I'm an ATM (with no FX fees) guy. I understand there are guys who have cash (dollars) and like using cash.

I was lucky enough to have a short business trip to Rio. Unfortunately I was not able to book my own accommodations and work booked me in the Radisson in Barra DaTijuca (not to be confused with just Tijuca). This is a substantial distance from Centro or even Copa. I don't really know of any termas in Barra, although a local recommended a place in Barra called Perola Negra (Black Pearl) and I believe it is a termas. I asked several questions and from our limited ability to communicate I feel confident that the information he gave was there were plenty of woman there, it wasn't a regular club, or strip club (although there is pole dance shows), and I would enjoy it. If you find yourself in Barra the street for bars and restaurants is Av. Olegrio Maciel. It's where most of the nightlife is in that area.

Total 460 (I know the total is correct) So that's $123 US. I've seen there are specials if you sign up for their news letter.

The boate is fairly small. I arrived right after 5:00 pm on a Thursday and there was about 8-10 girls,. And me. There were definitely 3 solid girls, a couple I didn't find attractive, and the rest I didn't get a good look at so I can't really comment. I went to the bar and ordered a beer. Near the bar was a very nice looking girl. Smiling at me. So I said Hello, and the ritual begins. I believe her name was Elaina. Music was a little loud and I may have got that wrong. She had long black hair, she was slender but had all the right curves. Said she was 26 yrs old. Beautiful smile, nice kisser. She speaks decent English so I preformed my field interview and all goes well except she doesn't give up the ass (not a deal breaker for me). So traffic was worse than normal and I had to get to the airport. Had to expect even more delays than usual so 1 and done. So disappointing. All the way to Rio and I only had time to get one pop in. At least It was a good one.

This tipping bullshit is out of control. They see westerners as stupid and weak and that's why they do it. People think tipping is necessary and it's not. If someone does something special then maybe it's appropriate but you can see that people now hold their hands out to westerners. He gets paid a wage to do a job, he doesn't work for free. I have spoken to people in Brazil who love ripping Americans off, they see you as weak. Stand your ground and be a man, tell them to poke it. I see Americans targeted every day on the beach or in taxi ranks outside the hotels. They massively over charge you and you just roll over and pay it. They smile at you and shake your hand but they are stealing from you and have no respect whatsoever for you. I watch them laughing behind your back once you walk away!

Re the club, had a great experience there. The manager is a lovely guy, I also wasn't asked for a tip by the cute receptionist but maybe you had a different lady. I also wasn't asked for a tip by the sauna lady but guess what, whilst I was getting changed an American or Canadian guy walked in and as soon as she heard his accent she said as he walked out " you have a tip for me ".

Unless you have 100 k on account somewhere, you aren't getting that. Retail is 10-20 percent lower.

If you know any Brazilians ask them if they a member of a "clube do cambio". These are private "grey" market groups that buy and sell. You'll get rates maybe 30% higher than the official rate.

I never heard about "clube do cambio" but an alternative could be looking for doleiros if you have a large amount of cash.
