But being so drunk that you can't walk straight is asking for trouble in most mongering destinations. People are watching you, and if you're obviously wasted, you become an easy target.

In fact, most people have a hard enough time being witty in their own language let alone in a foreign one. Comments here that say something like meet the girls on the beach and chat them up just show how little those making them know about Rio. I have had to translate quite often for ex-pats living in Brazil, some even married to Brazilians. There is more to being genuinely fluent in Portuguese than Tudo Bem and Obrigado.

If you do plan on drinking, one good option is a termas. Suggest you designate one guy as a non or light drinker. Also, have your exit planned. Are you going to take a cab or Uber? One thing I have seen time and time again is guys walking the streets acting like they own the place. You are being told by people who really know what they are talking about to keep low key, especially when visiting the private apartments. As for non-pros and freebies with pros the guys whom I have seen achieve the greatest success either have drugs or are easy going. Birthdays are important to Brazilians and I have gotten invited to a lot of parties because I would not embarrass my host. This does not mean you are a wimp when you are alone with the girl, it just means not being a jerk, especially a drunken one.

It's fun to try and it don't cost nothin' but perhaps a caipirinha from a beach vendor. TravelBug2020 says his crew is age 28-40. If his crew is decent looking and half way confident, that is a perfect age to try to chat the girls up. Some of the local girls know a bit of English.

I'm quite happy one of my regulars doesn't drink alcohol, and after having her phone stolen, says she is quitting weed.
As far as weed, safado69 has a good policy which is he does not smoke, but is glad to let the ladies smoke.
I am glad to cut back on the girls who do drink. It's really a way to avoid a reality that no one would much like.

We obviously like to have a good time, but we stayed buzzed, and never get fucked up. We are also not the type to cause a scene. We are laid back group. We also know its our 1st time in Rio, and the reputation Rio has. So we will be alert.
We don't plant to walk much at night. We anticipate talking ubers to different termas at night. But during the day we plan to hit the beach, day drink and hit the tourist spots.
Our plan is termas for sure. But we've been checking out those escort sites, just don't know how real the photos are.
We are also considering canceling our hotel, since we found out they do charge a fee for guests. So we just might rent a 4 bedroom apt on coca Beach. With an ocean front and steps away from the beach.
We are still going in somewhat blind. Is there no action until termas get going at 5 pm? Sure we will flirt and try our game at the beach but no expectations.
So should it just be termas, and escort sites? Maybe some freelance bars like mabs and the one across from mabs that was mentioned a few posts.
