So you haven't been to Mexico in decades but you know for a fact that it isn't safe? I on the other hand HAVE been going there regularly for the past 15 years and somehow I have the opposite opinion on how safe Mexico is. Weird how that works out. Believe what you want to.
Maybe the gringo traffic in Acapulco has dropped off because of, I don't know, the FACT that a hurricane went through it last year?
Agave, I could quote you the crime stats, but you wouldn't give a fuck. Which is ok with me.
When I did Mexico, me and buddy drove down from Laredo across the desert (we camped out in the desert overnight) to Mazatlan and from there we headed down the coast for the following 3 months camping out on beautiful beaches and staying in cheap hotels. Even then, we thought Acapulco was touristy and sucked, but we really liked Zihuatanejo, Puerto ngel, and Oaxaca. I would love to see you take a trip like that now!

A. H.
Maybe not a good idea to come on a site about traveling to Mexico and tell us it's not safe. Many of us here travel to many places in Mexico with no worries because we use common sense. I even lived for many years in Mexico with no worries or harm.
The trip you took as a young man may or may not be able to do today it depends exactly where you went, I've camped on beaches in Mexico as well but I probably wouldn't go to an isolated place because it's not wise. That's the unfortunate thing that happened with the surfers.
Also if friends invite you to visit do you really think they would be inviting you if it was dangerous? I don't think friends would do that.
Last thing I noticed that you grew up in Chicago. Not the best city at this time but I imagine you know where to go and where not to go. Same is true for Mexico, it's a big country and most of it is very safe especially for tourists.
I would enjoy you posting your stats on how dangerous you think it is because from someone who lived there it would be easy to tell you the truth behind them.

At that point, though, I will add it to my travel plans because the hotels will be renewed and they'll be hungry for the business.
As far as Cancun is concerned, parts of it are rough but that's true of every city everywhere. Know the language, know the culture, treat people with respect and for the most part you'll be fine. Crimes are going to happen no matter where you travel. Most of it can be avoided by a few simple web searches before you go.

