I haven't been to Columbia, but I would say that Sosua, DR would be ideal for a first international mongering trip for various reasons.

1. It is quite close to the US, so short flight from Miami (90 mins).
2. Airport is small and close to town (5 miles), so no stress.
3. Town is small and you can go everywhere on foot if you want, so no stress about transportation. Or use cheap motoconchos for short distances if hot and/or tired.
4. Plenty of English speaking restaurants and bars everywhere within walking distance.
5. Fairly nice beach within walking distance. Beach has many stalls, bars, and restaurants.
6. Plenty of suitable hotels at reasonable prices.
7. Mongering area is fairly compact.
8. Relatively safe vis-a-vis crime and muggings. Lots of tourists around day and night.
9. All kinds of other relaxing things available, all within walking distance, for example barber, massage, pedicure--all cheap compared to US.
10. Plenty of ATMs available, or money change places.
11. Chicas everywhere, they will find you.

So overall Sosua is very easy for a first international trip, because everything you need is at hand and you don't have to worry about the stress of navigating a foreign culture. If you don't speak Spanish, at least it is fairly easy to understand some of the words and communicate with signs.

It would be hard to venture out alone not speaking spanish. What specifically are you looking for in women? And what is your budget. Especially for someone who has never mongered internationally before.

As Westys recent report indicated, Sosua can be overwhelming. BB is a good starting point and you can always visit Sosua for future intel. The main benefit about BB is the set pricing structure. Negoitiating in Sosua can go a foul at any time, and the performance can leave you frustrated. And please don't give the impression that Sosua is crime free. You have to maintain your wits at all times. Sosua has traps that after 20 visits I still have to remind myself to look out for.

The Sosua is easy & fun. I love the DR. I live in Punta Cana, but was born in the US. I was just surprised by that someone thought that the girls in the DR were not good looking. I disagree. They are great. You will have a great time and you will get laid. It is impossible to not get laid in PP/Sosua.

The cholera outbreak in Haiti has spread to the Dominican Republic and that nation has issued a maximum health alert, its health ministry said.

One more reason to look to asia for my upcomeing travel plans. No cholera and the pussy is better two good reasons lol.

I wouldn't say that Sosua is crime-free, but it is safe enough to walk around 24 hours a day without much risk of getting mugged. People try to swindle you in all kinds of little ways, but in the DR it is more at the individual level. In the US you will find yourself systematically swindled by businesses on a bigger scale.

One thing that people forget is that there are plenty of tourists in Sosua and Caberete who are not there for the mongering, and I don't think they find the place particularly dangerous.

As far as negotiating with girls I don't have any comparative data for Colombia, but although I have certainly picked a few duds in Sosua, in general I am amazed and often surprised at the quality of the sexual experiences that I have had. For a man in his fifties to have a wonderful passionate sexual experience with a young woman of 20 is considered improbable beyond the bounds of reality in most people's minds, yet in Sosua such a thing is common and unremarkable and I have had more than I could ever count.

Obviously, no matter what destination you go to, your own ability to forge a bond and chemistry (albeit temporary) with a young woman will to some extent determine the quality of your experience. You can't just rate the girls on quality of performance as if they were automobiles. It is an interactive processs, and I find that most of the girls in the DR are pleasant, polite, humorous, and fun to be with. Of course there are some dogs, but the thrill of the chase lies in finding the ones who you have good empathy with, and the sexual chemistry will follow.

Can I purchase the phone in the States and have it be functional in the DR? Or is that a bad idea? Would I get a better or worse deal in the DR? Where is a good place to make such a purchase in POP?

Just buy one in the DR. I live here and I have a cell service in the US also. If you use your US cell you will pay roaming fees. Mine are $2 a minute. You can buy a cheap phone for less than $30 and then just pay buy the minutes. Way less expensive. Also Skype is really a great system if you have a laptop

I paid about $125, the phone comes with headphones, charger, stylus pen, a USB cable and a samsung disc with a samsung phone manager program (the program is in numerous languages including spanish).

She took the phone to a Claro shop and they changed the settings so it would work in DR and they installed a SIM card (chip), and she transferred her old phone number to her new phone. Total cost with minutes added was about $10 US.

If you buy a phone to take with you, get one that takes a SIM card. About a year ago I bought a zte brand cell phone at claro for about 500 pesos (about 13US) with minutes, the phone works, but the numbers on the screen are super small.

There is a claro shop in the airport in SDQ.

I bought, rooted, and unlocked Android phone before leaving the States. Purchased a Claro SIM for 290 DP and was up and running as soon as the card was activated. Being an Android phone the contacts and etc. synced with my gmail account and I have Internet in many locations.

An easy way to get almost any phone unlocked is to use this site. Cost me about $20 and had the code and instructions the next morning.

If you do bring a smart phone into the DR make sure you turnoff all data roaming since most plans charge about $15/MB which can add up to big dollars vary fast.
