for 180 USD but for 100 buck more I can stay at the Atrium hotel for 3 night.
