Don't be a dumbass. Indonesia airports and Jakarta malls do not have 97 easy to transfer money shops like Pattaya! I did not exchange my USD while in Jakarta because they usually want your original passport to do any transactions and I assumed an airport kiosk money changer would be open.

1) I usually use Grab, but one time, I landed in Jakarta and the Grab App required that I authentic my form of payment, and the software glitched up. My credit card never asked for verification. So because Grab wanted to authenticate, and my credit card company refused to send me a code, I couldn't get the Grab App working. I was able to book, but I had to change my form of payment from credit card to CASH. Glad I had a few loose red bills on me.

2) In case Grab fails completely, at least I have enough loose red bills on me for a Bluebird to the hotel.

3) I'd love to start hitting the clubs right away like the day / night I land. Sometimes, the 1. 5 M limit at the really convenient ATM's just won't do. Glad I have a few extra red bills on me.

4) In case I land in Jakarta and my global bank card is glitched up. Code not working, insufficient balance, etc. Whatever can go wrong does go wrong. Glad I have a few loose red bills on me.

I start pacing my spending and conversions about 5 days before leaving so I don't end up with leaving Indo with 5 M IDR unspent, but it's not a huge deal if I did. I wouldn't have taken the 70% hit, kept the IDR, and started planning my next trip back to Indonesia while waiting at the airport.
