BKK Report from the front lines.
After a tiring ride from Pattaya in what the hotel there called a limo. I end up with a major hotel fiasco. Booked wrong, at the Admiral Grand, only rooms available were the same rooms at 3X but their sister hotel Peninsula (5 star) has rooms for 2X. Ok I'll take it and get another room once I get wifi. Get to the hotel, lobby is nice. Get my stuff up to the room and guess what? Internet doesn't work. Plus the room is tiny. I call downstairs and they say it will be up later. No specific time just later. I know how this is going to play out. So I figure I'll wash up and make the best of it. I start looking around and there's 1000's of ants all over the place. Sh*t. This isn't going to work. I go downstairs to see if their hardwire lobby computers work. NOPE! Plus it's like 200 rooms with two elevators. Not happy.
I grab my iPad and run to the cafe next door order coffee and start searching hotels This kid server was very helpful. So I find one about three blocks away. Pay my bill run over and look at the rooms. It's a 4 star I think but the rooms are bigger and nicer than the 5 star 3 blocks away. I tell them to book it but they say I have to do it through Agoda to get the rate. No problem I have my iPad and they let me log in to their wifi. Done deal.
Back to the other place to collect my unopened luggage. I go upstairs. Grab it, tell the guy at the front desk I'm out of here. No internet and bugs in the room is not something I'm interested in dealing with. He hands me a bill for the room for a night. I tell him there is no way in hell that I am paying him a penny. I didn't as much fart in the room. Well this turns into an ordeal. I'm not budging. He says he has to call his manager. I tell him he's got 10 minutes and then I'm gone. New hotel is perfect! Park Plaza Sukhumvit Bangkok Just south of Asoke Station on Soi 16. Five minute walk to Soi Cowboy. I get all showered up. Grab some food at a pub at the end of Cowboy.
