You really don't think those girls in Latinos aren't hard core? I think most are out there to make money too. A lot of them steal or try to leave early saying they have a sick baby or mother and etc. Of course this happens in SJ too. However, there are a lot more massage places where you can get laid for 20 bucks for 30 minutes. There is very little daytime action in Sosua that provide these kind of services.

1)I don't target those girls. I speak pretty good spanish and am pretty good at weeding out the bad ones up front. I can even do this at the Blue Marlin except there is one good one for every 300 there as opposed to say, 1 good one out of 20 or 30 now in Sosua.

Look, If you like massage parlor action I get it. IF you like SJO I get it. I just don't. I usually go to monger areas, hang with the locals, do a few girls from the local pick up joints until I weasel my way into some store clerk or waitress's head. Then I concentrate on doing her and finding another that has a different work schedule. Before too long I usually have a night and a day girl, then I move to another city in the country...repeat, return..etc. In the meanwhile I fill in here and there with a girl from the local working disco.

Every situation is unique as I am sure yours is. There are horror stories and there are success stories. Most people don't make decision like this without much consideration, thought and introspection. You sound like you have done the groundwork, chose a girl that wasn't working and let some time develop so you could really get to know her...these are the things that will tilt the scale to your side.

A lot girls in Latinos are hardcore and after hanging out with a some newbies there I can say they can ruin the experience. The freelance scene in Sosua can be difficult to navigate and not worth the bother if it is not your thing. You are right there isn't much daytime action and a lot of girls live for the con. A monger's preferred location depends on his style of mongering. For this reason I never get into the debate about what location is better. There are guys who love Lima, for instance, but for other it is seriously lacking and while I enjoy Lima, I can definitely understand where they are coming from.
Personally, I pick my destination depending on my mood. Rio, before it became too expensive, was the end all be all, 3-4 garotas a day, thermas, beach and Help it was my personal porn movie. Lima, a more relaxed tourist evironment, hanging out with friends, maybe some shopping, good food, massages at Relax y Vida, non pro action and all night takeout from Tequila Rocks for my convienence. Bogota, shorter trips, straight mongering, sampling the buffet that is Santa Fe and also taking one back to hotel for good measure after a long night. Then in day enjoying one of the plastic dolls at Abejitas. Cartagena before the decline of the dollar, the poor man's Rio without the thermas and porn quality performers. Buenos Aires is a bit too rich for my budget (great talent though), too professional for my taste but I enjoyed a world class city with some good non pro action, if you have the language and the time.
Sosua, for me, is the short trip from the states, the caribbean vibe, some good performers and the party. It has definitely changed (more expensive) and there is better talent to be had elsewhere but it is one my favorite locations. That said, the girls can be ruthless and there is a contigent that are there solely to con some mark out of as much money as they can and enjoy doing so. They specialize in that inviting smile and that ego boosting approach that lulls a monger into a possible bad experience. This is a street culture where the tigre or tiguere (con man) is king so be aware that there are a lot people on the make (male, female and even the police) ready to hustle an unsuspecting gringo out of some money. My last trip, a taxi driver tried to charge 1000 pesos to go a short distance because I was hanging out with a new monger who was apparently paying him too much. After being caught, he took 100 for the trip. A bit of knowledge (use these boards), some Spanish and a bit of self-confidence is helpful in navigating the Sosua scene. Oh yeah, that nice bartender is not "your girl. " She is working the same game from a different angle.
I will be doing San Jose soon, my coworker loves it so I will be taking a short trip just to see what it is like.

One time after many many trips to Sosua I stayed in Cabarrette in an all inclusive with one of my kids. Around 10 I ventured out and picked up a girl on the beach who said she had a place to go. Me being used to negotiating before I hop on a motoconcho let my guard down and got on with said chica...The guy started driving out of Cabarrette towards Semana pulled a u-turn and drove right back into Cabarrette and dropped us off pretty much across the street from where he picked us up. LOL!
Then, he demanded 10 dollars US. I told him in Spanish that he must think I am a stupid gringo, but I am not, and gave him 50 pesos and walked away with him screaming behind me. I often wondered after that how many guys fall for stupid shit like that as I am quite certain the girl was going to get half of the tenner....
There are multi-level games depending on how smart they think you are. This time I had on for the first time ever a tourist bracelet and was out of the area people knew me.
Girls in Sosua will ask for 100 bucks and then laugh when you tell them you know the game. Everyone will try you out for size. I remember one time I pulled in for gas in Santiago and asked for 500 pesos. A guy who worked there came up, shook my hand and started talking to me. Then another. Both were talking about girls, etc...laughing and joking. Out of the corner of my eye the guy pumping my gas stopped at 300 pesos and quickly reset the meter so I wouldn't know then said '500 pesos sir'. I handed him 300 pesos and winked at him and said.."I saw what you did". He just smiled and accepted it.
The DR is a funny, interesting place.

That usually stops them in their tracks and spares you having to deal with the old "policia" gambit. Twice in my last three trips guys got caught with a screaming chica threatening to call the police which lead to the guys breaking down and giving them $100. There are girls who only seek out the new face or the guy who looks just a little too happy to be there.

I was in Sosua last month, and had a ball!. One of the chicas I met at Four Roses Bar was called Victoria or Vistoria, she was abt 26, pretty with black hair. The thing that struck me about her was that she told me she had no children (I could believe her, her body was good), and no cell phone!, anyone know of her?

Me and a buddy are making our 1st trip to the North Coast and we are considering staying there. We have made previous trips to BC and SD, but we decided to try Sosua and Puerta Plata this time around. We will be staying at a rental condo in Perla Marina which is half way between Sosua and Cabarete. Does anyone know if taxis are readily available in Perla Marina? I'm very leery about motoconchos due to a previous near death experience in Boca Chica on one.

Perla Marina is really a suburban (mostly German) housing development in the middle of nowhere. You can get a taxi by calling or walking out to the edge of the road and flagging down passing taxis.
Better yet, talk to your taxi driver from the airport. He will likely be happy to become your driver for the week. If not, shop for a driver at the airport among the taxi drivers milling around.
You really are staying out of the action. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you found it.

I agree with WestFLA. Taxi Drivers spend a lot of time sitting around waiting for fares. You can find driver you like and arrange to have him be on call for a fee plus gas (gas is $5 a gallon here) for longer touring around or a fixed rate for short trips like into town or back. Then just call him on his cell phone when you need him. Explain what you want and let him make an offer. If you find someone you get along with, treat him well, he can provide a lot of useful information.
Just finish being in Sosua from 4/12-4/18 and had a blash. The women or mostly young girls was the bomb man I mean the bomb. Most of the girls I got was between 19--23 yoa. And most was sooo tigth down there I swear when I turn on the light to look at their beaver my finger can bearly get in there. The hoes that use to be on the corner got ran away by the city I guess at least most of them. There were sooooo many niceFATASS young girls there and the real spinner was the one that was quiet with no makeup and didn't have a fantastic body and was not hounding you. These girls KNOW that they got good beaver and me and my pals had 4 of them and they PUT IT ON YOU. I just didn't beleive one Hati girl and one DR GIRL PUT THAT BEAVER ON ME THAT I WAS VERY VERY IMPRESS. So advise try looking for Copper instead of Gold ha ha ha.
