What a crappy Sunday! Cloudy and rainy all day. I got up, watched some of the US Open tennis on SporTV2, then went to a kilo place (Temperata Restaurant) at 3p to grab some lunch.

I took the Metro Subway to Siqueira Campos and walked into Luomo at around 6:30p. After hitting the showers, I came into the boite around 6:45p. Whoa...so many dudes! I counted 18 guys sitting around, compared to about 20 girls. It felt like a roomier version of 4x4! After about 20 minutes of walking around and looking around, I finally started chatting with some blonde named Lunah. She had nordic looks and I found out she is from Goiânia. Looks-wise, I would say she was a dead-ringer for Barbara Bach (the actress from James Bond's [i]The Spy Who Loved Me[/i]). This girl seemed like the party-type, high energy. Conversation was spotty - I wouldn't say she'd ever qualify for Mensa. Ha. In the cabine, the tempo was very slow and sensual. In NBA terms, I would say Lunah had a slow-tempo, half-court offense of an East coast team. It will be my first trip to Rio. I noticed many of the posts talking about entering the Termas and putting on a robe. Please explain the proper etiquette upon entering the Termas. Do you walk in, then they issue you a robe? Where do you put your clothes? Do they also issue shower shoes or should you best bring your own? Have traveled to many monger spots I. E., Colombia, Dom Rep, Costa Rica, etc., but never to Rio.

The termas etiquette I leave to the other members to answer.
I can provide some etiquette for Vila Mimosa.

1. Choose a girl that appeals to you.
2. The price is R$ 25-27. Negotiate about the time. Most casas allows 30 minutes, but some will try to only give you 20 minutes.
3. Make sure you know what you will get. BBBJ, anal?
4. Take a leak before the session if you need to, just to avoid wasting valuable time upstairs. Take the opportunity to wash junior.
5. Pay at the counter to the person in charge (often an agressive-looking lesbian). Before handing the money over make sure to point out that you want a room with a ventilador, if there is no AC. Also, very important, make sure to point out the starting time and tell them that no way you want them to ring the bell before the session finished.
6. Head upstairs. Choose the most decent vacant room. Clean sheets is nice, but to much to expect. A new sheet doesn't necesssarily means it's clean.
7. Undress. Put your clothes where you can see them e.g on top your shoes.
8. If you want, take some quick photos and go down to business. Try not to pay attention to the noise from the cabin next door and avoid looking at the roaches running over the old condoms on the floor.
9. Positions where you have less contact with the sheet/matress are recommended. Lie on top or doggy.
10. Most likely the bell will ring a couple of minutes before the time finished. Then it's time to hurry up! Make sure to pop.
11. Use the toilet paper to clean up. You're propably sweaty by now, use the toilet to wash up in the basin. Don't use the towel hanging in the toilet.
12. Give the girl a kiss on the cheek and leave.

When you enter they will ask you if it is your first time. For you, the answer will be "yes". They'll explain the pricing to you and sometimes you might even get a quick tour of the facilities (depends on who the staff is and what mood he/she is in). If you decide to stay then you'll be given a key with a number and you then make your way to the locker area where you change into a robe and they provide you with flip-flops. Store your clothes in the locker corresponding to your key number. This same key number is what the girls and bartenders use to apply charges to your account, so keep your key close at hand and don't lose it. Most people keep the key around their wrist or in their robe pockets.

You should SHOWER after changing into your robe and BEFORE playing with the girlies. Hygiene is important and the gals like it when you are clean .... especially if they are stroking you in the boite. Some people wear underwear under their robes and some don't, but only clueless tourists try to wear their shorts/pants and t-shirt under their robes. You'll look pretty silly and it's a definite faux pas.

Other than that, don't get overly drunk and act like a jerk and treat the ladies well. Garotas like guys that are friendly and like to have fun. You pay for all activities when you leave (the one exception being Termas Centaurus).

Thank you, Sperto. I can't think of better or more succinct illustrations (although the photos taken there do a pretty good job) of why I have never patronized VM, and never will. Yuck! Oh well, "de gustibus non est disputandum," as the saying goes.

Today was a holiday - Brazilian Independence Day. Seemed like any other day. They don't do fireworks like the US or anything. Banks and business offices were closed, but a lot stores and restaurants open. This holiday seems just like the US Labor Day, which also was today.

Cosme Velho (wherever that is) but then goes to R. Princesa Isabel and then to R. Barata Riberio. So I caught the bus right outside my apartment at 4:55p at the corner of R. Belfort Roxo. The bus then goes through Ipanema on R. Prudente de Morais and eventually onto R. Jardim Botanico. Pretty cool route to check out some of Ipanema. Once the bus passed the Jardim Botanico garden itself, I yanked the stop chain and the bus dropped me off on R. Jardim Botanico literally 2 blocks away from Solarium. It was now 5:40p, thus a 45-minute bus ride. Not too bad. So I finally have a new way to get from Copacabana to Solarium for R$2,20.

Into Solarium we go. I handed the ladies up front my printed coupon for R$70 off the cabine. I hit the showers again to freshen up and head into the boite. It was about 6p by now. Wow, kind of dead inside the boite. About 12 girls and 5 guys. Where did everyone go? They must all be in the cabines doing early programmas.

I then walked past some nice looking garota who smiled at me. Originally, I wanted to try this blondie that I had met on Saturday but I didn't see her around. So I finally motioned this garota that had smiled to have a seat. She had quite a pretty face, with auburn colored hair. Her name was Geovana and she lived in Jacarepaguá. We chatted a bit and I find out she worked for a year at Solarium, then quit and worked in Centro, and just came back to Solarium 2 weeks ago.
