TJ, thanks for the response
Slim,
Just in case you did not notice, I used American blacks and gringos interchangeably. So your post is a bit off base, though well-intentioned. You critique one of my posts with a fine-tooth comb then ignore the very next one where I call them gringos. If you had noticed this, then you would have seen your post was irrelevant.
Actuallly, it is gramatically correct to mantain the same subject. That is the only reason why I, late in the post, referred to "one other blacks," or whatever and not "the guys." Plus, "the guys" makes them sound like buddies!
Thanks for your response but it seems you are being critical for no reason. You yourself miss my use of American black and gringo interchangeably, yet get picky over smaller issues.
Most regulars on here know that I am racially sensitive. Again, I mentioned their race initially to ensure they knew who they were.
And, by the way, YOU start bringing up WHITE PEOPLE, not me. Whether you know it or not YOU need to take that out of your post because that is racially insensitive. I mentioned blacks for a reason. But you bring up WHITES when nobody said anything about them. Obviously YOU have some racial baggage and trust me, it is silly to try to apply it to me.
And just so YOU know it, though most already do, I AM NOT WHITE!
P.S. I just noticed from reading my post, as quoted by another person prior to your diatribe, that I SAID IT WAS OBVIOUS SOME of them were a-holes. So, again, you are splitting hairs here and proving you have some issues not me. If a person says some blacks in a group of blacks are a-holes, does he really need YOU to provide multicultural training? Dude you are way off base, though I think you meant well.
TJ
Tijuana,
I didn't see your use of blacks, newbies and gringos as interchangeable. This is a point I think will be lost on some of the newer forum users. Only history on the board corrects that.
I didn't mean the post as a personal attack on you and I think you see that.
Just thought the race description was not necessary, mainly because of how I read the forum and process information for use. When I'm in Rio, I'm usually running around so I don't read the forum. So I mainly read the forum when not in Rio and increasingly more as I near a trip. I read posts from the approach of lessons learned, not for information I will apply in the moment. So from my perspective I was looking at the larger lesson. If you read the forum for immediate application, then a racial ID would help those who wanted to avoid that particular group of guys. Again, I wasn't reading it that way.
Yes, I'm familiar with the life of Robert Beck, aka Iceberg Slim. He chronicled his life in the streets, the culture of the street, not in an attempt glorify or justify what he did. I happen to find the stories informative on how that culture exists and continues to exist. Lest you think I condone, the brutality of pimping, I don't.
