I also spent 3+ hours on the phone with my firm's security department and needed to fly back to the states early. I would not wish it on any of you! Thank you to those that helped me out that week, especially the fellow monger who let me crash in an extra bedroom for two days. I very much appreciate it.

Even those of us that have been traveling for years (15+ in my case) can fall victim. Keep your heads on a swivel, think twice about the security provided where you book, and stay safe my friends!

Both have good security doors at the street level, but standard interior door locks on the doors inside the common hall / stairway. Each time I stayed at these places I worried about this. During 2-3 different stays, some stupid gringos would leave the security door propped open because they were too lazy to go downstairs to let their chicas in, upon arrival. Or they were too drunk upon return to ensure the security door was closed behind. It was only a matter of time before this element of Medellin saw a target-rich opportunity. I even confronted guests in both buildings about the stupidity of this decision, only to be looked at as paranoid. They had NO idea the risk they bringing on to themselves or others in the building, but it was apparent they could care less about the risk they were bringing on to others. I will definitely not be staying at these in the future because the criminal element of MDE knows there will be future break-in's. Next time, the situation could be far worse than loss of personal items. If the owners are reading this, you might want to add security doors to the doors in the stairwell, possibly even an automatic door closure. At the very least, solid doors with deadbolt locks so your guests can feel more secure, especially when they are inside the unit.

All locks do is slowdown criminals. But the good part from my break in was that they didn't get my valuables because I actually had all them with me that day as I had some work to do with it. They did snag my laptop charger and weirdly they went through my frige and took my snacks. After that incident I have been looking for some sort of a portable alaram I can put on the door that will go off it there is enttrygained and will alert my phone. There are plenty on the market but none that are portable. If I find it I will message you. Sorry for the loss, but if you have home owners innsurance you can sometimes get that recovered. I hope things work out for you.
