ok, i'll describe how the mongkok brothel systems work with some photos for illustration...
hong kong has no official "red light district". the closest thing we have is situated in western mongkok, just west of nathan rd. in that area, you have hundreds of yellow sign brothels (ys), saunas and karaoke bars – all operated by hong kong's gentle underworld. i say “gentle” because physical crime remains extremely rare in the city.
today, i'll speak exclusively about the ys’s.
the epicenter of ys activity is on the corner of soy and shanghai street. if you stand on that corner, there are about 30 ys's within a five-minute walking distance. at all hours of the day, but particularly during late evenings, you'll find streetwalkers parading randomly on the streets. the volume of activity differs wildly from night-to-night. one night, it looks like they're holding tryouts for a vegas strip show. other nights, it's dead as a doornail. so your viewing experience will vary.
one important thing to know. do not solicit the girls while they're on the streets. “soliciting for an immoral purpose" is an offense. and there are plenty of cops in the area.
instead, if a provider strikes your fancy, you simply follow her until she darts into one of the ys's. she goes into a ys because 1) she's been called by a papasan to appear in a lineup for another patron or 2) it gives you the opportunity to follow her. hence, the girls are not employed by the ys's. girls work as independent contractors who rely on referrals from the papasans. and the dozens of ys's in the vicinity draw from the same pool of providers. so it doesn’t matter which ys you enter. one is not going to have hotter girls than the next. the only difference is the décor, which i'll talk about later....

there are usually a couple of triad guys playing cards or video games. despite their affiliation with vice, they're usually very accommodating. they need you more than you need them, and they know that. you simply point to the girl you've just followed up the stairs. they will quote a price, usually in the vicinity of $350. they will then invite you into a room.

once inside, you'll find that the room is about half the size a college dormitory. it's barely large enough for a bed and showering facilities. there may be porno showing on a small television. you will shower, do the deed and pay the papasan as you exit. the standard maximum time you have with the girl is 45 minutes.
what you get from the provider varies drastically. bbbj is on the table about 75% of the time. daty is permitted about 40%. anal is pretty rare. the accommodations are pretty drab (watch out for that cum-stained sheet from the previous patron). and just outside, beyond those flimsy doors, are a pack of scummy triad people. but one great reason to visit these ys's is the amateur status of many of the providers. some have just recently arrived from some god-forsaken village in china to work in hong kong because of <insert sob story here>. so you have fresh meat and real people, not hardened professionals. sometimes, they get lonely, open up and even offer to exchange phone numbers. i'm not saying this happens frequently, but it happens on about 10% of my visits. of course, speaking chinese is a requirement for this level of interaction.
the golden age of the ys's seems to have passed though. just up the street, you'll see two gleaming skyscrapers. that's the langham hotel and entertainment complex, a multi-billion dollar project responsible for the gentrification of western mongkok. with the structures illuminating the area, triads can no longer ply their trade in the shadows. so the ys business is only a fraction of what it once was. before langham, a vast majority of the ys providers are illegals who flee at the sight of police. today, many of them are in the territory on legitimate visas. so you have less of those naïve little 19 year old country gals who may still derive pleasure from being touched. still, ys’s offers a great bargain for mongerers and a thrill for adventure-seekers.

I was at Gam Sing, 141 Portland, a few days ago -- one of the 'A' grade YSs that Undercover was referring to.
