It's funny that this subject should even come up. The reason being is that a couple of days ago a friend in Bogota told me that she had been taking a guy around who was looking for a wife and didn't speak Spanish. Their means of going about this is beyond me. Is this a usual thing? Maybe I should have asked her.

I am planning on visiting Cali in February. Can anyone recommend the best Casas or places / strategies to pick up non-pros. I was in Cali last February and had some luck with non-pros, but did not have enough time to execute. I was thinking about trying some of the dating websites. Any help would be appreciated.

Could you expand a little on exactly what this means?

I've read almost all of your posts and as a Cali native, I don't live there anymore but I frecuently go I want to say some things about the city I love the most.

Colombian peolple aren't that racist. Sure theres some racism but they won't show it like it happened to the guy whos nickname I forgot. I think that what really happend at OM was they wanted to charge you more beacuse you were gringo, I went to this place and got in for free. But what happens in Colombia is that people tend to negociate "aegun el marrano" (according to the pig), in every business. So thats probably what happened to you. And yes use the term Bar/restaurante. It is true that in some places you can't go alone, like maui that happens to Calenos like me. Once I went to Mazao and I couldn't get in cuz I was wearing a cap. Om is a real good place to meet available girls taht are non pro.

I don't recomend someone getting a pretty (hot) calena for a wife. This girls are completely GOLD DIGGERS, but that doesn't happen in Cali only or in Colombia, remember Anna Nicole Smith? If you want true love, you can find it in Cali, but it is going to be extremely hard to find. I would recommend you searching for someone in her mid 30's with some college education.

Last but not least, if you want to get some action with a non-pro you better start paying for everything they want. Calenas are really into that, and I have girl friends that simply don't go out with come men beacuse they don't have a car and they take them everywere in a cab. So I'm sure that if you flash money to a girl, that means drink something else than aguardiente, specially whisky. Calenas LOVE tequila, invite them a shot. Only with being american or talking in english you have a great advantage. Other place that has a lot of single women is Casa de la Cerveza, there are 3 in Cali and in anyone you can score. And if you are into Veteranas, or old ladies, 40's or 50's non pro go on sundays to los ranchos, that is outside Cali. Old women hot searching for young guys.

Never post an add on a newspaper saying you are american and looking for a colombian wife. That happend like a month ago and it made the news because more than 15.000 calenas communicated to the phone the american man gave in the add.

Well thats great how you are exposing how superficial Colombian women are as a whole. You really need to pre-screen your ladies and put them through hell a little to see if they have and agenda, or to find out their "TRUE SELVES" I just finished with my 3rd serious novia in 3 years.. The malgenio was really getting to me and damaged our relashionship. As far as the attitude they have on "I know you love me, but what have you done for me lately" sad but true! You need to go through 1000 ladies to find ONE good one, no joke. Sadly most of the Colombianas are caught up with "Clothes labels, nice clubs and whisky" as a status fixture and those who claim that maybe your not looking in the right areas and should try smaller cities or fincas. ITS only a matter of time before that once nice girl from "Cartago" becomes a "Gold Digger" or superficial like most of them do, by either friends or family.. Get ready for the dreaded "Buzon de mensajes" lol

#4 Is see what kind of cell phone they have, If they claim to have no job, no novio and/or come from a poor family, but YET they have a new V3 rosada in a leather estucha.. Where did they get the money for it? Who bought it for them? All my gears start to go into motion then OR on the contrary if they have a shitty phone but are giving suttle hints every time you go by a COMCEL store, like "OH ese Celu con la camara y mp3 me encanta" Maybe you should think twice about settling down with that one. Its sad but cell phones are a very important social status to them.. lol

This is some very valuable information you guys are passing along. I am thankful though that I have yet to run into any bad apples. I'm usually riding the bus, going home to meet the family, taking the cold showers, and sleeping on the pad or air matress on the tile floor. So I know where they come from and what they are used to. Most of them are just happy to see me.

My new girl in Barranquilla had quite a treat for me the week before last though. Her uncle picked me up from the airport in the Land Cruiser and we spent a day at her aunt's beach house. She had all kinds of little gifts for me and things to bring back to my daughter. She has such a big heart with an empty purse (she just started working at Buena Vista last Monday) but her aunt married a guy who has money and they (the aunt and uncle) have traveled the world together. I get to see both sides of the track and I enjoy doing that. It makes my trips to Colombia worthwhile.

Truth is there are sooooooooo many more sweethearts and GOOD apples, actually I prefer to call them fresas, in Colombia than there are bad apples.

Unfortunately, on a board like this where for the most part 80-90% are more into mongering per se as opposed to really finding "the ONE" or "the ONES" and just having a phenomenal relationship. Be it novios, future wife, or just a cool novia or two in a few different cities. It comes across that they are all gold diggers or out for 1 thing. A VISA.

If you speak Spanish, have the opportunity to live in Colombia for an extended period of time, and really just enjoy life, the people, and the culture you will find that %-wise the "BAD" apples are the ones that are really few and far between. And most guys that really "LOVE" Colombia for everything it has to offer realize and understand this.

I "LOVE" Colombia and cant wait for my next two week excursion on the 22nd, I have met and know a whole plethora of ladies, from prepagos, to regular chicks, the elusive "semi-pro". I feel that when I make a good connection with a lady and we choose to become novios. It is unfortunately a very stringent prerequisite process. Im not saying all these girls want a VISA because my last girl did not want to live in the U.S. EVER! But I consider it being more cautious and seeing "where" the girl is coming from and checking for ANY angles and agendas. Ive seen and heard with my own eyes and ears, the horror stories and was a victim of it from my very first novia who got to superficial for me. Wont let it happen again..

Very true, but it's important to be able to weed out the "interasadas", they are definitely out there.

I agree though, most of the chicas are sweethearts.

Only remember, no matter where she comes from (any "poor" country). When you do not keep "control" of her behaviour. She will "westernise". And you will cope with the same attitudes western women have. In the end it all comes to : keep her in HER country. Do not take her to the greenbill or Euro country for a co habitation on long terms. It is ... deadly. Depending on her character, hunger and vulnerability for mass media influences.
