Thanks for insight to your M. O. You are right about getting fixated. Sometimes, like in the example I gave from my date yesterday, I was like WOW! She is so fucking hot and I get hooked. Only a few times, even with new chicas, have I discussed what amount I will give them. Most of the time I tell them I will pay the taxi when they arrive. Just got back from the Mansion. It is the same as usual there. I did notice there is this gross super pale white chick with glasses there that's kinda fat and she was there EVERY NIGHT. But, if you are on the fence about making your first visit to MDE maybe this information may be helpful in making up your mind. If not. Too bad. It is what it is. Normally I look forward to spending a week in the Fall in St. Martin where I know I really can enjoy my visits to the casas to savor the chicas as well as the many other diversions that are available on the island. For me, a visit to SXM is just so comfortable. I know the locations where I can always find someone to entertain me and where and what to do with my downtime. It's just a fun, easy place to go to.

This year however, before I get too old, I decided to take the plunge and head to Colombia to see firsthand what things were like in the "homeland". I've read so much here on ISG about Medellin, the chicas, the casas, prices, where to stay, etc. I would like to thank all that contributed their experiences. The information was invaluable. It helped made the decision to go a lot easier. Well easier, but still I was a little apprehensive!

Also encouraging me to go too was a friend that I've spent time with on a couple of visits to SXM and her offer to be my live-in tour guide for part of my trip. That pushed me over the edge. Why not? Even though I really rated the chances of her really showing up at maybe 75/25%. It was all worth a try so off to Colombia.

My day on the West Coast started really early in the morning and I didn't arrive in MDE until fairly late at night. For this reason, plus being a first timer, I opted to stay at the Mansion for the first couple of days. Their taxi driver they use was waiting for me upon my arrival and we went direct to the M. This was easy. Everything was going smoothly. Too smoothly?

After a much needed shower and a quick beer in the room to relax a bit it was time to venture down to La Cueva. My first impression, after successfully negotiating the stairs, was that it was kind of quiet. I was greeted by the only guy at the bar who said this was going to be my lucky day. The odds were about 25:1 in my favor. Lots of girls but unlike SXM they seemed pretty reserved. At least they did not rush me as I imagined. I grabbed a beer $6,000 COP (about US $2) and found a seat on a couch. While there were several chicas around they were mostly chatting away with each other. Eventually I made eye contact with a nice looking flaquita. She came over and we tried to have some sort of conversation but she was just so zonked on weed. She, admittedly, was having troubles carrying on a conversation. I didn't get her name but not important. Didn't want it. I really have nothing to report on the mongering scene here since I was perfectly content with the attention I was receiving. I did note that you could see Dubai from the road into Rodadero. In Santa Marta proper while were in the tourist zone one night I asked how to get to Bananas. Just to check it out. We were advised not to walk there since it could be dangerous so we did not go.

I was really impressed that my amiga insisted on cooking almost all our meals rather than "spending too much money" in restaurants. Insisting we take the bus whenever possible rather than the "expensive" taxis. Having breakfast cooked after a friendly wake up, tasty Colombian lunches and just a lot of non-stop attention was great. She even asked if I wanted otra chica. I know she does not like girls (too bad) so it wasn't worth it. Maybe when we go back to MDE.

We returned to MDE on Wednesday for three more days.

Quagmire. Thanks for recommending Sites Hotel. A really great place to stay. Modern, trendy and the staff was very attentive. Just in case a "prima" was going to be joining us at some time I made a reservation for three. As long as a visitor signed in with the front desk, that was all they asked. .

That first night after an early dinner, I wanted to check out at least one club. Together we went to Fase 2. Wow. I thought that Colombia was somewhat reasonably priced. Not here. $10 K per person cover. Local beer $18 K. I guess that converts to about US $6 which isn't that bad for a club but $18 K just sounds like a lot. We arrived at 8:30 not knowing that the show didn't start until 9:30. Slowest damn beer I ever drank. At that time there was only one guy in the club and the girls were just starting to show up. As the chicas slowly filtered in you could see that there was just a fantastic variety. Spinners, average body types and some well enhanced with silicone. I estimate that this slow Wednesday night there wound up being about 20 – 25 girls. Thursday – Saturday they said there are upwards to maybe 80 per night. Cost.$170 up to $200 was the going asking price. The couple of shows we watched were just so-so. The dancers were pretty hot just not any emotion.

A repeat of something like that would have been fantastic. That didn't happen but it turned out being a very long, satisfying and emotional night. Maybe too much tequila? Again!

