I've had good luck here lately with Irma of the evening shift, decent looking, nice figure and above-average service, but I recommend you should take a careful look and make your own choice.

A side comment - one thing I like about this place is that the girls are all of legal age (18 and up) and work there willingly, unlike some of the MPs in Kota/glodok where many of the teen girls are apparently forced to work there to pay off debts incurred by their family.

Yes, you did the right thing!

IMHO, there's no need to break the law and fool around with a girl under 18, as there are hundreds (thousands) of young-looking legal-age girls available.

Also, no real need to deal with ladyboy pimps, there's plenty of young ladies available at Atrium Mall and various MPs in Kota. Kartika and Royal Mas both have a couple of legal-age young girls who have recently started to work there.

I know that Jaksa is not the mongering spot of choice for most ISG members, and I think there are good reasons for that: generally, the cost/quality ratio is not that good. There are a lot of fairly marginal, scruffy girls who manage to pull backpacker tourists and passers-through who, while not being that extravagant, still overpay. So unless you know what you are doing, a ST or LT is probably just as expensive or more than in Blok M, with less range to choose from.

Even so, I thought it might be worth doing a bit of mini-guide to the place.

For a start, as has been pointed out before by many sharp-eyed mongers, the lines between upmarket and downmarket in Jakarta can be a bit blurry, with many girls adjusting the price depending on the venue that they are at: same girl who asks for Rp 1 million at BATS might be happy with Rp 500 though at CJs or Rp 300 thou at Blok M. Jaksa is probably a bottom end place, where the prices are at their lowest - except that girls will exploit drunkenness and inexperience to get the best possible deal. But that's hardly just a Jaksa issue.

There are a whole bunch of girls who are more like 'Jaksa natives', who hang around there all the time and can usually be found in the bars there. While some of them are good fun and they usually speak good English, the quality of this bunch is generally pretty poor, and can go all the way down to freak show. This kind often manage to attach themselves to a tourist for a few days and do the GF thing for a backpacker or budget tourist, bit like some of the girls in the tourist zones of Jogja.

As for the venues, starting at the north end of the street:

Absolut: this is not a bad bar, by Jaksa standards, with good ac, friendly staff, cheap drinks and a pool table upstairs, open til about 3:00 am. It gets some Indonesian customers, including girls who are out with bfs and husbands, although there are also quite a few singles. There are a few girls who hang out here regularly, and they tend to be a bit more presentable than the gang down at Memories. Relatively speaking.

Memories: this is the easiest place to pull, but also freak show central. But it also gets quite a good sprinkling of better girls. Still, it's open air, no ac, lousy band. Cheap beer. Shitty food. This place gets going at about 10 and shuts at 2. Really is the biggest meat market on the block.

Pappa's: this is a very grotty cafe/pub/backpacker place. The only thing it really has in its favor is that it's open 24/7. After 2 - 3 in the morning, particularly on weekends, it can be quite a fun place, with lots of girls coming for a last-chance pick up or just to chill out and drink with friends. At the right time, it gets a lot of off-Jaksa girls, including some higher quality ones who are slumming it a bit.

Ya Udah: this place probably has the best food on the strip, although it's still pretty mediocre. It gets a large number of surprisingly "respectable" and "nice" girls, who usually come with groups of friends or with a partner, as they discourage blatant pick up activity here. Still, on one occasion, I made eye contact with a girl who was with some bule who was facing the other way and got her number for later. And I'm certainly not a miracle worker with that kind of thing.

Romance: This place is not really a great place to pull, more of an Eng teacher and other low end expat hang out, with most of the girls coming with partners. It's not a bad place for a drink, though. Lot of Africans, mostly a reasonable bunch, with quite a few African women, some of whom might be available if you talked to them nicely and put a bit of effort in - certainly not all of them are spoken for by the African guys.

If you do pick up a girl in Jaksa, the odds are that she'll know a cheap hotel where you can get a room for a couple of hours for less than Rp 100k. Nothing fancy, and I bet you'd get resistance if you tried to take an off Jaksa girl from a bar like CJ's or BATS there - I wouldn't even try! - but really some of the rooms are no worse than Maribaya, AC, bathroom, bed. Lot of these rooms are down little gangs in what look like private houses, who make the rooms available for a bit of extra cash.

Okay, I'm going to repeat the disclaimer: Jaksa is not at all the best place to pull in Jakarta, by a long shot, regardless of whether you are looking for quality or value for money. A lot of long term residents or discerning visitors will turn their noses up at it altogether, and I can't really blame them. Still, it has possibilities if you find yourself down there and at a loose end. Hope this helps!

Reminded me about a question I've been meaning to pose the Jakarta regulars:

I usually stay in the Kota/Mangga Besar area when I visit Jakarta to play. Consequently I would frequent the non-P4P clubs in that area and pull the odd FL or two. However on my next visit I'd like to try the more upmarket non-P4P clubs (Red Sq., X2, etc.). Knowing how status-conscious some of these girls are (at least amongst those that frequent the more upmarket places), would you think staying in a decent hotel but in the RLD such as Kota is going to have them turn up their noses at me?

Or maybe I should just stay in the south next time. I like the Kota/Mangga Besar area, sleazy as it is, for the obvious reasons - everything is available and the street food is excellent!
