Students interested in learning hear both sides, talk to profs one on one which all love to do, do some of their own research and make up their own minds. Those just after the paper so they can get a job or satisfy their parents usually aren't listening in those classes anyway. They take notes to regurgitate. Plus more often are off in technology fields where politics and historical interpretations are much less of an issue. Plus there are conservative and liberal leaning schools in every state. Then you could come around and say your doctor did not warn you about BBFS. The rights you have in Colombia are not the same as in the United States. The Federal police in Colombia don't run and hide whenever some gringo threatens to call the US Embassy.

This is information you really need to get into your thick skull before you go to Colombia, because the learning curve if you decide to play the "I don't have to listen to you because I'm an American" card, is really steep.

I doubt if the police are going to ask you to unlock your phone, whether in the airport or Parque Lleras. However, it's a possibility. If it's a possibility, then you should be aware of your lack of any right to refuse. Several of us have tried to make you aware, but apparently you're immune to knowledge.

Now, what can they detain you for? Suspicion of human trafficking, suspicious of trafficking with children, suspicion of possession of child pornography, suspicion of drug smuggling. And guess how the US Embassy is going to react? Are they going to rush to the aid of a suspected trafficker and pedophile? When the police produce evidence, are they going to believe your story over the police, especially when the Embassy is the US agency conveying to Colombia that they want them to help find all of the above.

As I've said already, if you get pulled aside for a search, before you start in with your temper tantrum, get someone to video it.
