A quick scan could have told you that the Pattaya section has turned into a toxic pissing match, with flame wars drowning out the former flow of useful reports.

From the old ladies on my street who open up at 7 am to sell coffee, breakfast or groceries, to the families on the campo raising livestock and produce to take to market, to the street vendors, the shoe shine boys, the Dominicans are natural born entrepreneurs. Even the hookers are self employed.

The ease of operating a business here is down to cheap labor, at barely subsistence level wages, and little or no regulation. When times are slow they can just close up show, knowing that there'll always be a line up for work when, and if ever, they re-open.

I ran businesses in Europe and North America where the big boys play.

Now I'm retired, with a local "wife", friends, street parties, and a couple of bars to socialize in. Healthy home cooked food, and no stress!

What's not to like?
