This is a well-known scam in many Eastern European countries. It's particularly bad in Budapest. Sorry you were scammed but I'm shocked you never heard of this before.

If you had, you would have seen another monger post his Tinder experience in this forum back in mid-November, 2017. He even posted his sob story over on TripAdvisor.
In SPB, there's no reason to use Tinder, or Backpage, or Craigslist, or any other site where the potential to be scammed is high. For mongering in SPB, especially if you're a first-timer, remember only one word: salon, salon, salon.

These so called scams are known probably for centuries. You can see many versions on Tinder. Just see the girls outside of your room at the nearest fast food chain. At least in your case you have not got a tranny or an aggressive pimp at your door.
St Petersburg is a great place to monger, for it is a large city with a huge student population. St Petersburg offers the anonymity the girls need and is not as monstrous or as expensive as Moscow.

When you enter a salon, you're pretty much ushered into a bedroom right away. When I visited both salons in SPB, I never saw another client, but did see their shoes neatly arranged just inside the front door.
I felt safe in SPB. Keep in mind that if you go in the summer, say around this time of year, the sun doesn't set until about 11 at night and quickly rises again around 2 in the morning. Called the "White Nights," it is a good time to visit SPB because of the abundance of light and the generally good weather.
When I was in Budapest, I noticed several ads posted by WGs stating "no black guys" or "no dark-skin men. " Not sure if that mentality also applied to SPB and there's only one way to find out. If you and your friend are unsuccessful at mongering in SPB, at least you'll have the opportunity to visit a large city in Russia that has many sights to see and delicious food.

My experience with Eastern Europe is limited to Ukraine, Russia and Poland only.

I always buy a local sim card for a couple of euros (300/500 RUB) as use it for 4 G internet and local calls for a week.
I will keep studying this forum to get some good salon names and locations.

I am travelling alone from 26th June - 3rd July, I was researching current conditions there (world cup time) and.