Cancun beach access
I agree, 100%. Almost all the beaches taken up by lounge, chairs. Or umbrellas that you have to pay for. I was in front of the main section of cancun and it was more than a hundred dollars for.
First, I want to give a huge shout-out to Artisttyp for posting one of the most thorough trip reports I have ever read. It is in the Acapulco thread, #140. I put his report in the "Links to Reports of Distinction" thread. His report helped me a lot during my 3-night romp. Thank you Artisttyp!
Welcome to Acapulco!
Acapulco was a very nice surprise. When I first thought of Acapulco, I pictured a butt-load of young gringos running amuck doing shots and acting of fool. But because I stayed clear of those types of clubs, I saw very few. The only clubs I visited were the strip bars. Otherwise, all I saw was a large amount of Mexican nationals that were on vacation.
I think there were two reasons for the lack of gringos: The state is listed by the US government on the "Do not travel List" and / or spring break was pretty much over when I went; not really sure.
There were a decent amount of interesting things to see and do in the city. It was hot as hell, as well as high humidity during the day, but it slightly cooled off at night.
Very few people in the city wore masks, unless they worked with clients; like hotel staff and restaurant workers. Even then, there were very few in those places as well.
I only saw one church during my trip. But when I was heading towards the resorts, I thought I saw a huge temple or church. Because I did not have on my distance glasses, it turned out to be a big ass bottle of Coca Cola. Note to self: Next time bring your distance glasses!
Why Acapulco?
I'm still slowly working my way through each state in Mexico.
Note: I flew to Acapulco out of Tijuana and back only using my passport card. A passport book is not required.
All the money I quote is in pesos, unless you see the dollar sign.
I used CBX from Otay to the Tijuana airport and back. CBX round trip was around 38 bucks. CBX prices are seasonal. They have a low season, regular season, and high season. I crossed during the low season.
After clearing immigration at the Tijuana airport, I relaxed in the lounge for some chow and adult beverages. Returning there was a VIP lounge on the second floor in the airport.
Getting there:
I flew Aeromexico round-trip to Acapulco. Each way, there was a layover in Mexico City. Beware of layover times at MEX! Make sure you have at least an hour layover between flights at that airport! I can't stress that enough. I got lucky this trip because all my flights were on time; what a concept!
The taxi from the Acapulco airport to my hotel was 450 and it was the same cost returning to the airport; both trips by taxis. Traveling each way took around 30 to 35 minutes. That depended on the driver.
Getting around town:
First, there are no Ubers in Acapulco!
I used taxis throughout my stay. Taxis were abundant. Meters were nonexistent. The blue and white taxis had a price chart in each cab and that's what they went by. My hotel had their own dedicated blue and white taxis in front of the hotel. When I was romping through the streets, the going cost per hour was 300. Other cities in Mexico, taxis and Ubers can be had at a cheaper hourly rate.
Hotel:
I stayed at the Fiesta Americana. The place was beautiful and the staff was excellent. I had a great room, it was very quiet, and on the 19th floor. I got a great deal on their website. I paid for two nights and got the third night for free. The hotel wanted me to wear a wristband; didn't happen!
Was it girl friendly? Not sure, but I did bring a chica in the hotel around 5 in the morning. My strategy has always been the same. Whenever I reserve a room, I book it for two people. When I get to the hotel, some hotels will ask me the other person's name or ask me to write down the name of the other person. At that point, I don't say or write down anything. Thus, if I bring in an escort or a bar chica, then if needed, I write down their name. I never had a chica turned away.
Communication:
I have the North American T-Mobile plan; no worries.
Restaurants:
I did a lot of research before I left and here are my thoughts on the food scene:
Harry's Outstanding.
Yoyas Very good.
Tony's Outstanding.
La Vicenta. Outstanding.
The street food venders were abundant throughout the city, especially around the parks and the city's one church.
Spanish:
I thought because Acapulco was a resort destination, English would be widely spoken. That was not the case, very little English was spoken, which included in the hotel, restaurants, drivers, and clubs. This was another surprise for me.
The mongering scene:
Strip / table dance clubs:
In each club, I asked several questions and did my best to write the answers on my trusty note pad. Thus, if I am wrong with any of my notes, feel free to chime in with the correct information. I wrote down the prices of the cheapest beer and ficha.
Club: Karlota.
Cover: 100.
Beer: 100.
Ficha: 300.
Sex: 4000/5000 for 30.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 9.
Quality of Chicas: Good to very good.
Night / Time: Thursday /11:15.
Comments: This was a small cozy club with nice chicas, but the prices were out of control.
Club: Tabares.
Cover: 100.
Beer: 70.
Ficha: 250.
Sex: 450 for 30.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 20.
Quality of Chicas: Good to hot.
Night / Time: Thursday / Midnight.
Comments: This was a strange place. Their theme was Arabs on roller skates; WTF? All the meseros had on roller skates and were dressed like Arabs. At certain times, they would skate fast around in circles. I've been to many clubs in my life, but I never seen shit like that.
Club: Chicas.
Cover: 100.
Beer: 70.
Ficha: 180.
Sex: 2500 for 30.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 12 (told there are more Friday / Saturday).
Quality of Chicas: Good to hot.
Night / Time: Thursday /12:30.
Comments: This was a good size club with nice chicas and decent ficha prices. I fell in love with a real cutie for a short period of time; then reality hit and I left. I really liked the place.
Club: Samatha's.
Cover: 100.
Beer: 70.
Ficha: 300.
Sex: I had some conflicting prices. One chica told me 3000 for 40 and another told me 2800 for 1 hour.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 15.
Quality of Chicas: She will do in a pinch to kind of OK.
Night / Time: Thursday /1.
Comments: The best way to describe those girls is to refer you to the South Part episode when the kids go on a field trip to Costa Rica and they look out the bus windows and see a bunch of skanky street walkers. Yep, that is my assessment!
Club: Madisson.
Cover: Don't remember if I paid anything.
Beer: 80.
Ficha: 250.
Sex: I had some conflicting prices in this place as well. Two chicas that took the short bus to school quoted me 6500 for 30; WTF. I met a blonde hottie (only hottie in the club) just before I left and she quoted me 4000 for 1 hour.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 9.
Quality of Chicas: Decent to good, with one hottie in the mix.
Night / Time: Thursday /2.
Comments: It was a nice cozy bar and was designed quite well. But there were way too many short bus chicas in the place.
I only went to one club Friday night because I fell in love again and spent a good amount of time with her.
Club: Para Llevar OR No Name OR Royal (no clue) I thought this club was called Royal, but I'm still not sure. Outside the club was painted black and had no lights or no name anywhere.
Cover: 100.
Beer: Never asked.
Ficha: Never asked.
Sex: 2000 for 1 hour.
On Site: No, take out only.
Number of Chicas: I saw 15.
Quality of Chicas: All fucking hot!
Night / Time: Friday /10:30.
Comments: Because they did not have a menu, I was unable to get the prices for the beer or ficha. I could have asked, but I got so wrapped up in my new soon to be Colombian wife; I failed miserably. Most of the chicas were from Venezuela or Colombia. Unlike other clubs, the place was well lit and there were no dancers, just a bunch of beautiful women sitting around waiting for you to take them out of the club. This is a "must see" club!
The next two clubs were considered unsafe by my taxi driver; hence, we went anyway.
Club: Cratos.
Cover: None.
Beer: 60.
Ficha: 200.
Sex: 2000 for 30.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 15.
Quality of Chicas: Doable to good, plus 2 hotties in the mix.
Night / Time: Saturday /11:30.
Comments: This was a huge club with rotating dancers. It was a local place and very strange to boot. I can't describe why it was strange; it just was!
Club: Platinum.
Cover: None.
Beer: 60.
Ficha: 200.
Sex: 2000 for 1 hour.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 8.
Quality of Chicas: OK to very good.
Night / Time: Saturday /1.
Comments: It was a small club with very friendly chicas. I met a chica that works in Tijuana from time to time. Took her to a private 2-3 song room, but they let us stay in the room for more than 10 minutes; maybe they were long songs? We did all sorts of naughty stuff during that time; I liked her and the club!
I ran across this next club by accident. I was looking for a certain hotel because I had a date with a chica from Mileroticos. But when I found the hotel, it was full, so I gave the fuck up.
Club: Royalty.
Cover: None.
Beer: 60.
Ficha: 220.
Sex: 4000 for 1 hour.
On Site: Yes.
Number of Chicas: 8.
Quality of Chicas: OK to hot.
Night / Time: Saturday /2.
Comments: This club was located in Bumfuck Acapulco. I did not have a clue where I was and I was without transportation. I was with a chica and she quoted me 400 for 1 hour. I even had her write down the price to be sure. I thought it was one hell of a bargain so off we went to the cashier. Well, it turned out my chica was a pinche liar and the cost was 4000 for 1 hour. Therefore, I left and went searching for a taxi.
Street scene:
The street scene is limited, but active in one area; El Centro. The two streets are Belesario Dominguz and Velasques de Leon. The three hotels are La Puma Azul, Hotel Betty, and Hotel Leon. I went there around 4 on Friday afternoon. I only saw six chicas. I chatted with two chicas at Hotel Leon, both were asking for 350 for 15 minutes.
Then I asked two chicas at Hotel Betty and the prices were the same. But the chicas there were rude. I said Hello, and the girls were completely immersed in their phones. They looked up at me for a second, and then returned to their phones.
There were two chicas at La Puma Azul. One was quite hot and I told her I needed at least 30 minutes for rack operations. The price was 700 and the hotel was included. So off we went upstairs to street girl heaven. The chica was amazing; one of the best street girls I've ever been with.
There were a few ficha bars in the area with a few really chunky chicas; I did not partake.
Casas:
Every taxi driver talked about the casas in the city. I really meant to go to a couple, but I could not find the time. But they do exist!
Final thoughts on Acapulco:
It was a seeking putas and eating great food trip. I thought the city was very safe and I never felt threaten in any manner. Would I ever return to Acapulco? It's possible, but only after I'm done with all 32 states. Would I recommend it to other mongers? Yep, there are plenty of things to see and do and plenty of monger venues to boot! I had a great time in Acapulco.
Como siempre, Solo mis dos pinche pesos, por supuesto!
This is a great trip report Tom. Definitely ROD quality. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for posting.
Just so there is no mistake, the intention of my original post on this thread was not to convince you and punters like you not to travel to Mexico. I think you know what you are doing and are aware of the risks, so you are well positioned to make your own risk assessments and manage your personal safety accordingly. Still, stay safe and I mean it.
My intention in posting was merely to offer a different perspective to BM's thinking of travelling to Mexico for the 1st time. I am not about to stand in anyone's way once they know the all the necessary facts. I think we have a pretty good discussion going on here and amazingly nobody got nasty. Ha Ha Ha. An ISG first.

