Medellin Reports

Does anyone have any recommendations/advice on hotels in Downtown Medellin? I currently have an apartment lined up in el Poblado, but, I'd like to be closer to the action and be within relative walking distance of the action at all times of day and night! Yes, I did already see "the list, " I just would like some personal recommendations based on experience. Looking for a decent hotel (think Marriott/Howard Johnson's quality) with no frills necessarily, but good security and no hassle about chicas. Wireless internet would be a plus!

It's about 5 blocks west of the Ayurá metro station. I'm not sure why the list says "no more eating and drinking in the streets". That was all definitely going on. The action area is only about two or three blocks long. A strip of tiny bars, cafes, and cheap hotels all packed together, with hookers hanging out and walking up and down. No hiding it, it's all out in the open. Fun to grab a beer and just watch the humanity. I would say most of them are ugly, fat, and/or old, but there are definitely some gems in there. Didn't end up finding any that I particularly fancied, so can't report on that.

Just to add fuel to the fire (see previous posts relating to relative safety of this area). I felt safe in this whole area. The "action" blocks have cops hanging out at either end, and it's just regular working-class people. I didn't feel any sketchiness. The blocks behind (south) of the action block looks to be middle-class residential, with some actually nice looking hotels. My Place is right on La Mayorista Strip, towards the quiet end of the block! I've put pics. All over these threads of both My Place and La Mayorista area! I only accept visits by appointments or if I'm hanging out I bring people up for a tour! The other My Place Satellite in Rosales accross from Luna Lunera is no longer in operation, negotiations fell through!

Nice summary Floyd, about Mayorista, there used to be a lot more food vendors on the street, but it was "cleaned" up and there are fewer, for a while many were completely gone and tables were not allowed outside the bars. It slowly changed back.

Things change quickly, also with casas the girls move around a lot and they change often

Apotheosis I always had to pay a cover, 5k to 10K on weekends, maybe they changed, that is good. San diego they have a minimum on weekends, fase II does all the time unless you sit at the bar.

If someone still feels tempted after reading Floyd's report, always, I repeat, always, ask for the cubicle downstairs. It's smaller, but there is no adjoining cubicle so the masseuse might allow you more touching etc.

Never drop your guard in Colombia, as it can be dangerous. I have lived in Medellin for over 3 years, and yes, I love Medellin and Colombia.

I live in Plaza de Alejandraia located in Poblado. It is a nice complex, and I have never had any problems.

This evening about 9pm my door bell rang. Without thinking I just opened the front door, and damn the luck. Three Colombians with guns pushed their way into my apartment. Being out numbered and out gunned, what the hell.

They tied me up in my bedroom, sole my watch, cell phone, camera and my laptop computer. Then they found my car keys, and I'll be damn if they didn't steal my car. Fortunately the car is insured!

I managed to get myself untied after they had departed and called the police. ABout 15 police arrived, and I thought I was on a CSI set. I will give them credit as they fingerprinted everything. Will they catch the 3 guys, who knows?

Anyway, just be safe, and don't be stupid. I never should have opened my door without looking first.

Yep, have to say though. I still love Colombia!!!

My friend was walking behind the place where he works at 10 pm. This is in a very safe residential area. He was beaten and mugged and had to be hospitalized. You should be lucky that you didn't get hurt at all. Just getting some things taken is not a big deal.

Your report brings back memories. I too had a very nice GFE with a 'Lindas Chicas' girl. Unfortunately, she did not have a cellphone otherwise I believe that I could have setup some dates on the side. I think anyone going to Medellin should at least check this place out once or twice. Hopefully the chicas working here can't be found elsewhere. The expense is unfortunate but "nothing ventured, nothing gained", right?
