As you guys might have noticed, taxis are charging $12 to the motels and had to go few motels to get a room now a days over the weekends. Ended up paying more than $35 to taxi few times recently. And $10 for parking. Spending $50 for logistics is kind of expense if you visit every week.
I am thinking to drive as my vehicle was already registered in Sentri. Is insurance must buy, if so, any ideas what insurance is better? Is it really that dangerous? Any tips and tricks to keep in mind while driving in Tijuana?
My main concern all these days was .. how safe is it to drive back to US after drinking ... Yes, i do drink much some times... :-(
Thank You!!
If you have SENTRI, Baja Bound insurance offers a special rate for 6 or 12 months. I think I paid around 300 last time to re-up for the year. Good deal when you consider it's like $45-$50 for a few days by the border.
I don't think it's any more dangerous than driving in USA. You are playing with fire by drinking and driving. I limit myself to two beers if I am driving back across the border.

Driving in Tijuana is an adventure. Rules of the road is more like suggested rather than mandatory. So look around at intersections or one day someone will run a red light and T-bone your car and kill you. Stop signs are suggestions to slow down and taxi drivers honk at me for making an actual stop, unless you see a cop, then definitely stop. Potholes are killers. Some are so deep that they will pop your tires. I popped 2 new tires in the first 3 weeks of driving in Tijuana. Curbs are angled differently and very high and will scrape your car as you make a right turn. The Turnabouts are crazy scary and is a game of chicken, and use instead of stop lights. Pedestrians have a right of way and many will walk right in the middle of the road, traffic be damned.
Drivers can be real assholes and do not mind scrapping their shitty car against your car. Did I mention it is a game of chicken? The locals do not use blinkers. They tend to dive head first into your lane. You'll know what I mean. Cops specifically target drivers that they think are drunk, particular exiting the Zona Norte. Prepare to get fucked by cops waiting for you, and hoping you are drunk so that you can help pay their rent. They know all of the exits out of the Zona Norte and you are going to be BFF with some if you drink and drive.
Personally, I don't think I save any money since I've driven to the Zona Norte. The reason I did was that I dated a girl over in Otay, then another that lived in Las Playas. So I needed to learn to drive in Tijuana.
I recommend getting a 1 day insurance, then driving over Sunday to see if you are okay. You do not want to drive there the first time Saturday night and play road warrior with taxis and cops. On the other hand, Mexican cops will help you drop the habit of driving and drinking real fast. I guarantee it.

Thank You!!
Have you considered Uber as a cheaper alternative to taxis? I only use Uber in Tijuana which is much, much cheaper than taxis and I think is less riskier than chancing taking your car into Mexico. If I knew Spanish I'd be more comfortable taking my car across the border but I don't so...
IMO, drinking and driving in TJ and leaving yourself subject to Mexican laws (as well as bribe attempts by Mexican policia) is asinine but do you. I guess the "good" thing about getting caught drinking and driving in TJ is you probably stand a much better chance getting off if you're willing to pay the bribe...

I currently live in Tijuana and even before the move, I thought driving was the best option. Insurance is a must. Luckily my US insurance covers up to 20 miles south of the border. Try looking into your current provider to see if that's an option. Otherwise, you can purchase by-the-day or find good deals for longer term as well.
Driving in Tijuana is like other 3rd world cities. You have to be a good defensive driver. I've seen some crazy shit and gnarly accidents. Getting busted drinking and driving is not a good thing. Cops do set up check points on rápida and other spots coming out of Centro and Norte. If you plan to drink, don't bother driving.
And forget the taxis. It's a total rip off. Uber's from the border to Norte runs between $3-$5 depending on time of day and $4-$6 to the nearest motels. Other rideshare apps like DiDi are even cheaper and have a cash option.

Drinking and driving is never a good idea especially when you're going to have to pass through the border. A cab is cheaper than a DUI.

AAA GNP Mexico Insurance
GNP Mexico insurance costs about $110 a year liability bought through AAA web site.
GNP is allegedly a major insurance company in Mexico, even though nobody answers the 800 tel #. I have never had to file a claim so don't know their service, but you can always sue AAA. You can cancel the policy and get refund for days not used.
If you get in minor fender benders, you can always take the cars to Ruben Carillo body shop on Calle 3 corner Negrete. He speaks Ingles, makes good deals and can fix most body damages with good matching paint the same day for less than $200. Damaged fender, bumper, hood, head light quoted $1,200 labor in LA costed $150 at Carillo. Workmanship, quality and paint were good, matched original paint. Wait 2 weeks for the paint to harden and bring the car back for them to rub and shine it. They also replace or install parts cheap. Ask him for a big invoice so you can sue the insurance companies.
Third world countries have unique problems but also have appropriate solutions.

I use AAA's partner, GNP Mexico Insurance, and was pleased with their claim service. If you visit every week, get an annual policy. And drive VERY defensively.
As far as drunk driving goes, it's no problem in Mexico. Just have $500 USD for the bribe.
It's insane to me that some mongers pay to spend days at a time roleplaying boyfriend-girlfriend. It's even more insane how much they pay, how much crazy shit they put up with having real arguments in their fake relationship, and the kind of lies they believe. The funny thing is you'll never hear these losers be honest about how much energy, time and money they've really invested in putas because even after they've been played they try to convince themselves some part of it was real.
Speak for yourself. In many of my travels I have latched onto a girl, or perhaps vice versa, and had a very good time exploring parts of the city and country that most tourists don't get to see.
Therapists actually help you work through your problems. Putas just pretend to care.
Comedians are professional entertainers, but I have never left a comedy show feeling more "connected" with a comedian. Even if I did, I'd still realize putas just seem funny because they're fine as hell, otherwise they'd be professional comedians.
No, it is not okay or normal to date gold diggers, otherwise there wouldn't be dozens of articles online warning pathetic, susceptible men of the red flags to watch for when dating one.
The fact you don't understand these things indicate you don't don't know what healthy relationships look like, so your insistence that you're getting meaningful conversation or true emotional connection from putas is exactly the kind of thing that some of us find sad..
Not saying Putas replace these other people, but just saying they have more value than is given and I don't look at what they give as "sad" to those who spend time with them.
Did you get a chance to watch the video clip. Basically it's a sex worker sharing insights into what they do is "more" than just sex. And she is right.
I have had long term girlfriends over the years and I think they were healthy but it's just not the type of relationship I am looking for right now. I really enjoy being on my own and being able to pop down to Tijuana at times and have some superficial relationships where at times we can't even understand each other's language.
Also if I want meaningful conversations I have friends and family for that. Yes snuggling with a Puta isn't as nice as with an actual girl friend who cares for you so they will never replace that but still special talents they have I don't consider sad.
When I pay a massage therapist $100 for an hour I don't consider what she gives me to be "sad". Yes, if your looking to the Puta to give you meaningful attachments and emotional connections. Your probably looking up the wrong tree!

They definitely left out the monger parts I bet. 😂
Nothing like waking up to a BBBJ and fresh fruit or food they made or ordered. They genuinely seemed more pissed off about people ripping me off than I was. I could hear the rage even though I didnt understand anything they said to their fellow countryman. A dollar to them is worth more than to me, it is just a fiat currency, monopoly at this point.