Friends can disagree and still be friends.
Yes I know that I could look up the stats online but I was curious on what stats in particular you look at to make you think all of Mexico is unsafe especially tourist areas. Crime stats on everyday Mexican citizens has nothing to do with tourists especially since the major crimes are Cartels fighting against each other. That's why I made the point about Chicago and the problems it has doesn't mean the whole city is unsafe.
I lived in Tijuana for many years and it's one of the highest crime cities in Mexico but nothing ever happened to me and this goes for the thousands of tourists that visit. The biggest complaint tourists would give about crime is police trying to get money for false infractions. Everyday I look at the Tijuana news and it's very very rare to see anything negative happen to an American.
As far as the travel warnings from the government are very vague and they even admit that flying in to the tourist areas is ok just don't go venturing off into the jungle. Yes Guerrero and Michoacáand are controlled by Cartels but they don't target tourists. So the government doesn't really know what's going on in each city they just go by crime rates that have nothing to do with tourists. That's why sites like this are much better for information because you get the real stories on what is safe or not.
Your explanation of you friend from Oaxaca still doesn't make sense. If he lived in a dangerous place he wouldn't invite you, when I lived in Tijuana I'd would invite friends and family to come and stay. I wouldn't do it if it was dangerous because how could I live with myself if something happened to them.
Maybe by continuing to read this site you will see that things aren't as bad as the news or government makes them out to be and you'll give Mexico another chance.

