Good advise, but better to be careful though.
I once did just that, looked into a open house door and saw 3 cuties sitting on plastic chairs looking bored. I went over to the man inside and took out $5 and pointed to one of the ladies sitting. He started shouting at me in Cambo (didn't understand him fully but did hear what I thought to be "daughter) he picked up a broom and chased me out. I didn't stay to see what he wanted to with the broom--ha ha

I think you are in the wrong side of TK. I don't live in PP so don't really know what are the boundaries of the TK area. From what you posted, 272-592 st',
this area is way off in the west. I once quickly rode thru here as it didnt seem like a safe place so didnt linger too long to investigate area. Didnt see much there of interest. I think the houses of interest are further east and not the western side of the lake. Again, I could be wrong as I have not truly spent time wandering around the TK areas west of Boeung kak.

I must have drove quickly past that alley street and didn't even see it. About how far was this alley from the French embassy?

What Wendella describe about shacks with tin roofs etc is correct. Real run down places where you expect the roof to cave in while you're inside. But for veterans of Snooky chickenfarms or KK farms it's very similar scene . Definitely no frills and no hygiene, not for everyone but I always enjoy the challenge and the atmosphere (or lack of it).

As for the side street, hard to remember -- it seemed to be somewhere in the middle of the stretch. Cement houses down there, on both sides of the lane, not shacks. Shacks line the main road. You're probably better off PM'ing some of the guys who are physically in PP now, who will know current status better, and know specifics that I'm sorry I'm just vague on -- it was about 3-4 yrs ago I last looked there, and I remember thinking 'OK, no need to ever come back here again'. The silence here makes me wonder if the boys here in PP aren't keen on talking about it publicly.

The alley way that you are reffering to I think is the other end of the Back Packer area road. ie if you went right rather than left at the mosqe. This continues out onto the road which is the TK main road 70,273 (changes name at the railway line).

Didn't realize the the riverside street was also consider TK district. I often thought it was abit pass the B.K lake that was consider TK territory,but nice to know.
So according to your post, by riverside rd you mean= Sisowath Quay right? I kinda remember sitting on a mototaxi from St 136 and going up Siso.Quay toward the Jap bridge and only remember the street were mainly commerical/ manufacture/ maintenance shop area. So about where along the river will I start seeing these houses.(between which streets)
Also, can you advise me within a small area of TK as I don't really want to walk around too much, where are the greatest concentration of houses with gals if I needed to make a quickey daily visit for "relief" when I'm there.

You are correct the riverside road is Sisowath Quay and its not really TK but only one block from it so what the hell. And yes it is as you describe commercial/manufacture/ manufacture shop area. If you travel from Wat Phnom area towards the Jap bridge you will see them. there is about one every block in this area about 5 blocks.

There is not a great concentration of houses in TK again they are spread out along both sides of the road mainly the right hand side heading towards the radio tower. Good luck

PS they are open from about 10am until about 10pm but dont go at night on your own or on a small bike if you have one, you may loose it.

Oh did I forget to mention to stray yourself with DEET before entering the shacks as I had fond memories of big ass mosquitos in some of them. And its a pain in the ass--I mean itch in the ass when you are unprepared.

I think you could be right about why some locals maybe silent on TK . As Sharka may have suggested, NGO could be lurking even on our blessed ISG site.

Hmm, not sure about this one as the last time I was in PP I had rented a motobike to bum around in . Perhaps someone currently living there for awhile (as they have the most experience with actual local prices and not tourist rip-off prices) can answer this one.

I honestly can't remember if that side lane is off of St 70 or St 273. It's near where they meet. If you look at the map you can see that St 70 turns into St 273. If the official border of the neighborhood of Tuol Kok ends before street 70, but the places they're after (the brothels) are commonly known as "Tuol Kok" and they happen to be on St. 70 and therefore actually outside the neighborhood of that name, well, these guys aren't interested in ending up in the neighborhood officially known as Tuok Kok if it isn't where the girls are. All this confusion seems to be that the NEIGHBORHOOD is mainly west of the lake, the majority of it, but this place with the girls known by that same name isn't west, but north of it. Remember, the original request was to find the girls. It's not helpful to keep directing people to head toward the neighborhood if that's not where the girls are.

It's just that 'Toul Kok' seems to have become the catch-all term for any brothel area in the north or west of PP. Often, for example, it's used to refer to the brothels around Stung Meanchey Bridge (which are apparently back in operation), way down on the far SW side of town. So when somebody ask 'Is Sisowath Quay in Toul Kok', the answer is, no, not even close, though yes, there are some brothels up off the northern stretch of it. I would call that area Russey Keo, but then I'm not a brothel guy so I don't know if anyone else does.

Anybody who says some place down in the SW is Tuol Kok is just hopelessly confused. That area w girls in shacks etc on St 70/St 273 was referred to a lot as Tuol Kok/Kork since I started looking at this site (and others) way back in about 2000. Maybe those guys way back then were wrong and the name just stuck. Doesn't matter much either way.

As long as I'm whingeing, the latest idiocy is the ban on seating in front of the bars and restaurants along Sisowath. So of course now the sidewalks are just filled with double- and triple-parked RCAF SUVs. Remember when the riverfront was actually pleasant?

It's things like these, along with the decline in simple slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am venues, that for me make PP rather less appealing than it was ten or even five years ago. But I still love the bars and the restaurants and whole expat scene, which I still find to be the friendliest in SE Asia. And there are some superb women available for anyone willing to put in a bit of time and money. So I guess I can still put up with the irritations.
