They finally sent me back to Quito for a few days. It has been a while. Here is my report:

Sunday: Arrived mid-day. I planned on hitting Las Diosas (270 La Nina). It's supposedly open on Sundays, but for the third time in my mongering career I can't seem to find it. A scraggly looking guy across the street pointed to a door on a blue metal wall but said that they're closed Sunday. (I think they're closed period. Maybe I missed that closure in the Quito reports).

Back at the hotel, I checked mundoanuncio.com and decided to call "Belen" a. K. A. "Maria Belen". She has several ads, at least one with a good chest photo. On the phone she assured me that the photo was accurate and asked for $150 for 1.5 hours. I negotiated $50 plus $10 tip if we got along well.

A half hour later I met her outside on the street around 8 pm, in the dark, to check her out first. You never know. She was 22 years old, SMOKING hot thin body, very fair skin, braces on the lower level. Wow! I explained my rules while we were still outside: I'm paying for time, not "relaciones" – she has to stay the entire 1.5 hours. She agreed.

Upstairs, naked, her chest and everything else were perfect (and natural). I made short work of the first go around as I require 20-30 minutes between sessions. GREAT chest, nice attitude. The problem with 155 is that they nickel and dime you. The entry was $2.50. I know it's $15 for the chica, but she claimed right up front that it's $20 ($5 extra is for the room she claimed). OK, whatever. Then at the top of the stairs the "room girl" is there demanding $1 for servicing the room. Enough! I flat out refused. I told her to get it from Alexandra, whom I just paid $5 extra.

I had a nice time with Alexandra, nothing of interest to report. (I'm a straightforward guy. I usually skip the BBBJ because I don't like that acohol they douse you with.) Then upon leaving, the thin, rough looking guy outside directing the parking lot asked me for a dollar. I refused, got in a taxi and went back home to bed.

Tuesday: Café Rojo. Finally. I've been to Quito several times and just never made it there. Now, at 3 pm on a Tuesday, the place is jumping. Businessmen in suits everywhere, chicas all over the place. Nice décor but a little dark and a little loud. $2 to get in, $20 chica. No extra baloney. Buy drinks if you wish, if not no problem. There are no hassles. The girls leave you alone until you make eyes or summon one over. The men also leave you alone. My kind of place.

I chose dark haired Pamela from Guayaquil. Nice girl. I enjoyed twisting her into a pretzel (gently, of course). Wednesday: Guajira gain. This is my favorite place. I know many of you will not agree, but allow me to explain. They seem to have regular clients and are used to treating you nicely. Finally, you get a full 30 minutes instead of the usual 20.

I was left to get dressed alone and then to navigate that maze of rooms to get back down. I had the same experience twice in Cafe Rojo three weeks ago. It's 20 dollars but when I finished they were asking for more money. I just left. Next time, I'll talk to management and find out what is the policy if a female tries to get more money out of their clients. There are several threads about guest friendly hotels. Because I'm traveling on business I stay in the nicer places and they are all guest friendly as long as you keep it low key (Sheraon, Dann Carlton for example). I would mention it to the doorman and tell the chica to cover up when she arrives. Sometimes the hotel asks for her ID and makes her sign in. No big deal. Remember, it's legal, and the business hotels are probably where most of the visits take place.

Spent a couple of days/nights in town, here is my top 4 list:

4: Nightkats 5-10 ladies available, best time to go 11PM, Quality of girls: 6-7 some good looking girls in nice club but girls seem slightly reluctant to engage with customers, at least when I was there. I did not try any of the girls.

After canceling my trip to Quito once, paid $200 penalty to AA, I will be there during Thanksgiving weekend. Thanks to El Exigente who brought to my attention the recent electricity problems in Ecuador (posted in Travel Plans & Announcements). Man, the variables that can make or break a holiday. For the resolute monger pack candles, flashlights and stock up on batteries, please. Might want to bring your own iPod and speakers for tunes to set a romantic tone. And get used to drinking warm beers. Alternatively, if some chongos have generators then expect the entrance fee to spike 38 cents to pay for fuel. All the more reason to roll those pennies!

