Very imformative post my friend
a couple of weeks ago i got an urge to leave airconditioning & regular sex behind and go for a little adventure.
flew down to tacloban via cebu from clark. amazed that tacloban still resembles a disaster area. so many folks still living under tarpaulins. most of the major buildings still not repaired. its a bloody disgrace. tacloban is better worked from a dating web site for mongering. no where obvious to troll but there are some cuties about.
i took a van over to san isidro along the 2 hour trip over the mountains to the other side of the island i saw scars from yolanda & presumably glenda here adn there but nothing like the destruction of tacloban. i was hauling way to much gear so they charged me double fare. i think something like php350. san isidro is a clean organised little place sitting on a large bay which is way to shallow for regular shipping but there is an inter island ferry which goes to cebu. this is the large outrigger style low draught type vessel. stayed a few days, got invited to a fiesta, met an expat american guy & his pinay wife who had been using it as a holiday home for many years. san isidro feels like an outpost on a frontier. everything here is difficult or absent. lot's and lot's of indolent brown guys standing around staring. i ask myself where are all the women? but i already know the answer, gainfully employed in cebu, manila, angeles etc. whilst i was there a lola was murdered for her money after selling her water buffalo. a guy got knifed in a fight and was '50/50' to live. its a tough gig here.
i bought myself a large fishing vessel to put to work. since it takes weeks to prepare the new nets i took the opportunity to go sailing off in it with the assistance of two local fisherman. i love the adventure of going across water in a vessel like this. went to malapascua island and spent a few days at the dive resorts there. white coral sand beach, crystal clear water & endless reefs to dive. the main resort has nice big resto with wide array of food at surprisingly fair prices but service is philippines slow. there are some bungalow type accomodations available at the same resort. i met a nice looking spanish woman who had been living there for 12 months with her kids. say's she made the mistake of marrying a filipino guy who turned out to be a womanising drunk. wo'd a thunk? how she can she afford to live in these resort bungalows for a year? they are only p600 per night but still she must have money behind her. got seriously sunburned here.
after that little adventure i put the guys to work on the boat & left for a run down to ormoc. all the way i noticed signs of typhoon damage here & there. gosh leyte is typhoon alley me thinks. ormoc is a large provincial center. there is a new robinsons development & a jollibee development both scheduled for completion by christmas so its big enough place to support hotels & retail. a few seriously down at heel expats wandering around. they avoided eye contact so i never got to hear their stories. you couls live here if you had to but i've heard horror stories about the hospitals. its not a nice looking town. kinda rep001tered & unplanned with no natural beauty.
i was planning on taking the ferry from san isidro back to cebu but it all got to hard & i ended up retracing my steps back to tacloban to fly back to civilisation.
av.
i have been trying at various sites to determine the state of repair in tacloban as i am on my way there in november. you have given me the best info i can find. uhhh. so hotels are up and running? babes, not so much?. i been contacting mass babes from tacloban on filipinocupid and it sounds like they ready to hunt. anyway, any more you can add, i would really.
appreciate. thanks.
OMG. I dint know. Please don't ban me!
Don't want to pooh pooh your book, but posting a commercial message here is a big no no with the owner of the board. I'd suggest that you move it to the Classified Ads section before you're in deep doo doo with admin. You should know better.
Sorry Mr. Sirs. I didn't know that was bad and a no no. I just figured no email addys. Sorry. Never happen again. Lonely.
Leyte today: pictures please
I went to Tacloban (and Ormoc, Beybey) before the disaster. I enjoyed myself very much, loved the scenery and hospitality. I hope Skip and AV can add a few pictures of what it looks like now. As some of us already know, parts of north Cebu were also affected. Including the islands Bantayan and Malapascua. I found one website that showed before and after pictures of one of the islands. Pictures showed a beach resort fully restored, but fewer coconut trees.
I'll try to dig up some of the pictures, but they are on another, older computer.
Has anyone been to Biliran or Camotes? I wish I had longer vacations. There are so many places I want to explore and so many pinatas I want to poke.
Skip, AV, post some pictures if you can. X.
Hotels are up and running, including some recently built ones. I was there four weeks ago and had no problem getting into a decent hotel on two days notice from Manila. I can't speak to the availability of women because I was with business associates and could not prowl, but one thing driving the market for hotels is about 5,000 expats from the UN, international NGOs and Korean and American military. Expats are pushing prices up so that locals are having trouble affording restaurants and groceries. Taxis and van rental prices are also way up. But the dynamics are such that there might easily be a market of SYTs. There always was a substantial university population in Tacloban, so maybe some of them are now in the market.
I am sure you are right P60,000+ For boat nets
I'm sure you were well intentioned & the money was very gratefully received. A set of new nets for a decent sized fishing boat will be in the vicinity of P60,000. 00+.
AV.
The man doesn't have a big boat. These are small nets.