Chicken little my ass. KKK!
"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cN5YWtvLDAY&t=2s.
So, I will get down to the real crux of the issue and for the sake of furthering the discussion here, I will take the crime and safety issue temporarily off the table and assume Mexico is as safe as Singapore. Ha Ha. As safe as Pattaya. As Safe as Milk.
These days I am a full-time monger or punter if you will. There was a time, however, when I was into hiking the Annapurna trail, or the Callejon de Huaylas, or scuba diving the Raja Ampat, or playing the part of a cowboy in the wild, wild, west I. E. Colombia in the late 70's and 80's, along with playing around with the girls when the opportunities arose, but that time is long gone. These days I am into one thing and one thing only when I travel, pussy, and I want to shag the sexiest, prettiest, most sensual, turned-on girls I can find. Money is no longer an issue for me. So, this is where I am coming from, like it or not, like I give a shit.
Now on my personal preference list of countries with the most desirable, easily available, most attractive, sexually turned on girls; I am sorry, but Mexico is 2nd tier IMHO. Sue me! LOL.
In the Americas I prefer Brazil (SP & RJ), my current favorite playground in the world which dwarfs Mexico in this arena. If I were to include SE Asia in the mix and why wouldn't I since I have spent more than 25 years travelling to and from SE Asia, and I love pretty Asian girls of all persuasions; BKK, Pat, Jakarta, Phnom, Manila, Macau, Singapore, Saigon, and Yangon in roughly that order rate all rate higher in my estimation than Mexico.
I am sure your opinion differs from mine, and I am not saying Mexico does not have pretty girls. They most certainly do, but IMHO and experience, the selection is much higher and better in all the aforementioned destinations I listed above. But this is part of what makes chatting about girls interesting. Everybody has their own opinion, preferences, experiences, and financial constraints on the subject. Just follow your bliss. That is what I am doing.

A. H.
So now it's Mexicos fault it's not like Singapore? I don't remember making a statement that compared Mexico to other countries when it came to crime. The US isn't as safe as Singapore as well yet that's where you live.
Not sure why you felt the need to share your life story. If you don't find Mexican women attractive just makes your original statement more odd because you seemed to only not go to Mexico because it's unsafe. So we just tried to advise you that it's not as dangerous as perceived.
Enjoy your travels.
I don' travel to the USA for pussy. I work here and play elsewhere. I brought up Singapore because this is a city where there is ZERO violent crime and it is 100% safe to walk any street any time. The amazing thing about Singapore was that despite all the government controls, the nightlife there used to be Out Fucking Standing! The peak, however, was around 2015. This illustrates why IMHO it is imperative to see some of these places before they go bad forever. In the last 10 years we have lost ChangPing and HKG which is a major blow to our sport. And how long is Jakarta going to remain great? 4 more years? Maybe not even that long.

