The demise of fat John from the del rey in laquito makes my day.
Good mongering to all!,
Can anyone tell me the better places to stay in CTG? Will be making my first trip there later this month. Would like to stay in an area that is relatively safe, where there are a good amount of none pro and good looking females and finally where there is a good amount of activity and things to do. Does anyone have any advice? Right now I have a place reserved in Laguito. Are there other areas better?
What no Tony Lama Butch? I guess his cowboy boots wouldn't go too well with the sand huh?
Sorry if this info is already known by many, But I Hadn't seen it mentioned for a while, but I've been told by Big J___ In CR last month, and he sold his property in El Laguito, and has given up on any plans there!
Many fearfull may relax.
Later, or Pronto??
I have never met the guy, but I heard he was buying up a few properties in Lguito.
Do you have any idea why he left?
Hunter
Aw shit Beavis, you beat me to the punch.
He never even arrived and I already miss him. It's really too bad it didn't happen. A few loudmouths splattered on the sidewalk would have moved the time backwards in CTG.
but I heard he was buying up a few properties in Lguito.
Hunter
John took me out to lunch at a fancy restaurant near the marina. We had some good steaks and beers. He had a driver and a large pickup truck with large cab. John told me he owned the block in Laguito where the art museum / gallery was, a block or two from LDV. He even complained that the art gallery was behind in their rent and he was going to evict them.
He talked about buying some condos there too. Seems he was making an awful lot of money from the Del Rey in Costa Rica and needed a place to stash it.

Can anyone tell me the better places to stay in Cartagena?
Laguito will suit you. It's a safe part of town.

The answer depends on who you are - here are some reports from a guy in his 20's, a guy in his '30's' and a guy in his 50's. They all have different backgrounds and had different experiences.
20s & 30s
Atlantas Finest's posts are a couple of years old, but are some of the best written on the scene from a young guy who mixed pro and non-pro in Cartagena. He is in his twenties, knows Spanish and so forth - he has almost everything a guy needs to work the beachs of Bocogrande and Laguito. Here are his reports:

30s & 40s
Black Page is a stand-up guy for posting the report below. He's got 10 years on Atlanta's Finest, but still worked the beaches. But I believe there's a cautionary tale here. It does not make sense to me that a person would give 170.000 to a "non-pro" for a two-hour session off the beach. I have sat on the beach and watched girls go from being "non-pro" to being "pro" with a shift of the eye. I remember a conversation with a pro I met last year in LDV. She had grown attached to me. She lamented "I wish we had just met on the beach, everthing would be different." At any rate, BP's beach girl got a lot of money and BP walked away very content, so it was a happy ending for all involved:

40s & 50s & up
If you are older, Erudite44's post might help. He's flirting with girls in the markets of the old city. By far, I get the most hungry eyes from girls who clearly have regular jobs in the shops of the old city:

What kind of things are there to do in Cartagena?
This is a big question and depends on who you are and what sort of things you enjoy.
Cartagena is a classic Spanish colonial city. If you spring for a guide book it should give you a complete idea of the standard tourist venues.
Personally, it's a fantastic location for kiteboarding between January and March.

What should I pay her?
This is one of the most discussed topics on the thread. Some people have strong opinions about it. In March 2007 there was a discussion comparing prices in Medellin against prices in Cartagena. Here's one of the posts.

Is Cartagena in decline as a whoring destination?
Apparently. The first report of Cartagena going down hill was in May 2003.

...although it may have been on the way down from 1994.

Does anyone know when Holy Week starts in Colombia? Will everything be closed? Is this a bad time to go?
Holy week starts on Palm Sunday. There are two official holidays between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. The date for Easter Sunday changes from year to year, it is the first Sunday, after the first full moon of spring. In 2008, Easter will be March 23. In 2009, Easter will be April 12.

Rumor was there was a restriction on how high he could build from his lot in Laguito, but I do not know. It seems this sort of thing would have been understood ahead of buying the land.
I hope this means the Perro Hawaino stand is coming back. I think that got nuked when that lot was sold.

Later, or Pronto??
Glad to hear that !My friend talked to his partner Greg R. and he basicaly said the same thing, no Del Rey 2 in Ctg.
What a shame? No Blue Marlin Bar T - shirts from Colombia.
and no more texans on hollywood beach in speedos. tony the tout must be in mourning, for the del rey in ctg, was his ticket to paradise. farc may not be happy either, for they cannot grab the rich texan with the ostrich boots and rolexes, shit....... that might have been fun to watch.....................
His plans of converting the silver tooth to a gold one have dissipated along with his order of Miller Lite beer.
Jelly Donut,
Thanks for the info. That helps alot. I definately have a better idea how I will probably be fitting in. Looking forward to my trip. I will try to follow in Altanta's Finest foot steps. I don't know, he has a few years on me, but I got the looks and the language and they tend to think I am still in my mid twenties. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Excellent. Have fun, don't fall in love.
Let us know how things go.