Friday, my last day, we spent time in the rooftop pool at the hotel and in the sauna. Damn security cameras! The next day I finally broke down and was ready to go to Energy or Thai Spa for a little more and different enjoyment. I needed a nap first. The relaxing in bed didn't last too long and before you know it absolutely no need for another massage. The last night had a great dinner in Parque Lleras. Unfortunately, it started to rain and there wasn't as much people watching as I would have hoped for. I didn't notice any obvious working girls so my last chance for a change of pace wasn't going to happen. No problem as I was well taken care of.

Saturday the wake-up call was much too early. 5:00 am. My friend accompanied me to the airport and then took a bus back to the terminal in MDE for her bus trip to her city. Economical!!

SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS.

Barkey is not too good at mongering. I missed out on a lot of opportunities but. Having fun anyway. I was more than happy with my amiga for several days. Having decent Spanish skills was a big plus. Especially when spending a lot of time outside the casas / bars with a friend.

The Mansion – A good starting point for rookie wusses, like myself. Ones that like to test the waters before jumping in. The main staff all speak excellent English and will help any way they can. Almost an all-inclusive place. You can get your chica, your Viagra, antibiotics, beer, SIM card, directions, food delivery without leaving the hotel. It seems like you will always be able to find some gringos to talk to, share stories, go out on a casa run or just hang out and drink (or whatever) by the pool. It's close to the Santa Fe Mall which is great. If necessary, for eating more American style food and just observing and people watching. McDonalds, Krispy Cream, Starbucks (and of course Juan Valdez), pizza, banks all close by. Located in El Poblado a very nice area and seeming relatively safe if you are cautious. Don't flash your iphone, jewelry, money. What appears to be their regular taxi guy, Fernando, is cool. He knows all the places to go and offered to wait for you if you decide to go into a bar or for a massage. $30 K per hour was quoted. Other taxis offered general tours for a bit less. He didn't speak much English but can you can get by. It's cheaper if you go on your own in a taxi direct to your destination but if you don't know where you are going?

Hotels – Again the Sites Hotel worked out great for me. Cost was about US $100/ night for a one bedroom with balcony. Of course you can find much more economical accommodations but for this trip an extra 40 dollars per night or so wasn't going to be a problem. I almost booked at Lleras 10 which was a lot cheaper. It looked like a cool place but almost right at the park on Calle 10 and it was just so noisy. Day and night. I was glad I didn't go there.

Taxis-Everywhere. The ones running around MDE are really tiny in the back seat. More normal size ones go to / from the airport. Taxis are inexpensive. Unless you know exactly where you are going and speak good Spanish having the address of a place written down to show the driver is a must. Even if they say they know where something is, it isn't enough. One guy had to stop and ask for directions. Another said he couldn't take us since he didn't even know where the streets were. A chance you take, especially if you are taking a taxi from El Centro to somewhere in El Poblado or other area where the guy may not go too often.

If you are young, not like me, and go with a group of buddies you will have the time of your life. If you are up there in years, like me, still no problem. Just be careful. The more Spanish you can speak the better.

Santa Marta – The beach is crappy when compared to SXM. Water is warm but not clear. Too many pushy vendors. Took a tour to what looked like a nice beach in the photos. It wasn't. Too many aggressive vendors on the beach. Sunglasses, hats, food, tours, beads. You name it they had it. I'm sure if I was walking as a solo male, chicas would have been offered too. Just a guess. A tour to Minca was kind of interesting. The river, waterfalls and pools. Just a lot of people. Santa Marta doesn't seem to be a great mongering place for gringos but can't say for sure. I probably wouldn't go back.

The women – Walking around the malls, Ave. Poblado, and in Parque Lleras I think you will find that the average Colombiana is really good looking and some are really out of this world. It seems like the way they dress they are all ready to go out on a date. Even if they are going to work! Even the not so cute ones didn't look that bad by the way they dressed. Very friendly. In El Centro, not the same, but there were some real hotties on the Metro.

Money – ATM's everywhere. You don't need to bring dollars. Withdraw US $400 from the machine and you're an instant millionaire. I preferred to use the Citibank near the Mansion which was indoors. I also used an ATM at an Exito market and no problems.

Would I go back – A tough decision. Definitely for the women. The cost of airfare from LOS Angeles and hotels is a bargain when compared to SXM. All Good. The downside is what to do in your down time. I missed having a nice beach to hang out at during the day. If it wasn't for having a companion at my side for most of the trip I probably would have been a bit bored. But that's just me.
