You can't just parachute in with three or four words of the language and expect to avoid a lot of frustrations. There are destinations though that are set up for gringo tourism where one can literally show up with nothing but hola and adios in their pocket and do quite well if they confine themselves to certain areas. Medellin isn't one of them though. And if someone wants to claim that they can show up in Colombian knowing only a few words and get the rest done with hand signals I'm going to call them full of shit. Take the average tourist who is satisfied with places like Sosua, Pattaya, Angeles City, Tijuana (should I list more? Fly him to Medellin, and even if he speaks Spanish he will be surely disappointed. Misplaced. Probably lost. Most likely bored. Even at danger if he thinks he can go around as in Pattaya and see girls falling in love because of his blue eyes.
And I am glad of that. The charme of Medellin is exactly that is not polluted by some type of tourism.

A 20 something girl with no skills who does not want to be a prostitute, but is motivated to work a "regular job" to pay her bills, buy clothes, feed her baby or help her mom will take home about 35-40 mil pesos per day. And I am sure it could be argued that many will take home even less than that.

When a girl starts posting fotos of her attractive self and begins collecting friends from other parts of the world, for MANY of them, it is not a tough choice to go meet some of those foreign friends with dreams of 200-300 k for a short time. However, reality kicks in. Competition is stiff, maintaining banter with potential clients can be exhausting, there are tens of thousands of these girls being hit up by many of the same gentlemen and they hear all kinds of crazy stories (lies) from their friends.

So ultimately, you make the choice, what is it worth. They don't know about economics. They know what their friends say and what their own self esteem or vanity tells them.

My guesstimate is the going rate is 150 mil for an hour and a half for tourists. The high and low that create that average is pretty wide. Face to face initial contact, if you have the patience to negotiate, can get your rate down or lengthen your time a lot.

Go into the barrios, and the locals are paying 30-50 for a pop. As a tourist going into the barrios, double that.

* Buy one month of Tinder plus and you can set the GPS to anything. It even saves the location for you. I just bought one month which is more than enough. Remember to unsubscribe from it through the Google Play (store) app (or whatever the iPhone has).

* Now you get 5 super likes a day. In Medellin you should use those on girls with racy pictures. This one chica actually had no sexy photos at all which is a bit weird. You have to pay for more Super Likes if you want more than 5 a day. I find 5 is enough.

* You can use as many normal Likes as well but I found that doesn't work as well on all the chicas. Some of them aren't very active.

The first thing people ask when going to a new place is "Do they have a club like Help?" (You should have added Rio.) You don't March into Taco Bell and ask about a Big Mac. If we follow Mr. E any city on the planet would qualify as such a destination except perhaps some in some hardcore Islamic states. That's why when I post on this board I try to give some insight into what's happening. I am not telling someone how to dress or where to eat but since I been traveling and listened to people on this board it's helped me on my original travels immensely.

So this morning I tried something completely different. I changed my location to Cartagena on Tinder. I found the Cartagena Tinder, as has been reported in the past, is flooded with working girls.

Instead of the usual mister naive nice guy I like to play, I decided to be a complete asshole and see how far I could get.
