You are right that Travel and MTR were 200 when I first came to town (sounds like around the same time as you, you maybe were a couple of years prior to my arrival). Remember that bar called Bintang Mawar in North Jakarta? I think they charged 150 k back when I first arrived in town, and I think Medika and Robinson charged 100 k. Of all the girls I have known in Jakarta, a few always remain in my mind. There was a super stunner at Bintang Mawar I liked and one at Medika as well. Maybe I just remember them so well since I was new in town, I'm not sure. Those places just having a curtain as a door was such a turn off though. Medika was way nicer the last time I went, which was pre-covid.
Even with those dirt cheap prices in North Jakarta back then, Free lance girls at Blok M were only 200 k for the whole night and that was a true girlfriend experience, so there was little point of going up north for a one hour quickie. BATS, CJS, and Tiga Puluh girls only wanted 500 k for all night (which I used to consider expensive, haha). CJs did ask for 600 at times, but 500 was pretty standard at all 3. Tiga Puluh used to be packed with honeys prior to it's renovations and was my favorite of those 3 five star hotel bars. Hard Rock Cafe in Sarinah was always such a great pickup spot back then though, and was really fun, so I normally went there instead of the 5 star hotel bars. Lots of semi-pro office or college girls looking for fun there. Dancing on top of the tables drunk near closing time. That Asia Reforms band was awesome. And if I didn't meet a girl there, I could go to JJ's or Tanamur just down the street. So much great fun to be had in those days.
I haven't read this forum in a while now, since I left town at the onset of covid. It's sad to see almost everyone only talking about the North Jakarta brothels. Is there really anything interesting to know about those places that we all already don't know? I have long had the phone numbers of many of the mamasans for those bars in my phone. It seems they still work there even years later. I do appreciate the mamasans from those establishments still having their ladies for the day and occasional promo event notices on their whatsapp status, but what else is needed to know other than that? I scrolled though those girl's photos daily during covid. Haha.

1. Malio Club: Getting here is tricky as you need to use a lift of adjacent building to get to this one. However it is best to put it in the avoid list if you are a VFM (Value for money oriented customer) This was a pure rip-off place, from waiters to the chicks that flock you, it all just felt like an elaborate scam. First of they handed me a number with a rubber wrist band (this is similar to Classic SOP), once I went in I chose a seat of my choice, then 1 chick came to me upfront explained me all the charges etc. (btw she was wearing a fishnet lingerie (comparable to a girls swimming costume), her nips etc were popping out of it and most of the ladies were scantily dressed in a similar fashion (see through lingerie, etc)) I was just trying to absorb the info. That she was giving and compare it with what I already knew about the place (thanks to this forum). She then called 4-5 other girls who also greeted me, I anyways chose her (thought since she is giving all info. In a detailed manner she may be honest in her approach) but alas that wasn't the case, she started with minimum 3 shots, which they guzzle down like water, in that she grinded me with clothes on (sort of a dry hump), promised me that for 5 shots she will kiss, provide service, let me play with the melons, but after 3 shots, started asking for 2 more (saying 5 are minimum for service), She just allowed me to touch one boob and never kissed. I saw some good looking Russian / Ukranian / CIS chicks gathered at a table, one of them looked really pretty, while heading out I asked for prices what I got was Gold: 1. 2 M, Platinum: 1. 8 M and Foreigner: 3 M+something, but given the overall attitude of the place, I won't venture to try anything here. Besides I had about 10 encounters with CIS chicks while being in Prague last year at half the price and 0 attitude as well. Now comes the billing counter. For 1 single can of beer and 5 of those 66 k each ridiculous shots it cost me 556000, Drinks Cost+entrance 15 k+40% something tax + some other tax bullshit. If anyone was to ask me I would say stay away from this place like running away from plague or something. It is a place built for robbing you off of your money.
2. Mari Enjoy Karaoke and Massage: This is on the opposite side of Grand Paragon hotel in a dingy alley. Currently construction work is going on and it blocks the view of this bar from the highway / main road.
