And I often look at people in Europe and say how nice it must be to get on a euro rail and be in a different country in a matter of hours. How nice it must be to live on the East Coast and fly so easily to other parts of the world. Why are we so isolated here? Why is it so much harder to have those experiences.

But you know what. As a southern Californian I can drive to Tijuana in the morning. I can drink beer and have 5 star meals for under 50 bucks. I can buy cheap viagra and bang 3 girls in a day and pay them each less than I pay for groceries. I can stay in a 4 star hotel for 100 bucks. I can waltz across the border with global entry. I can be home a few hours later and still have a full day.

That's worth being thankful for. I need to appreciate the gift that is living so close to a cheap foreign country. Even if it gets old, most of the US can't do this.

When I asked my waiter about it he said they use to have another part of the club they let people smoke in but at some point just started allowing it in Miami.

These prices are less than half what you'the pay a few miles north.

If you take a 2 weeks vacation Tijuana will break the bank specially compared to other southern destinations. When I go to Tijuana once every month, each time for 5 days, I spend about $1000. That is $12,000 per year.

However, Tijuana has become quite a bit more expensive in relation to their economy and the average earnings of the locals. Dinner for two at a nice joint might only be around $100, including wine, but that's still a LOT of money in Tijuana. And it's worse than it was just a few years ago. Shoot, even the tacos are running about $2 each now. $100/ night for a hotel is quite pricey compared to a few years ago, too. I note that Grand used to be at the upper end of the pricing structure. But it seems everybody else has raised their prices, as a percentage, more than has Grand. As you said, about $100/ night is now the average, and that's quite a bit higher than 3 or 4 years ago.

So, Tijuana is still cheaper than CA, but that's a really low bar. Prices in Tijuana have gone up considerably.

I can still get a 5 star dinner with all the trimmings in Tijuana for under 75 bucks a head and that's a meal that would easily be 200 dollars in LA.

I'd love to go to Vietnam but my point here was to appreciate that we have this amazing resource just driving distance from those of us in CA. If they closed the border tomorrow or started requiring advance visas in response to trump I'd honestly feel a genuine sense of loss. I'm just acknowledging this. That it's a gift to have relatively cheap luxury and poontang within such a close drive it can be done on the regular.
