For the first time in my more than ten years of coming to Medellin I have checked into a hotel in El Centro having moved from Poblado where I always stay. I decided to spend the last few days of this trip there. The hotel's ok, fairly clean and quiet but the wifi is generally non-existent, Tripadvisor gave me no warning of this. Saturday evening, I visited a casa then a little while later had dinner and did as much work as limited wifi would allow and then decided its Saturday night let's go see what the town has to offer. For the first time I ventured into the El Centro night. Lots of people out and about, gangs of guys, groups of gals, families, couples and singles like myself. Thought to myself that with a better command of the Spanish language I would not need to monger here at all, you look at the damsels and they give you a 'buenas noches'. Garnered much eye nutrition in my jaunt through town.

No stroll through El Centro on a Saturday night would be complete without checking out the SWs, I thought, so I sauntered over to the back of Plaza Botero and boy was I surprised! There was a parade of numerous ladies of all shapes and sizes in all manner of dress and undress. These ladies would put a blush on the face of a Soi Cowboy go go girl. Some were virtually naked with all the goods of their trade exposed for the scrutiny of potential buyers. This place was way more bustling than Mayorista ever was. I took up a position with a horde of hombres just outside a club with the sign "Raudaln 3" on the faade and soaked in the show. The ages ranged from obvious late teens (not many) to 30 somethings.

I spied a tall well-built chica with the tiniest of micro minis and immediately got a serious boner. Thought to myself I'd wait awhile before making a choice. I look at her, she looks at me, I do not respond, she walks away. Then a little while later a greater temptation comes along, She has a look that I like a lot; if I saw her in a casa I would not hesitate to choose her. Tight jeans and a bikini top. I look at that face that could easily be in an American movie as some gangster's ***** and am severely tempted but boner alert ignored again. She walks away with lots of eyes following her. Then about an hour after getting there an early thirties morena who looked like she was from Andalucia, Spain dressed in normal clothes comes along. I say to myself I've had enough of a show and saunter over to her, signed the contract on the dotted lines and on to a love motel where a good time was had by all.

I was pleasantly surprised by the smorgasbord of delights that was available on the El Centro buffet line and would no doubt sample again in my next visit to Medellin.

Suggest you stay at Premier Plaza Hotel next time, the Wi-Fi works there and it is right in the middle of what I call Ground Zero between the Church and the Museum.

Your report is a little bit misleading though, not by intention, but because El Centro is very dangerous at night, especially for an obvious gringo. Additionally, Spanish speaking skills are mandatory in dealing with the SW's and there are some gems to be found there!

Interesting, perhaps one day I'll grow a pair and try that. Maybe with a wingman. What did ya pay and what did the notel, cost? Any even briefest description of services appreciated.

My first temptation, when I read Turgid's report, was to write something joking like "Hey you disclosed the secret!"
I refrained, and for the same reason you've pointed out.

The risk implied in Turgid's report is that someone, without adequate preparation or experience, may be misled and go venture to Centro at night, thinking it's easy pasture for the tourist just seeking some thrill. Beware: it is NOT for everyone. It's not Tijuana. It is NOT easy pasture. It's dangerous.

First, time. I am curious to know at what time Turgid went there. "Night" is generic. Was it at 7 pm? 9 pm? 11 pm? 1 am? Different situations.

Second, place. Did he venture also to Prado station? I doubt that. It seems he only roamed around the Raudal (the "red light district" in western slang), which is full of bars, and crowded by working girls and men till 2 am and later.
Most streets around are populated by glue sniffers and various young guys, who just wait to be lured by some easy prey. It's too easy to spot the easy prey with money in a bar, and then follow him where it's easier to deplete him of his belongings.

I walked all around at 2 am more than once, but using all my 8 eyes on four sides, never going where it was too lonely, and keeping distance from anyone in group of 2+ unless in crowded places.
Even with all my prudence, I behaved as a stupid more than once (seen ex post). I was lucky most of the times, and I was robbed anyway once in a room by a girl with small knife (yes). I have seen more than one street robbery in front of me. This is just a warning. Don't go if you don't know where you are going and you don't know what is this kind of places.

Judging from her hair I'd say she is mixed race, which is why I said morena rather than negra, but I may be wrong. Take Christina Millian for example. Would you call her negra or morena? Much has been said on this forum about the danger of El Centro at night and as a result I would not encourage any punter to do so. I certainly will. I left my hotel around 8. 00 pm and walked around town, there were many people out and about, I eventually headed towards Plaza Botero where there were also many folks, I then went towards the back and immediately saw street walkers. I was wearing a blue jeans, polo shirt and a cap with my hair tucked in. I saw a group of guys just looking at the parade and I stood among them, leaving them only to buy and replenish my Pilsen of which I had many. I can't say that no one took notice of me for there was the odd bloke that would give me a hard look and I would return with an even harder look. No doubt shit will happen if you do something stupid like pull out your phone to take photos. I can well imagine that punters are keeping this a secret because I remember the fuss that guys made about Mayorista of which I was never a fan and that area around the building entitled "Raudaln 3" of which I spoke is much better. I am mostly a daytime hobbyist but I can see myself coming here on week end nights. I got back to my hotel around midnight. Shit can happen in every country, I have been approached by aggressive morons at night in the red light district of Frankfurt. I always have a plan in place. Always appear confident and unafraid. If one guy with a knife confronts me, I will battle it out. Two or more guys with knives, one or more guys with guns, I will quickly and quietly give them what they want.

But Centro is way more dangerous than Mayorista, which if you stay right in that area is quite safe. Centro after dark is creepy. You need to be looking around yourself at all times and even that may not be enough. I've hung around a few times at night and lived to tell about it, but I'm not so sure when I'll do it again.

I agree there are some real diamonds to be found (certainly more than Mayorista), but for most guys it's not going to be worth the risk. Unless you get off on danger, which some do.

On another note, on my way back to my hotel around midnight I saw a young European backpacker couple sleeping in a doorway to a business place, someone forgot to tell them about the dangers in Centro.

I will end by advising punters to follow their better judgement, if you do not feel safe going out into the night in El Centro, do not, take a taxi to a club and a taxi back, better to be safe than sorry.

I am new to the forums but I have utilized this place for other cities before. This place has been a great resource to prepare myself for trips and safety tips.

I am actually not a newbie to Medellin as I have been there actually 4 times this year. I have no issues meeting innocent girls from social media apps and getting them back to my Airbnb in the past and I will admit that I speak little to basic Spanish to these girls and strictly use a translator application.

I am not of Spanish descent, actually I am Asian and some women find that interesting. I am 30 years old and generally have no issue in attracting girls due to my unique look.

To be honest, I generally have a great time in Medellin with the girls I have arranged for my trip but this time my friend is coming with me after I have told him of all my stories yet he doesn't have the skill set to hunt for women like I have.

I think trips to casas with someone knowledgeable will expedite our process instead of rolling dice.

We are interested in seeing if anyone will show my friend and I around (preferably someone with experience and speaks Spanish) would be happy to show you a good time as well.

Worse case scenario, if someone can advise us of maybe the top 3-4 spots for newbies I will work with that as I have been crafty with the use of Uber and Google Translate in Medellin and have managed to do many things in Bogota, Medellin, and Barranquilla by myself with no assistance.

We have a Airbnb set up in the Poblado area and would love to link up with a trusted members between 12/27-1/1. Would love to share drinks and show a good time to any takers.
