You want to become an English Teacher and earn 10-12k a month, have no experience and no degree? Forget that. What you are asking is close to impossible in 2012.

A friend of mine (God help him) is a real teacher and needed a TEFL to apply for a Visa. No TEFL = No chance.

Also, this job is so demanded and competitive that the Pay is shit. My friend struggles on a monthly basis to make ends meet.

If you eat at the 25thb outdoor shackholes every meal and live in a THAI appartment at 3 5k per month with no Aircon, you'll be ok.

TEFL is paramount to get a visa and I am not sure if schools in Bangkok still allow Farangs to teach without visa. Maybe upcountry?

So is it still basically the same as it always was, just with the illusion that the government is now more strict and demanding all teachers have degrees and permits? Are these brave souls still doing the same routine like Khao San degrees and visa runs at the border? I have no problem with a cheap ass Thai apartment (though AC is a must) and street food as it's quite good in Bangkok. Thanks again guys for your imput.

There is a shortage of teachers and they need more due to asean. So not too strict.

A bit off topic, but there's quite a few English teachers living in the On Nut area, and their taste in women is horrible LOL.

Don't hiso Thai girls find clean cut falang teachers as viable candidates to raise their off spring?

Mr Satyr23, if you want decent money teaching English go to Korea or Japan (but not Tokyo).

TBH, I think one thing that holds back a teachers salary is that a lot of them, as native English speakers, don't even know proper grammar.

Another thing is their appearance is holding many of them back. No offense, but I wouldn't call a toothless ogre who smokes crack with his 40 year old hooker girlfriend a good role model LOL

Had a look in a few Cowboy bars last night. All the best girls in Sheba to my taste were missing.

Next went to Baccarat. Was absolutely packed out and this is Sunday. Mostly Japanese customers. Most girls looked dead and lifeless. They are clearly showing no enjoyment in being at work at all. Upstairs girls appeared to show some sexy attitude so went up there for a look, but a rather motely bunch. No one good looking. Too much silicone. In the end no girl really impressed me, mostly because of downstairs girls just standing jiggling a bit in place of sexy dancing, and upstairs girls being more sexy but very plain. Its my belief that hot dancers are usually hot fuckers. In this bar they all seemed like cloned dolls. Hard to tell who would be a fun girl.

Moved on to "Dolls House" upstairs as like to see girls with gear off. A very mixed bag here too. Lots of bad silicone jobs. One girl had very cute arse but front view was poor. Another girl had very cute face but body rather average. Another had nice body but face just wasn't quite my type. In the end I settled for a girl whose face was a bit below my spec but had a good natural body and very sexy dancing style, aged 30 but a relative newbie. Compromises seem to be necessary. Chemistry was going great as we kissed and cuddled in the bar. Price for ST was not discussed.

She was playful in the shower, and not too shy in the room either, and performance was up to expectations. Good BBBJ and very good overall sex. No hurry to leave either but had to pick up her "sister" after 2AM to go home by motorcycle to Bang Kapi. Her English was very poor so we conversed in Thai. Her intention was to save money and open a Spa with close relatives. This seemed a bad idea to me a Spas keep opening and business keeps going down every year.

Good performing bar girls are still out there when the chemistry is right, but there are a lot of girls out there who give off a vibe that while their body looks nice and face maybe O. K, they would be dull and mechanical in the room.

You can get much cheaper options and better looking chicks at other venues and they won't cost you half that much.

There is people looking at easy and safe (in their mind) options, rady to repeat day after day with the same girl who was "ok" the first night, maybe missing other gems the days after. So I think there is people paying 3k to the venue and 3 to 4 for the girl, thinking it is allright.

The informed people, thanks to ISG, for instance, are just a tiny fraction of the customer panel. Otherwise just 10 establishents could make a living in BKK.

It's always the same two and nobody else. Most of the esteemed 40 year old toothless crackheads on these sites describe that the school where the two taught was highly suspicious to begin with. It sounds eerily familiar to Thai police 'cleaning up prostitution' in various areas. Just a show I think, so people think somethings being done about all these crack head ogres teaching their kids!
