Also, a little out the way (halfway between Darmstadt and Frankfurt) but can be on the way if you choose the "scenic" A661 route rather than the A5 to Frankfurt, my go-to gym when visiting Sharks for a few days is Fitness b&K, 7 euro day passes. They've got the nice clean fitness studio up top and the heavy weights dungeon gym in the basement.

As for hotels, I've only seen a decent one at the Frankfurt Marriott, about 2 km NW of the main trains station. Can't recall ever seeing anything decent at the lower priced gyms.
