I have been to san jose c. R. 15 times in the last 3 years and I am reaching out to you experts on the sceen in sosua. (yes I read the rtff) but I can't really find all the info I need, where is the best place (or only) place to fly in to, I looked at the hotels and what do you feel is the best value (location, girl friendly, and value of the room). Also is there enoungh to keep me busy in sosua for 6 days, is it worth going to blackbeards for 1 day or is that a wasted trip. Are the atm's in the area we are at and is taking a taxi at night a must. I know I have ask many questions but if someone dose answers them. Thank you in advance. Also if anyone needs any info on san jose, I am a expert on that area. My last trip I had 2 guys rob me at knife point so I need a little time away from san jose. And Sosua has always been a place I wanted to do. I am coming from the South Florida area

When travelling to the North Coast(Sosua), the best place to fly into is Puerto Plata airport. It's a 10 minute $20 cab ride to Sosua. Flights to Santo Domingo may be cheaper but for a 6 day trip you will waste the better part of 2 days travelling from Santo Domingo to Sosua and back.

Your best bet for hotel is likely New Garden located on Dr. Rosen. For $50 its decent and within walking distance of the discos and restaurants. Rocky's is even closer to the action and at $22 is the cheapest of all but no A/C and very basic, but it does have a very good restaurant. I stayed at both on 2 trips this winter and both have pluses and minuses but both are very girl-friendly with girls hanging out at various times of the day as well. New Garden had construction going on when I was there in March so noise may be a concern early in the morning. Both locations were fairly noisy with respect to street noise. The ground floor at NG seems to be worse for noise as well. Just e-mail Wilfried to book a room.

A 6 day trip to Sosua should be just about perfect. It can be a little slow during the day depending if you like the beach scene or not. If you are wanting to check out Blackbeard's for 1 day to see what it's like that would be okay but I think you won't find anything more there than Sosua. I thought I would do this as well but always found enough to do in Sosua. Blackbeard's has girls on site and prices are fixed where Sosua is all freelancers and you have to negotiate. It sounds like this would be more your scene. Sosua also has lots of little massage places and you can negotiate just about anything with these girls.

There are plenty of ATM's in the area as well as money exchangers and all in walking distance. Taxis or motoconchos are plentiful but not really necessary. I walked around alone at night without any problems although I did witness a few pick-pockets in action and heard of many more as well. If you are familiar with this type of activity and you use common sense you will be fine.

For Sosua, fly into POP. Sosua is very close to the airport. 15 minutes or so. My estimate may not be completely accurate, because as soon as I hit the ground. I'm distracted LOL. Flights from south FL should be very reasonable.

As far as hotels, You'll get all kinds of opinions. I stay at the New Garden when I'm in Sosua. The location is great for mongering. The hotel is not the Marriot by any stretch of the imagination. I find it works for me though. It's a popular hotel for people experiencing the scene. Chica friendly. The Europa is another common one to stay in. Rocky's has rooms as well. You'll see in the threads about peoples views regarding each.

If you are a more seasoned mongerer (sounds like you are), then Blackbeards may be boring for you. Don't get me wrong, I like the place. Been there 9 times or so. But there isn't much to do aside from hanging out. If you've never been to the DR, I would go just to experience it. Even if you just pop in and hang out one night.

As for security, common sense applies. I wouldn't go wandering drunk down any side streets in Sosua late at night. But I've never felt unsafe. The mongering hotels are close to the main pickup clubs, and there is alot of foot traffic around those areas till things die down after 1-2am (from my experience)

Beach and massage places during the day, clubs and the many small bars in the evening is about my routine. There is an atm, although busy weekends can empty it out. Many guys on the street to exchange money for you, but I'm always a bit wary of it and exchange often times at the market.

As mentioned in another post recently, if at Blackbeards, Jenny's market always has a good exchange rate.

I usually do about a 9 day trip, couple of days at BlackBeards and the rest in Sosua. Originally, it was more like 7 at BB's and two in Sosua. But my comfort level grew after the first couple of trips, and now I think I would go crazy at Blackbeards for 9 days. I like having more choices, and aside from a couple of new girls, I've been with everyone at BB's. Multiple times.

The Sosua area isn't that big imho. So I usually feel I have covered everything after being there a week. I always tend to miss a couple I wanted to get with though

I did not have any room booked, so I tried Rockys. He was full, so headed to New garden, I called in at Orchidee who had a room available $30 per night.

I had a quick clean up and arranged to meet up with ISG member Chilly. We had a few drinks outside Bar Central, nice to watch the chicas walking between Latinos and Classico. Beers are 70 – 80 Pesos.

The main street in Sosua is called "Calle Pedro Clisante" this is where the two main entertainment venues mentioned above are located. Bar central is situated between these two bars. This section is locally Called "The Strip"

I ended up in Latinos Club; there was a couple of hot chicas dancing with a western guy. Both 9s. I thought he was with both of them, but one of the girls received a drink from another guy, and they started talking. After about 15 mins the western guy started to say to me, do I like the other girl, of course I said yes. She started to give the other guy the cold shoulder, and eventually he got the hint and pissed off! I was quite horny so I did not waste any time, and got the ball rolling straight away. She was quite tipsy so when I offered 1000 Peso and she accepted, I was surprised, but put it down to her being pissed up. We went back to my room and had some good BBBJ DATY & FS. Afterwards I give her 1300P, and she goes ape shit. She claims the western guy had promised her $100. She does not fuck for less than $100. Am I fucking Crazy! Who do I think she is!

All this shit! I gave her another 200p and got rid of her after a lot of ranting and raving.

A quick warning to other new guys on the Strip. In the first few days I had some bad Experiences with some hard core Chicas. It would appear that new faces are targeted by a few Mafiosa Puntas. So my advise is avoid the pushy girls, If they accept a low price to easily, and keep saying, "Come on lets go, Where is your hotel" Avoid them!

BBB, last time I was there was last year. Since then however I have been seen rambling around South America a bit...mostly Peru and Colombia, and I have had to postpone my next trip to Asia until the end of this year.

Right now I am trying to plan a trip out of Colombia to another destination in the next several months as I will be flying to Colombia and then looking to do some exploring from there.

Setting aside all my criticisms of Sosua...it is world's better than San Jose. I would just fly into the PP airport (AA runs specials from Miami), book a room at Europa or Garden, and start talking to some of the guys hanging around. That and reading thru this forum should get you going and then from there you can rearrange your trip to your personal tastes. ATM's are available and the little town is safe if you have a head's up attitude and don't do anything stupid.

You will probably never go back to CR after this trip unless you are doing a pass thru or fishing trip as 'mongering' in San Jose isn't even close to the same experience. That place has been dead for ten years.

Do not depend on the ATM's 100% or else you will find yourself traveling to find one that works. Travelers checks make sense and can be easy enough to cash...most hotels and tour outfitters accept them.

I see alot of upset people around ATM machines.