But overall, yes, I think the P4 P scene is not as good as it is in a few other destinations. That is one issue. Then the other issue, the overriding issue for me, is personal safety. I think the place is a lot more dangerous than you realize or are willing to admit. I know we are never going to agree on that one, so we will have to agree to disagree.
Enjoy your travels.
Same, Same to you.
BTW, I took a look at your posting history, and it is clear to me that you know a lot about Mexico and really like the place. And again, it is also obvious that we each have different levels of risk tolerance. Yes, I am suggesting that you might want to diversify and check out a few other highly recommended destinations just for comparison's sake and to make sure you are not missing out on anything. I see from a number of your posts that you like Tijuana. In that case AC, Philippines might be a place you will really like. I don't know. I also get that you really like Acapulco. A beautiful beach with available girls is a hard combo not to like, in which case you might really take to Pattaya (a polluted beach, but the Go Go capital of the known universe), and Phuket (very beautiful beaches, a decent night life, and no violent crime).
In any case, stay safe and do what you like, always.

I'm sure where you live in Florida is perfectly safe also but my guess is that you wouldn't walk all the streets in Chicago and feel safe. Yet you live in the US. So obviously you understand the difference between good areas and bad areas.
I'm happy that Mexico isn't like some of the places you mentioned, since the last thing most women want to do is be a prostitute. So when I see a country that has high rates of prostitution it's actually a turnoff for me. Unlike you I enjoy going to places with an interesting history good food and it's a bonus if I want the company of a woman that it's available but my travels don't revolve around it. So you continue to claim that those of us that have a much better knowledge and time spent in Mexico don't really know how dangerous it is. LOL.
Yes I know a great deal about Mexico and I actually love the country. Just because I only post in the Mexico threads doesn't mean it's the only place I've traveled to. Since this is a public board I often leave out many details of my life because I never know who reads it and wouldn't want some people in my life to know what I do. I am well aware of the Asian destinations that so many love, most Asian countries have no appeal to me and I'm not into girls with the bodies of twelve year old boys and in general I don't find Asian women attractive so no matter how cheap or if they all have gold for pussy if I'm not attracted to a person I definitely wouldn't pay to have sex with them and wouldn't be interested if it was free.

Huh?
In the Americas I prefer Brazil (SP & RJ), my current favorite playground in the world which dwarfs Mexico in this arena. If I were to include SE Asia in the mix and why wouldn't I since I have spent more than 25 years travelling to and from SE Asia, and I love pretty Asian girls of all persuasions; BKK, Pat, Jakarta, Phnom, Manila, Macau, Singapore, Saigon, and Yangon in roughly that order rate all rate higher in my estimation than Mexico.
A. H.
Hang on.
Brazil?
Have you checked the crime stats for Brazil (https://www.wilsoncenter.org/blog-post/homicides-are-down-brazil-its-not-time-victory-lap)? That place?

Don't Go!

That place?
Agave, if you really think SP & RJ is as dangerous as Mexico City & Acapulco then don't go. It is true that all 4 destinations suffer from street crime. That is why there are certain neighborhoods in SP & RJ that I just don't visit, and there are certain neighborhoods in SP & RJ that I only walk in the daytime and early evening, and there are certain neighborhoods in SP & RJ that are safe to walk day or night but only with the proviso that one's personal space must be maintained at all times. I Uber to all the nightclubs & bordellos at night.
But I think we both know about the elephant in the room and why Mexico is a different and a lot more dangerous than Brazil. But maybe we don't. KKK.
So, check out the Brazil Travel Advisories issued by the US, Canada and UK and compare the level of these travel warnings on Brazil to the level of "No Travel" warnings from the same sources on Mexico. You will notice a difference. But, up to you if you want to take heed of these extra warnings for Mexico or not. Personally, I don't care what you do.

Reasons not to go to SP or RJ: longer travel time from US resulting in more expensive flights, comparable quality hotels are more expensive in SP & RJ, Portuguese is harder for Americans (yours truly) to understand than Spanish, in April 2025 an expensive Brazilian visa will be required for entry, and Brazilian girls are no good in bed (LOL).
