I have skied for hours at 14,500 ft and never lost consciousness! I was at almost 16,000 ft twice this weekend and never suffered Soroche!

Nonsense. In my younger, better conditioned days, I rode with a group of other bicyclists across trail ridge road in Colorado - 12,180 feet. Without bottled oxygen. People can certainly go to altitudes around 20,000 feet without a bottled air supply, depending upon how well acclimated they are to the altitude.

There are villages in the Himalayas and the Andes that are at elevations above 16,000 feet.
