Sosua, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
just got back from six days in sosua. not your typical trip, never stepped foot in any of the bars on the strip. i traveled with a wingman which is sort of unusual for me but he has over 20 trips to the north coast and so do i. we flew into sdq and saved about $300. each by doing so but never again. someone posted that caribe tours has an express bus to sosua, we took it and it still took almost 5 hours to get there, fuck that in plain english, i don't need to save the money that bad. we landed in sdq at 3 pm and got to the bus terminal in time for the 4:30 express but it was sold out and had to wait for the 5:30 express bus. at that time of day the traffic in santo domingo is so bad it took the bus over an hour to get out of the city, did i say fuck that? i left my house at 4 am and got to mary rose in sosua at 10:30 pm, if i had flown into pop i would have been poolside with a cold presidente in my hand by 3 pm and a lot less tired.
as mentioned we stayed at mary rose, first time there, the purpose was to check out the place as i am considering staying there for the winter months of january, february and march. i live in colombia part time and love it there but i get bored in one spot and i have so many friends in the dr that i just have to return on a regular basis but then again the price of flights are killing me so i will try longer trips.
first, i want to say that rick is a great host as many of you know, he will bend over backwards to help anyone and will jump on a problem as quick as he can. the only real issues we had was with the internet which took rick a while to diagnose but once he determined the cause of it he fixed it once and for all. one of the refrigerators in one of our rooms crapped out and he replaced it within 15 minutes. the only issue which is a major issue for me going forward is the cleanliness of the pool. it is slow season there right now and there was only one other guest there so it is most likely a cost saving issue and i am fine with that but if i were to stay there for an extended trip i would insist that the pool was clean. nio, one of the taxi drivers recommended by rick told me that they plan on draining the pool and painting it before the season comes. i will write to rick and get a clarification on that.
my wingman on this trip is an older gent and has issues walking for any kind of distance so we were forced to use taxis everywhere as mary rose is a little out of town. we used niņo and he was great and reasonable. i have his number if anyone wants it.
i had made arrangements with two girls that i have known for a few years to spend a few days each with me and one unknown quantity from fb for one day, this is how i roll and is not for everyone. i am not getting any younger, and am not a sport fucker and have little tolerance for drama, bad sessions, etc. i cover most of my time there with girls i know in order to assure myself of great sex 90% of the time and throw in an unknown that might have potential to be added to the stable as there is always a girl dropping out for one reason or another so it is necessary to constantly "interview" new candidates, it works for me.
my wingman on the other hand decided to start the trip with an unknown from fb against my advice and sure enough he was in bed alone on his first night, she didn't show up, he also had another girl that has worked at fod, very well known that was scheduled for the third day and i learned through the grapevine that she had been taken out of action and flown off the island just days before our trip so naturally she was a bust also. he wrote another girl we know that plies her trade in sosua that we both have experience with but she didn't respond quick enough (a day and a half) so i called in an old stablemate that he knew from previous trips and she was there within two hours and stayed with him for the remainder of the trip. he has another trip coming up in october and is already contacting unknowns for that trip, some people never fucking learn.
one of the issues with me traveling with this particular wingman is that he is a very fussy eater, that can be an issue in the dr unless you don't have a problem spending big bucks on food. when we got to mary rose we were both starving and i didn't want to start off the trip by dealing with my wing complaining about food and it was also late so we went straight to baileys as i knew that they would be open and that there would be no complaints about the food and there wasn't. when we were finished i got the bill and waited an eternity for the waitress to return my change, she was hoping i would walk out without it but i am not a sucker in that regard, i always tip an additional 5-10% keeping in mind that there is 10% added to the bill but my change was about 25% of the bill. she finally realized we weren't leaving and brought the change. then i asked her to call a us a taxi as my cell phone battery was dead. she went to the bar and came back to the table and told me it was late and there wasn't any taxis, hahaha. * there is a 24 hour taxi stand one block from you, i guess she was retaliating for me not leaving her a 35% propina.
i told my wing that he could try to walk to the taxi stand or he could sit at baileys while i went and got a taxi, he decided to try and walk. we got just around the corner on dr rosen when two street rats came out of the woodwork, i truly don't know where they came from as i'm pretty on the ball when i'm walking anywhere late at night in a third world country but they they must have had a good spot as i never saw them until they were on top of us. due to the narrowness of the sidewalks there i was walking in front of my wing when i heard "hola papi" and turned around just in time to yell to him to watch his pockets, in the meantime the second ladron was on me like a cheap suit telling me that she was not a ladron while she tried to reach her hand in my pocket, i slapped her filthy hand away and luckily as this was going down a taxi came by and i hailed him and we got in. so in essence the first two girls that we met on the street in sosua tried to rob us, that's nice.
after the bullshit at baileys we decided to try the midtown bar and restaurant which is in the don antonio complex, great food and the owner allan is a cool guy. they are open from 8 am til 10 pm in the low season, their food is top notch we ate there several times. you can also use the don antonio pool if you eat and / or drink at the restaurant and the pool is crystal clear and clean. while there i talked to the owner of don antonio at allan's recommendation after i told him that i was looking for a three month rental. he is in the process of renovating some or all of the rooms there and he showed me one of the ones that were finished and they were quite nice albeit small, a lot smaller than mary rose but also a lot cheaper. i think i'll end up at the mary rose due to the size difference otherwise i would go with the don antonio due to location and crystal clean pool but it's just too small for me for a three month stay, a short stay might be different though, definitely worth checking out. the owner is changing the name of the don antonio and for the life of me i can't remember the new name, tough to get old, hahaha.
i spent almost every day at playa sosua entering on the charamicos side, why more guys don't go there to pick up girls is beyond me. i will never step foot on the strip in sosua again for the reasons i have mentioned and between current contacts, fb and the beach there is absolutely no reason to, so i won't.
in closing, when it came time to return to sdq for our return to the usa my wing insisted on taking a taxi which didn't take much convincing because if we took the bus we would have to have gotten up at about 3 am to catch the first bus based on how long it took to get to sosua when we arrived. i called a driver that i have used many times at fod, johnnie. he wanted $250. ,no way. just for laughs i had one of my girls call her tio,$350. ,hahaha. i called niņo and he wanted $180. ,done deal. he got us to the airport in three hours flat.
