Have prices in Bangkok gone up significantly in the last few years?

I notice prices for food, taxis, and hotel rooms are basically exactly the same as they were during my first trip in 2007. I've been been in 2008 and 2010.

But on this trip it seems like the girls are expecting a lot more. And skimming through reports here it seems like a lot of guys are paying a lot more.

Comparing '07 prices to '12. I spent a night in the same exact hotel that I checked in to on Soi Nana and am paying the same fee for the room. Menu prices in the restaurant downstairs are about the same unless my memory is off (about 2x-3x what you would pay for the exact same food on any other street).

But. In 2007 I remember bar-fining a girl for 500 and being told that if I wanted to give her anything above that it was my choice, and she stayed with me all night and seemed happy to get 1000. I bar fined a couple other girls that trip and paid them 500-1500 depending. Many of them were happy to stay with me all night and even come back the next day for free even if I was paying them at the low end of that range.

But. Now in 2012 every bar I've gone into in Bangkok the girls are often asking for 2000+ just for short time. Even some that aren't that good-looking. I didn't want to pay the 500 barfine and 2000 extra this one very plain girl was asking for short time earlier today and she started calling me Cheap Charlie and got all the other girls at the table to get up and leave.

I did get away with paying this one *extremely* cute young thing I found in Nana Plaza 1400 (plus 500 bar fine) for short time just tonight. I would have been happy paying her more if she had done more of the things I wanted. She was adorable.

Prices for girls on the street seem about the same. In 2007 I picked up girls on the street and paid them between 1000 and 1500 for short time. Today a girl on Soi 4 said she would go with me for 1200.

This year I went to Pattaya for the first time. Didn't really like it there, seems like EVERY woman I met there was a prostitute. I like to dabble in regular girls, too. Seems like in Thailand it's actually easier and cheaper to go for them sometimes. But prices were lower generally speaking. Girls along Beach road could be had for 500-700 baht for short time or even all night if you picked them up late. Bar fines vary a lot in Pattaya, from 200 some places up to 1000+ other places. On Walking Street some of the top shelf girls cost 2000-3000 on up to 5000 for all night if you want one of the girls that does the special performances. There was one girl at the AngelWitch Gail- absolute stunner- would have loved to take her home for 3000 baht but some Turkish douchebag got to her a minute before I did and kept her away from work for the next 3 days.

I went to one tiny bar very far away from Walking Street actually near Jomtien. I figured they would be cheaper. Most of the girls in that place were butt ugly. But they actually were much more expensive I was surprised. The only doable girls in there weren't going home with customers, either.

I know prices vary a lot even in the same city and even on the same street, but is the going rate for short time now really 2000? And long time is, what? 3000? 4000? So pricey especially couple with the stronger baht.

Met fellow travelers and expats who apart from the odd grump felt as I do that truly there is no place quite like Bangkok. It's not just the availability of beautiful women, it's the laughter the energy the amazing food and although it sounds odd it's also the spirituality of the Thai people. One practice I found enchanting was how the girls would stop and pray in front of the image of Buddha on their way to work. Nun told me they were usually praying for a customer.

I left a more seasoned "man of the world" and look forward to returning.

Alternately, with freelancers it is often post payment, paying after the deed, and 1000 baht ST is a common price, so there are other options to losing all your money and much less lost if it turns out that way.

If so, can you pinpoint it for me. The only info I can get is that it is across from the Landmark Hotel, between Soi 5 & 7.