As mentioned by others it is a small place with some Karaoke ongoing and about 10 odd girls at max seated at the entrance, good thing about the place is that you get Guiness beer here for mere 95 k (large 660 ML bottle) while Bintang same qty is 90 k, so that was an easy choice, place was a dump from toilets to rooms upstairs. I like Guiness, HoeGaarden, etc beers for their unique taste profiles. After few sips, mami asked to checkout the girls, I thought the lineup would come to the table but no, you had to go to their couches to choose them, said alright, and the ones that looked moderately attractive where busy on their phones and didn't want to be disturbed, luckily one slim small chick came from behind the cashier's section (maybe finished an earlier session etc, not sure) but I chose her and she obliged. We sat for some time and she mentioned that she would prefer sitting downstairs only while having drinks and will give me DFK over there. Although she mentioned this, she didn't actually do it for a long time, in-between I offered her Marlboro Menthols but she said she preferred other cigs, so got a packet from the cashier worth 50 k, I said to myself if she doesn't perform well then this will be her tip, I said we won't be able to do much downstairs so lets head to the room, she obliged, before going up I had to pay the bill of 500 k+some taxes this included (350 k for the girl to go upstairs+95 k for the beer and 50 k for her cig+taxes), I got the cashier to reduce the tax part to some extent. Once in the room, we waited for the showers to be free, she didn't shower, but asked me to, post shower (outside room), once I went in the room (she turned off all lights, it was pitch dark), I asked why? She said there is a glass in the middle of the door which anyone could look through (I then saw it and said ok), but I was not comfortable as I couldn't see anything, luckily I knew where my condoms etc. were in my pockets. There was an entrance fee of 50 k and a big bottle of Angkor cost me 115 k, there was more staff than people in this club, the DJ was playing some loud music (which was ok), it was a very dimly lit club and you had to turn on your mobile torch to sit right in your seat etc. But there was nothing worth noting here, just avoid. I ended up playing a game on my phone just to finish my beer.
Only 2 things were good from my today's excursions one the Coffee flavored Guiness beer and second the Helmet less ride back to my hotel at 1. 30 am from these disappointing encounters.
Day 0: A quick note on Airport / Sim / Taxi/ Hotel into the city for new adventurers
I am aware that most of the airport sim card selling terminals are expensive than what you would get locally, but I always buy a sim at the airport itself for self assurance before venturing into a new and unknown city. I had done some homework and was set on a Telekomsel 100 k plan (25 gb data / 25 mins calling option), however I didn't find this offer on any of the terminals in the airport exit area. After comparing options of various terminals, I settled down for '3' (European telecom provider), it gives very little data for 100 k I. E. 6. 7 gb data with 30 k local minutes of talktime, this plan relied on hotel wifi being good and stable and turns out that it is, but backup plan was to top-up locally if required later. For people who can use e-sims also the offers aren't that great, but my phone doesn't have this option so I didn't dive deep into this topic, but I did glance over some of the e-sim plans of Telekomsel before my travel, and there wasn't a big difference in cost for esim vs. physical sim card.
For the taxi part, I opted for Bluebird fixed cost option of 171 k, however there was an additional toll tax that the driver made me aware of, and reminded me while he paid the toll. When I handed over 200 k to him, he typed and showed me 200 k+500 of something, I showed him on calc that 171+10 k=181 k, what was another 20 k, that he wasn't able to explain but wasn't willing to give the change, I had read this about Bluebird drivers beforehand, so let this one slide as I was tired from the flight and wanted to crash in my room.
I opted to stay in Kemayoran area, which is a nice enough place that met my requirements of free Breakfast, Wifi and a Swimming Pool, close enough to the hotspots for 10 mins Gojek/Grab rides and connectivity of Gojek etc is good they don't call for asking directions or anything (as language could be a barrier on a audio call with driver), so this may be a small thing but it is still important. My hotel has a Alfamart and Indomaret located nearby, sadly no major restaurants nearby, but hotel has a restaurant (that is working ok for me so far), but I am planning to use food delivery apps to get outside food in (hotel said they are ok with it). For Vegetarians / Vegans options are really limited, and you may have to find alternate options like I am doing (For the first 2 days the only meals that I had was a fruit platter and Boiled Eggs for some form of Protein (I am eggitarian (veg+eggs)), another option is to travel to a veg restaurant but that will mean using Gojek or Grab for every meal and it can become inconvenient really fast for a laid back holiday.
Opening time for Classic, Travel, Malio, 1001, Kota Indah bars
I have read pages and pages over the last week but not 100% sure about the opening times for the most actively discussed venues such as.
1. Classic.
2. Travel.
3. Malioboro.
4. 1001.
5. Kota Indah bars such as Starmoon etc.
The reason being, I am an early to bed and early to rise guy, 5 AM - 9 PM is my day usually and I hate staying up late. I find it difficult to do even if I try.
And this completely messes up my mongering trips since most places start packing late night only. Days can get really really boring for me unless there are some that open early. Would love to hear about any such options.
I am visiting Jakarta next week. Will certainly share my reports to this amazing community.
