Investing Lingo: Yield versus Return
2%! Yikes! Poor guy. I feel sorry for you. Just looked at my 2012 return on investments. I got over 10% from my mostly good ole USA megacap stocks!
Mr. Kausch confuses yield with return. The ASEA exchange traded fund pays a DIVIDEND that is currently equal to a little more than two percent of it's share price. Investment pros calls this the YIELD. That's not to be confused with the RETURN, which is the change in the share price over time. On the last trading day of 2011 ASEA closed at $14.37. On the last trading day of 2012 it closed at $17.04. That's a return of 18.6 percent last year. By way of comparison stocks in the United States (as measured by the Wilshire 5000 index) were up about 15 percent. Against that backdrop, Mr. Kausch is trailing the market, and by a lot. Given his lack of investing know-how, that's not surprising.
