Astra Trac for Car Rental.
I'm thinking about renting a car and drive to Bali from Jakarta or via versa. Did anyone in here rent a car? I drove in Laos, Vietnam, Thailand so I know about the craziness of traffic.
Yes! Not Bali to Jakarta but Jakarta. Sukabumi - Yogya and Banten.
Price and quality wise Trac Astra does the best deals and if I am not wrong some of the large international rental co's use them too. I'd got monthly deal on Toyota Rush (under 2 year old car) for just under 9 juta. Monthly works out cheaper just not sure if they'd do pickup at Bali and dropoff in Jakarta or vice versa. The only one to offer a no questions fully comprehensive insurance and has support branches all around Java. They offer drivers but that's no fun plus the added cost. Drivers are expected to sleep in cars and you only pay meals and overtime apart from the daily rate. For local in and around Jakarta works out cheaper with driver vs Grab / Gojek / SilverBird.
Totally recommend it's quite an experience thb. Try and do Surabaya - Semarang - Cirebon - Bandung its really beautiful. Avoid driving at nights.
Avoid Madura. Toll Roads are the safest and even otherwise most of Java is safe except Madura which everyone warned about so we skipped. Try and get off Toll Roads if you want the best views.
Get a sugar baby to join if you have time to hunt it would be more fun!
Have fun and be safe!
Consensus on Ramadan: Slow But Not Totally Dead
I was in Jakarta once during the middle of Ramadan and it was fine, just a bit quieter with later start times. Some places may close during the first and last three days, as many girls travel to their hometowns. If you have the flexibility to extend your stay, it could be worthwhile, but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much. In fact, it might work in your favor since there will be less competition from locals and visitors during Ramadan.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my query. After reading the responses here on the ISG, plus the responses on other web sites, I've decided to add four nights to my itinerary. Lodging and food won't cost very much, and if I get lucky once or twice I'll declare victory and move on.

Blok M Square Shopping Mall
Organic meeting Jakarta.
Could you share what malls worked best for you.

Google "Blok M Malls". Any of them.
In my last visit, I visited BloK M Square shopping mall. Was just killing time and waiting for one of the spas to open. Saw one bird gazing at her phone & having a juice at the food court which is located in the Lower ground level. I purchased some food from the nearby shop. Asked her do you mind if I joined. She knew basic English and Okayed. We talked for some time. She was working in one of the shops outside the mall. It was her break time. Got her local number.
Later in the evening, we chatted, but she started quoting 1 M including the transportation as she stayed in East Jakarta (at least that's what she said). I countered with 600 K at the max. The main reason I want to meet her is because she knows some English. So in a nutshell, I couldn't see her on that trip. But I second what Goferring suggested above. Happy and safe punting.
Cheers.
Tipping and entry charges
A couple of quick questions:
- In Classic (or other hotels?) should I tip the girl after the deed? If so how much?
- Should I tip the mamasan after the meet? How much? Some posts made me believe that one should tip 50 k or 100 k.
I read that in T3 and T5 it's 365 k for one girl, which I assume would be rounded up to 400 k unless it's normal to ask for such small change. With the above mentioned tips, one encounter would end up costing 500-600 k.
Also there is an initial entry charge right? How much is it?
