Its the capital of Amhara region and thus one of the main hubs for political unrest and at times violence. Hawassa is much safer and just about 5 h from Addis. Bahir dar. About 14 h or 45 min flight.

Hi Francissacas, as Darren said, there are no new Clubs, there are no new hot spots, nothing has changed which was not already written before.
And compared to Thailand, you will run around alone, never meet anybody else, I never ever saw any other monger around, just massage salons without any other customer to be seen, if I enter one of these cheap Kazachis bars, never ever met any other Caucasian, except some young local boys. You will sit alone in these places and be obliged to help yourself. ! OK Sherato or Hilton Bar might be different.
Concerning car with driver, there are signes around at travel agenies and car rent, or just google. But we use UBER or local taxi or have our own cars as residents.
And if you have been ther the last few weeks: cold rain every day at 2200 meters altitude with 8 Celcius in the moring!

On your own you will be approached by drunks, bums, pan handlers and the guys who know "some girls having a party for Haile Selassies birthday". Tip: don't go.
English speaking hookers in upmarket hotels will insist it is $300 dollars a pop. Sometimes people brag about getting them down to $80 or $100. Still about 4 or 5 times too much.
Outside of the good hotels some of the short time rooms need to be seen to be believed. Hygiene is a bottle of water and a small plastic bucket or empty paint can. Once you've done the deed, she'll throw some water over herself and then relieve herself in the bucket. (Okay, those aren't the $300 hookers, more the 500 bir street meat).
Most street girls won't take their clothes off by default, you'll have to negotiate (in Amharic) to ensure they get naked.
Most of the city is actually closed by around 9 pm as there is and't a lot of money to throw around in the evenings, except by the drunks in the red light areas apparently.
You'll see the big aid organisations in the three or four top hotels, shuttled round in UN white land cruisers, on their expense account salaries, but you may not see any other mongers, unless you bump into me or some of the other esteemed members of this forum. And we won't identify ourselves unless you know the secret handshake.
If you like a challenge, and are good with people and can talk your way out of a situation, not worried by being the only foreigner on the street, a keen negotiator, not looking for a single minute of GFE, but have an insatiable appetite for low end monger action with buxom african beauties (and the occasional moose) then maybe, just maybe its for you.

It has most definitely lowered my expectations. In truth I wasn't going particularly for are and are, more the experience of seeing a country with an unique history and will spend most of the time outside Addis. Thanks again for taking the time.

John.[/QUOTE]Thanks John. Not sure anywhere has the buzz of Bangkok and as you can imagine I am not starved for female fun. There are a number of African girls working here usually with their pimps but while they are cheap there is limited interest.
I travel a lot but this is my first Sub Saharan trip and I look forward to a new experience hopefully without meeting any tapeworms.
Will post my experiences and who knows maybe first time lucky will apply.

I couldn't bring myself to click on the link in case it had pictures. Tapeworm is common in Ethiopia, to be fair more in the rural areas, but every Chemist in Addis has treatment, posters, warnings etc, which sort of conveys some kind of message about its prevalence.
Stick to a well cooked burger is Sishu's and you'll be fine. That could be a restaurant tip there for a hungry nomad.
When eating tradtional ask for your kitfo to be "lebleb" or slightly cooked. I've eaten all sorts of stuff over the last half dozen trips and never contracted anything serious. Except a micro brewery outside Edna Mall called Bole Microbrewery (not the Beer Garden) gave me the squitters for a couple of days. And last time badly washed traditional coffee cups did same thing in the "Intercontinental" in Kasanchi's, but for a lesser period.
Still if you actually want to see a different culture, go for it, as it is genuinely different, and genuinely untouched. Right now, I'd take advice about going outside Addis as a ferengi. I'm just not sure travel to Lalibela, Gondar etc is behaving normally. Some of the Habesher posters will be able to give you up to date advice.

I am staying at hotel nearby the embassy on Tanzania, on the airport side of Cameroon st. The only MS that I found real (Google map sent me nowhere looking for other ones) was Purple massage and Morocco, see below.

Let me try to describe the MPs I have visited before.
Mack, probably the best MP interms of the selection of the girls, is located in the side road in front of sapphire Hotel. Just cross the street after standing at the main gate of the hotel and then walk a few hundred meters inside the narrow side street paved with cobble stone.
And there are at least two Hani MPs. Hani is a very common name in Ethiopia. The first one is found just behind the millennium hall close to purple MP.
The other one is found 'around' millennium hall. When you go down the EDNA mall roundabout, you would come across the Friendship International hotel. And you need to walk a few meters and then you would see a board showing you the direction which is on the right.
Grace is almost next to sapphire. Just walk a few meter down to ENDA mall. You would see grace on the left.

When I googled for Ethiopian massage, their website popped up full of semi naked girls. Then, I visited the place and the price of the massage was 600 Br. And they let you pick a girl from the line up. However, I went with an ugly and stupid girl that jumped me. My Bad. In Retrospect, the asking price for massage is three times the standard price. I presume extras would also be more expensive including the out call you mentioned. BTW, the selection of the girls is poor.
