Wrong!
California law allows marijuana, but federal law still treats it like a serious crime. I suggest you let this little experiment wait until you have about ten years available for prison time!
Marijuana has been not a felony crime federally since the Carter Administration, it is unlawful to have anything less than an ounce, hardly a prison offense.
Hell one time I got sent to secondary for an apple. Yes an apple. Apparently cbp has a list of fruits and vegetables that you can't bring across the border and apples are on that list. I told the cbp cop dude I bought this apple in San Diego as I do most of my grocery shopping on the US side. But they didn't care and I got sent to secondary and my apple was confiscated.

I had an apple in my backpack coming from a hotel in Ensenada and they threatened to take away my Global Entry card. Yikes. Over a stupid apple.
G.

Well think of it in the viewpoint of the CBP. What stands out as odd?
Visitor's reason for foreign travel:
Visitor 1 - pussie.
Visitor 2 - pussie.
Visitor 3 - pussie.
Visitor 4 - apple.
Visitor 5 - pussie.
This may come as a surprise to those who have never traveled abroad, save for Mexico. Almost all fruits, vegetables, plants and seeds are prohibited from being brought back into the country. Every flight, before it lands in the USA, plays a PSA to that effect. In fact, when I got my SENTRI years ago, the CBP guy made a point of telling me I could bring back no fruit. I found out you couldn't bring back any pork products once when I had some Costco BBQ ribs in the trunk. The guys confiscated them and probably had a nice dinner. I think that particular rule has since been modified to "small amounts for personal consumption."
So, it really isn't odd that one gets sent to secondary if one has fruits or vegetables on ones person.

The Trolley Sucks
I usually ride the trolley from SD Union Station to Tijuana. It seems like it is getting worse every time I ride. Cars stink and half the time there is piss all over the seats. Nothing against the homeless, but half of them ride the trolley and stink it up like Hell. I have been panhandled numerous times. Today, some ahole walks onto the Trolley and sits right in front of me. He proceeds to light up and smoke a meth pipe. I told him, what the Hell do you think you are doing smoking that crap her with others on the trolley not saying anything? He told me to eff off and walked off. I hardly ever see any security or anything the last ten times I have ridden the trolley.

La Cueva del Peludo
Well looks like they had a shooting in that bar on Sunday. So it's closed for now.

Crossing to San Ysidro only certain fruits are prohibited, not all. I think bananas and oranges are permitted. And I still cross with apples in my lunch, I just don't declare them anymore since technically they're not prohibited since they were bought in an American grocery store. If they ever try to send me to secondary for an apple again I'll just start eating it right in front of the cop and it will be gone before I even get to secondary.

The route you take, and most take, airport, or gaslamp down to Tijuana is the best, most civilized part of the trolley. Go north of old Town, you can often find yourself on the trolley car, with 1 other person, 8 homeless. The busses? Even worse. Especially old Town to ocean beach. Its like a homeless getaway. Trolly security was reduced by 90% due to covid. There's shootings at the stations quite often.

I think bananas are legal. If you had a receipt showing place of your apples' origin you could bring them back with little hassle. You weren't the only poster to ***** about getting jacked up when bringing back fruit. So, maybe they slept through the PSA.

Upload a video like that to YouTube and spread it all over the internet to expose the lack of security on the trolley. I had to pay over $100 fine for getting caught riding without a ticket but these drug addicts smoke meth right out in the open with no fear of punishment or police response. Trolley cops aren't doing their job.

I did have to break up a fight on a trolley a couple of years ago though. A guy just started attacking this dude out of nowhere. We held him down until the police came at the next stop. I always said if I was homeless then you would find me in San Diego or Miami.

Possession vs Smuggling
Marijuana has been not a felony crime federally since the Carter Administration, it is unlawful to have anything less than an ounce, hardly a prison offense.
IIRC, the laws against possession are one thing, and the laws against bringing it into the country are another.

When in doubt, declare it. If they find it and you didn't declare it, you'll loose your card. If you declare it they will just take it off you.
