Inquiry About Wi-Fi, Stay Duration, and Transportation to BB
I'm planning a trip to BB in June and had a few questions to ensure a smooth visit:
Wi-Fi Reliability for Remote Work:
Is the Wi-Fi in BB rooms strong enough to reliably use a travel VPN for work? Any specific locations you'the recommend for stable connectivity?
Would bringing a mobile hotspot as a backup be advisable?
Ideal Stay Duration:
How many nights would you suggest to comfortably sample BB's beauties? I'm considering 2-3 nights—does this sound sufficient?
Transportation from Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ) to BB:
What's the most cost-effective way to travel? I've heard taxis are pricey—are there shared shuttles or public buses available?
If taking a bus, which station (e. G. , Caribe Tours) and route should I use from SDQ? Is a taxi to the bus station necessary first?
Thank you for your insights—any tips or alternatives would be greatly appreciated!
Have not been to BB for a couple of years but.
I have not been for a couple of years since the place was sold so things may have changed. But I will take a shot at answering your questions from my perspective.
WiFi was pretty reliable with about 25 Mbps for streaming. I took my own Google stick and watched TV. You should be able to work but if there are storms then electric is not reliable. I used NordVPN worked fine for me all over the DR.
Cellular is not great at BB but Claro was the best.
I have stayed for a week or two weeks and sometimes a couple of days. Not much to do around BB so it can get boring at times. To sample, 2-3 nights should be fine. I typically would split my time between BB and Sosua.
When flying into SDQ this is how I would do my trip if not renting a car (not recommend by some).
Arrive in SDQ and spend the first night in Boca Chica. I take a taxi and I typically stay at Hotel Garant & Suites a decent low cost hotel.
Next day take a taxi or Uber to the bus station in Santo Domingo, There is a Carbie Tours route that bypasses Santiago that leaves around noon. (saves you and hour or more).
Take a taxi for Puerto Plata bus station to BB.
When leaving BB taxi to the bus station then back to Boca Chica to wrap up the trip.
If you are only staying at BB, you should do some of the tours or go to Sosua. If you want to go to Sosua for the day you can get a motococho in the morning to the bus station and Caribe Tours drops you off close to the beach in Sosua. You can also motochocho back to BB from the PP bus station.
My information may be dated but I hope it helps.