The blackouts continue and will do so for the next two months. In Quito various sectors are blacked out for 4 hours at a time. These blackouts are scheduled, and prior warning can be obtained from the electric utility's website. The power disruptions are very clearly diminishing the quality of life for all in Ecuador. Businesses which do not have generators are closing, traffic is strangled. Visitors should be aware of increased food poisoning risks as no business ever throws spoiled food away, and in many cases doesn't even know that spoiled food is bad for people.

Hydroelectric power shortages are causing rolling blackouts throughout Ecuador. The government expects at least a 5% cut in power to residential areas. Quito is expecting 10 percent with rolling blackouts in the afternoon. PAUTE, Ecuador – Alarmingly low water levels at the hydroelectric power station in this southern Ecuadorian city are to blame for recurrent blackouts in the Andean nation over the past week, authorities say.

The reservoir water level at the dam on the Paute River, one of Ecuador’s largest, stood at 1,968 meters (6,450 feet) above sea level on Tuesday, compared with an average level of 1,991 meters and and a minimum level of 1,965 meters.

This 25-year-old facility meets approximately 40 percent of Ecuador’s total power needs, but at present only two of its 10 turbines are in operation and cannot guarantee more than 200 MW of electricity between them.

“I’d never seen this so empty,” said one of the employees who accompanied reporters on a quick tour of the state-owned plant’s installations.

Paute can supply up to 20,000 MW per hour under normal conditions, but present output has fallen to just 4,000-5,000 MW per hour amid a severe drought.

Low rainfall amounts began causing alarm in September, traditionally a rainy month in Ecuador, and concerns grew further when the drought continued into October.

Residents of Quito, Guayaquil and other cities were hit with surprise nationwide blackouts last Thursday, while the government has called on citizens to reduce consumption as it seeks ways of mitigating the energy crisis.

Just a few miles from Paute, work is continuing on the new Mazar dam “to increase power generation at the Paute plant,” National Electricity Council Chairman Fernando Izquierdo said, though he added that production at Mazar would not start until next April.

Although drought conditions are expected to persist until December, an optimistic Izquierdo said expectations are for the country’s energy supply to increase next week. However, he still urged consumers to continue to conserve energy.

In that sense, he predicted that the current electricity rationing program – which includes power cuts of roughly four hours a day – could be reduced in half beginning next week.

A key factor in the improved outlook is a possible deal to import 1,200 MW per hour from northern Peru to meet demand in the southern Ecuadorian province of El Oro, Izquierdo said.

Colombia’s contribution will be smaller since that country is also suffering from drought conditions and, in a best case scenario, could offer Ecuador some 450 MW per hour. EFE

Once again thanks to Tungurahua for his post. It's funny that ISG as been the best source of information for Ecuador and not only the ladies. I am scheduled to make my second trip to Ecuador this week after a fantasitc first trip last year. After reading Tungurahua's post, I may postpone my trip.

I called both my hotel and Finn McCool's to confirm the rolling outages. There are 4 hour outages everyday but Sunday. Times are usually day time such as 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. However, there are some outages at night. Traffic comes to a standstill since all the traffic lights are affected as well as the Trolley. I've been warned about not being anywhere near the Marischal during a blackout since everything goes completely dark making the streets a great place for muggings. I was also informed that areas outside of Quito are effected even worse. Ibarra and Octavo gets 8 hours a day w/o electricity for instance.

Needless to say, this puts a major dent in my travel plans. I've been to developing contries where the electricity goes out often. It's a drag. Warm beer and spoiled food not to mention safety are just a few concerns. I'm curious to hear any reports from people currently in Ecuador. I have to decide in about 24 hours if I am going to abort my trip.
