I wrote this earlier in this thread; the gift giving is an established practice in China and elsewhere in Asia, as I understand. The Chinese meeting places like Tantan and MOMO have a large amount of business from tips and gift giving. In Asia, people hate paying for subscriptions and sites make more of their money from gifts and tips.

SA of course is charging a fucking boatload monthly for subscription; no site in Asia charges $90 a month and few men anywhere in the world would pay such amounts. You want to be a bit ambiguous and test the waters without either side embarrassing themselves. NYC is a hard place since everything is expensive, but what is popular now are rooftop bars. Generally, these are places with a bit of privacy at night. They are getting more common in other cities and may have some loud music which also helps.
