Tip for remembering to retrieve your card at an ATM
The security personnel don't have access to the keys. ATMs are typically managed by third party agents responsible for loading and unloading the cash. If security staff had the keys, it would make it much easier for robbers to knock him down and steal the money.
I once forgot my card in an ATM attached to a large bank. When I asked the security guard, he said there was nothing he could do. The next day, during bank hours, I went to the branch and was informed that all ATM cards left behind / struck inside the machine are sent to the bank's head office, where they are later destroyed. This process is handled by a third-party service, not the branch itself. Unfortunately, they never return the cards. The only option is to apply for a replacement.
When I use an ATM, I put my wallet in my left hand after pulling the card out. I don't put it back in my pocket unless I can see the card replaced in it's slot.
