I am flying to Medellin beginning of June, this is my first mongering trip to Medellin / Colombia and my 20+ mongering trip in general (worldwide).

Going through this forum has made many things clear to me, I still have 2 questions that have not been answered clear enough for me.

I've been learning Spanish since a month to be able to have a very basic conversation. I've been going through TripAdvisor as well to know more about the country.

I like to Party hard at strip clubs, bars and clubs. So drinking alcohol is always putting a person into some risks and as I am traveling alone, I want to make this trip as.

Safe as possible, therefor I have the following questions:

Lodging:

I prefer Apartments to Hotels and haven't booked anything yet. I guess Poblado or Lleras should be a good choice for me safety wise. On the other hand I've been.

Reading here that some Apartment owners charge extra for visitors and ID is required. What is your experience? Where could I get a safe apartment but wouldn't.

Have restrictions getting one or more visitor?

Taxi Drivers / Chica Guides:

I've read on Matts list about some English speaking taxi Drivers such as Juan Carlos, Bucky, Jaime etc. Are the tel numbers still valid? Has someone used them recently?

But if you are determined to take the risk, check out First American Realty in Medellin (do an internet search). They have some apartments that do not have a doorman. The Poblado Suites and the Oasis del Poblado are two that I know of. They are both in Poblado, about six blocks from Parque Lleras. BTW, Parque Lleras is located in Poblado, not a separate area.

I can't recall the last time you even put up a trip report. Have you ever actually been there in recent history? I have my doubts. Internet forums are rife with people living fake lives and bullshit stories. I think you are one of them. Honestly, your anger over something as simple as a routine typo, (and yes there is a city called Columbia, Md, outside of the District of Columbia. I have a longtime friend who lives there) suggests a bit of resentment, perhaps envy because you haven't been able to do it. So, come on and put your money where your mouth is. Post a trip report. As such, I can't speak of the efficacy of the numbers, but definitely call before you go if you try. Personally I found using Uber and having the casa map downloaded on my phone worked wonders; there's a service called UberEnglish that's about the same (inexpensive) price as UberBlack in Colombia; out of roughly 20 uses I found one dud who didn't speak English and was an UberBlack driver confused with the pickup, but I spoke enough Spanish to deal anyway.

While I speak crappy-yet-intelligible Spanish, I find it easier to use UberEnglish because I can build rapport easier in English, and it's a great service; once I found that my ATM card had stopped supporting Colombian withdrawals after I was already leaving the airport (Uber charges as an American processor, so it doesn't necessarily process as a foreign transaction), and my driver went to several shopping centers with me and helped me figure out what was up with my card and how I might be able to moneygram myself in the meantime. Definitely give it a thought, especially when you find yourself going to places you've haven't been (Uber lets you type the address in and shows the driver on the GPS, and any place too difficult to find on address alone has had its identifying characteristics pointed out somewhere in the forum).

If you would read the postings you would see I live in Santa Marta, and previously lived in Cartagena. I actually have residency here, and was part of the original board members who posted on the Colombian forum as far back as the early 90's. I spend my time mostly in the coastal areas because I enjoy the heat and the ocean. I make it to Medellin approximately every other month, as I also spend quite a bit of my time in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where I also maintain a home in addition to making frequent trips to the beautiful island of Aruba. I am a regular participate in marlin, sailfish, and yellow fin tuna fishing tournaments so you can be rest assured I am always on the go to somewhere in the this world.

I also strongly suggest you checkout the thread of Urbanwildlife in Colombia as you will find all the information you need to know about the Cartagena and Santa Marta areas. I am also open to any questions you may have about Medellin, but by reading the postings you have all the information you will need to know. Things do not change that much. Because I realize you have a reading comprehension problem, I will provide you the link to it, as the forum index is probably a challenge for you to navigate.

Continue to have fun , and if I can be of help to you just let me know. I just do not like being asked questions that can be found by doing your own due diligence here on the forum.

I understand your safety concerns about drinking getting wasted and waking up next day in an empty apartment, that's why I am asking here about the best solution without being in the situation with a Paisa at midnight in front of the apartment and not getting in because she doesn't have an ID with her.

After picking up the key from the owner, you will usually never see them again until you check out. Just do some research on the places and you will be able to see if it has a doorman or if you have a private entrance.

At least it might give any newbies to the area an idea of types of maps they can create on their own. To be clear, once I got on the ground on MDE, these maps were spot on. My wingman and I literally planned our itinerary before we left and used the addresses, times and prices associated with the mapped locations and walked right up to the different places. I have stayed in three apartment buildings that had security guards / gate keepers / doormen, and none of them checked the ID of the ladies who visited me. Hopefully, someone else can chime in if they have more information about apartment building security.
