I've been here since weds. Its my first time and all in all its what I expected. Plenty of chicas I never had an issue with the police or picking up chicas and I've gotten them from everywhere. They seem to just stroll through the strip. Classicos Thursday Friday and Saturday were like a movie it takes getting used to. I've had issues with chicas, they don't seem to want to leave. The chicas got some weird habits like pissing with door open and not flushing. I've had some of the best sex of my life on this trip. 6 chicas and counting. Full trip report when I leave.

The DR was selected to introduce this new format of cruise offerings, due to the diversity of options for travelers to select from. From staying a week in Ciudad Colonial and touring the oldest city in the new world, to river rafting, white sandy beaches in Punta Cana, etc.
In order to make this happen, the new four lane road from the new CN in Santiago to Puerto Plata will be taking shape.
A clean-up of Sosua / Puerto Plata is concurrent and undergoing.
As stated "passengers" travel plans for this must be done prior to embarking on the cruise. It will not be selective after the cruise ship departs on the trip and beyond. Unless the passenger decides to terminate their trip and catch the flight home of option, there will not be a catch the next ship on port to go home as described in the article.
If the hardcore monger take their money else where then maybe my Sosua will be back.[/QUOTE]As I said before this can never work. Somebody might have dreamed of this idea and sold the idea. It might have been someone who wants to clean up Sosua. But it could never be functional or profitable.
I know people who have worked with cruise lines. The costs of docking in port are tremendous as was stated here by another poster. The cost of aR / T cruise from S. Fla. to the DR for a 2 night stay would have to be at least 1. 5 G's (USDs). Who would pay that? Plus for longer stays it would be much more than that. Plus most people in the US do not reside in S. Fla. Thus they have to fly to their cruise and then back. The cost of that would be the same as buying a package that would get them directly to the DR. So the cruise would be just a very expensive cost to their travel. Plus a cruise is time consuming and why would people want to waste that time if their purpose is to vacation in the DR. You don't have to take a cruise to tour all the sites you mention.
So this idea might be somebody's pipe dream but there is no market for this. In this day and age there is no way any considerable amount of tourists would arrive in the DR from the US by ship. There could never be enough to make it profitable.

not closing the door is a different issue, but remember many guys like to watch so maybe they are being considerate there too!
on my last trip i was in the room with a pretty young non pro. when she got naked i noticed much stuble on her privates. i am sure she did not have the money for shaving the area as much as she would like. these girls live in a very different world then us. we take so much for granite. i think she was enbarassed when i mentioned it. i had shaving products she could have used.
i ran in to several girls on my last trip that were brand new on the strip 2 years ago who are still plying there trade. it is a not an easy life.

One afternoon, just standing out on the pavement in front of the hotel, a young woman passing by asks me if she can use my bathroom. I was like, um, sure! I let her in the room. Show the bathroom to the right and stay out, out of respect for privacy but even after 10 minutes, she does not come out. So, I go in to check and see she is sitting on the pottie with the bathroom door wide open. Curious!

is there widespread awareness?

I should have gone for an injection but didn't until a relapse 6 weeks later. This time incredible cramps and joint pain but not total body like the first round. Just about everyone over 50 whom I spoken to has lingering aches and arthritic symptoms in the hands. I still ain't going back.

I still ain't going back.[/QUOTE]Last August 2014, I did a lot traveling throughout the DR in guaguas, share taxis or Carritos, and Caribe tours, From Boca Chica, Santo Domingo to La Vega, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete, and Rio Sanjuan and got a chance to speak to many of the local people about the Chikungunya. Nobody knew how to say the word correctly but everyone new about it and many already had it. Many said it was the worst body ache / joint arthritic pain with rash, itch, etc they have in their lives. Even one young hoe I had in Cabarete told me that she had it for 2 weeks and that she was walking like an old lady when she had it. Some local claimed they had it short term and others long term and some for several months. I saw that they were talking in the news about it and some reporters even had to take days off for it. From speaking to the local, that thing was almost like an epidemic early in the year and by the summer there were less reports and less news.

I saw no chicas being hassled, no mongers being hassled, and there were enough walking chicas to satisfy everybody.
The big complaint from the locals is the lack of touristas. Right now there's not enough mongers to keep the places open, except for the usual spots.
I spoke to hotel and restaurant owners, and they are all over the place with their opinions.
One thing they agreed upon is that very recently they were warned that unescorted chicas would not be allowed to enter the bars, but they all shrugged their shoulders like, What can we do, the chicas were coming in as we spoke.
It will take some time to see to what degree they will clamp down and enforce these new rules, but for now the politicians (as usual) seem more interested in showing that they are doing something, but actually doing nothing.
There a huge conflict of interest going on there, and the desire to change to local control of the cash cow money pit, which I 've seen before.
Think Hong Kong after the Brits, the Bahamas after independence from the UK, and of course Cuba.
Business still pretty much the same as ever for the monger.

The Politicians are just hurting the economy of the town on the hookers and the closing of mongering places and arrest of their owners. They don't have a plan for those that work in the bars or the prostitutes. The plan is that family tourism will replace sex turism. Really? They would have to remodel the whole poor town of Sosua and replace the people that live there and all the shacks for families to be attracted to go there. Yes Sosua has a great beach but it is not enough. Besides prostitution is ingrained in the culture of that town.

C'mon. Down![/QUOTE]My Friend just landed yesterday. He told me since Classicos is back in full effect. The Prices of these chicas have drop dramatically and is back to normal (1500/2000 Pesos). The Chicas are complaining about lack of tourist, alot of guys are not coming to sosua like that anymore so the days of waiting on a 3000-4000 peso newbie sucker is over. The Talent has also gotten better since the chicas have to pay to come into Classicos. Only the hot girls that know they will catch a date will come to classicos, Its not like Dlatinos where you have all the hood rats, all the hood rat gutta trash will not waste there pesos trying to come into classicos.
Quick update from last Friday (yeah, I only stayed in town one night):
=Less gringos than I've seen before.
-could be due to low season or could be due to CubaDave effect. Don't know.
=6 pm - 8 pm. Most of the action still at Rumba.
-larger number of heavy set women waltzing around.
-very few stunners (by my standards) but since the number of guys were few very little competition between men for the few 8's that were around at that time.
=8 pm - 11 pm. The big chicas, 5's and 6's are slowing being replaced by 7's and 8's.
-Rumba still the center of action but the street itself is getting a larger crowd of both men and chicas.
-Line starts forming at Classicos before 11 and Merengue is getting busy.
=11 pm - 1 am. Classico opens up and the true 8's and 9's start to filter in.
-Most of the people on PC around midnight are crowding the entrance to Classicos.
-Starting at midnight the A-Team of chicas start to flood into the zone.
At this point in the evening, if you've got pesos you can have your pick of top shelf putas because the men were far, FAR outnumbered.
I didn't go inside Classico and this info is probably very familiar to the frequent travelers but overall I have to say that if you are fearful of less women coming to town due to the changes then your fears are NOT justified. At least for now.
