Sosua Reports

Armando Casciati accused of promoting sex tourism.

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito is reported to have instructed the deportation of all foreigners who are known promoters of the Dominican Republic as a sex tourism destination. A long time Sosua resident, Italian businessman and artist Armando Casciati was the next in line. As reported in Acento, he reached an agreement with Immigration Department officials and left the country on a voluntary basis on Sunday, 14 September 2014 with the commitment of never returning.

Legal system officials and Immigration inspectors detained him on Friday morning, 12 September 2014, after he was questioned by the Puerto Plata prosecutor Alba Nunez Pichardo.

As reported in Diario Libre, the Special Procurement against Illicit Trafficking in Persons and Migrants, under Judge Jonathan Baro Gutierez ordered the cancellation of Casciati's residency, followed by his deportation.

Casciati had lived in Sosua for over 20 years where he operated several businesses including the Sosua Bay, Sosua Bay Convention Center, a television station, and several bars allegedly dedicated to prostitution, including the Merengue Bar, the'Clasico and Club 59.

Semen is primarily protein. A diet high in protein is crucial. Therefore, one has to eat lots of beef, pork, mutton, etc. A good beefy steak is a prelude to getting that chica to shout "Rrrrico, rrrrico". Think about it, a lion can mate up to 60 times a day!

But then if some guys on the cruise know what Sosua is like and want action they could try to get to Sosua. So a cuise could help business. But nothing planned by the crise is likely to touch Sosua.

Not so crazy, stupid or ignorant as you might think.

They had planned to offer a cruise with port of call in Maimon, which will include shore excursions for the day or two (overnight stay of ship at port) and (catch this!) extended inland excursions in the country of several days with an option to return on either a scheduled ship for the port or air travel to their final destination.

Unlike stated in the article, passengers opting for that option must do so even before boarding the ship. They must arrange such things with the cruise sales agent.

This will be a depart from inland extended excursions that had either to be carried out prior to boarding the cruise ship or at the end of it, without an option to re-embark to another ship for return.

That's why this port complex is so ground breaking for the cruise line biz.

In order to circumvent policies in the USA That demand cruise passengers embark / return on the same port / ship as they took. The cruises aiming to offer such options will make use of Puerto Rico's own cruise policies. They do allow cruise ships to embark passengers in one port and end their trip at another port if elected.

The DR was selected to introduce this new format of cruise offerings, due to the diversity of options for travelers to select from. From staying a week in Ciudad Colonial and touring the oldest city in the new world, to river rafting, white sandy beaches in Punta Cana, etc.

In order to make this happen, the new four lane road from the new CN in Santiago to Puerto Plata will be taking shape.

A clean-up of Sosua / Puerto Plata is concurrent and undergoing.

As stated "passengers" travel plans for this must be done prior to embarking on the cruise. It will not be selective after the cruise ship departs on the trip and beyond. Unless the passenger decides to terminate their trip and catch the flight home of option, there will not be a catch the next ship on port to go home as described in the article.

First, the bottom line question.

Right now Sosua is still a mongers playground. Although a little quieter than times past, there are enough beautiful and inexpensive chicas to satisfy the hungriest appetite. The chicas ply their trade like nothing is happening, and are not at this time being hassled by the obvious police presence.

Second Sosua is a civic planning nightmare. Fully half the strip is closed down. The action is centered around the area between Classico and Rhumba. Although the area around Baileys is lively, particularly the bar across the street.

For me, it's pretty much the same because I hang with my regular and friends. I'm having a ball and maybe I'll post a TR when I get a better internet connection.

The word is still, "C'mon. Down" !

This new cruiseport policy can not be feasible. To start with Puerto Rico is a part of the US which creates a differnt customs situation. Also many people going to Puerto Rico have family there because the US has a large Puerto Rican population so they might want to stay. That is not true nearly as true of the DR. I doubt that this could be financially successful.

But still the principal reason for the crackdown in Sosua was that the scene in Sosua got unfortunate publicity that came to the attention of DR authorities. This cruiseport was planned long before this took place. People go on cruses to party on ship. The cruiseport is just a TRUCK STOP. In fact most people never get off the ship. Now with the opening of the cruiseport coming so close to the crackdown in Sosua it is easy to say there is a connection between the two. But I still think the notion is ridiculous. If this idea you talk about of extended cruise stays is true it's someones fantasy and can't work. They are not going to change the well established market for cruises. That would be as difficult as changing the market for trips to Sosua, which if this crackdown continues the DR authorities are soon going to realize.

It all sounds good but the Dominicans are sitting back licking their chops, waiting with their hands out. I'm not sure about a tourist wanting to spend a week in SD seeing the sites when it only takes half a day to do the tourist sites. What will they be doing the rest of the time?

The same goes for Sosua and Cabarette, it's only a half day stop at best. Santiago doesn't offer much for the tourist, same for Puerto Plata. Outside money is coming in and the Dominicans are saying"yes" to everything. For anyone who has been coming to the DR for years it's very interesting watching good business models fold because the Dominicans have found a new sucker. Never invest in the DR fellas.

I then called and they almost laughed at me when I asked about it.
