Jakarta - Hotels

The flavor of the day is Holiday Inn and Suites Gajah Mada near Glodok Chinatown. You can see all the guys with their blue and white ISG shirts in the breakfast buffet and Citywalk.

If by mall you mean Citywalk you're better off staying at Ibis Styles beside Gajah Mada Plaza or Harris Vertu Harmoni attached to HXC. Citywalk barely keeps AC running. I will say I thought the fried chicken at Chigo x Flip Burger in Citywalk wasn't half bad.

The Rooms with Kitchenette are too expensive.

You might as well stay at the Ascot or any other Hotel which offers a Kitchenette with a normal size fridge.

I'm torn between HI or try Airbnb. Most suitable ones I find are in west Jakarta near Central Park Mall which puts me in 30-40 min grab ride to Pasar Baru where is HI would be 10-15 min.

Yeah. Ascot or Airbnb which could be a hit or miss depending on the owner. I don't think I want to pay HI double the amount just to have a kitchenette room.

What do people think of the Grand Orchardz Hotel Kemayoran?

I may stay here in the near future. I will share what I know:

+ Hotel looks good from the outside.
+ This Hotel is near the Train tracks. If you get a Room facing the tracks, you *may* hear the train.
+ The Staff and Service is good. The Breakfast is more Indonesian than Western or Continental.
+ Kelapa Gading and Mall of Indonesia (MOI) are closer from this Hotel.
+ Hotel is good value for money. Much cheaper than Grand Mercure.

Most importantly, there is a in house spa / massage place for rainy days. Don't expect stunners though!

As in most cities in Asia Jakarta has a wide range of hotel options for different budgets, I'm just wondering what people would suggest I'm terms of the upper side of that range?

If e. G. 150-200 $ per night would not be an issue, what are currently the best options?

I like the Orient Hotel (even though 4. 5* "only") in terms of direct access to Basque / Cafe Cali, however the rooms appear to be on the smaller side.

I know the Mandarin Oriental from one of the previous stays and really liked it (nice view from the room as well).

Both hotels are also still fairly central, so possible to travel either north or south.

Any other personal preferences from others?

I have RTFF (last 15 pages).

Every morning at breakfast you will see the ISG members in their official shirts seated at the prime tables, just mention your ISG user name when checking in and youll get your up to date Jakarta map and pricelist.

Or, more seriously, yes it seems to be, and many members have posted saying they stayed there, including me. The lobby is large, and there is a door at the opposite side to the reception desks close to the lifts. I walked in there last year with my new friend in tow, 29 years my junior and wearing a noticably shorter dress that all the other guests. And no one bothered us or raised an eyebrow.

The other guests at breakfast, very few europeans, all seemed very conservative so I was glad my friend left early and didn't accompany me to breakfast. It would have been interesting to see how people reacted.

Ritz Carlton, JW Marriott, Grand Hyatt, Shangrila (BATS), ASCOT apartment suites. All are within central and falls within the price range you are looking for.

P.S. - Hotel breakfast is always fun. You get to see the hotel guest and his younger and naughty lady. Usually advertised by her clothes. Seen this many times in Thailand and Cambodia!

+ If you book a Room for 2, you will pay more.
+ The breakfast is only available if you book with the HIGHER room rate.

The Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk is nearby on the opposite side of the road. It is walking distance to Loksari and Hotel Travel. This is a smaller Hotel but good value. Very popular with the Indonesian middle class.

If you have to pay for Breakfast at the Holiday Inn, the Santika will be the cheaper option.

Yes, The lobby is huge, with a glass door behind the reception that connects to a mini mall in the same building. The elevators to the room are on the other side totally hidden from the reception but there's a concierge right near the lifts with a guy or two sitting there all the time, so sneaking in a girl might be difficult.

However, I have seen guests with local women near the elevators while collecting Grab Food, so it might be possible. Hopefully, more experienced members can provide additional information.
