He has a higher budget than most of the people here, so he is spending more. Nothing wrong with that. If I had the money, I'd probably do the same thing.
There would be a few differences. I wouldn't be paying TLN for someone I'd just met. If I did, she wouldn't be going back to the club after 2 hours. If I paid TLN and she left after 2 hours, she certainly wouldn't be hanging with me the next day, unless she had agreed to a much lower price.
No matter what, I'd never pay a takeout fee if I didn't take her direct from the club.
If you want to live large, rent the big penthouse, but you're also renting a few unexpected things with it. Any woman you bring back sees you as ridiculously wealthy. You've taken someone who is probably still living with family, in a rough neighborhood and brought them to a palace.
You're frequently going to get a couple of reactions. Some women want to get as much of it as they can. They want to get some status with you, find some way to tie you down.
It's not something they can get from a Colombian. A Colombian living in a comparable situation is unlikely to bring a club or casa girl home. They'll either use a love motel, or the rooms on site.
The other response, which is the one he encountered, is to grab as much as you can, while you can. The next day the woman blew up his phone. She wanted to get to him before he went looking for someone else. If he was going to spend money, she wanted to be the one he spent it on.

I agree it's not unusual for a girl to bring a chaperone first time out. It's for safety reasons. I'm OK with it if she asks first. I walk away if it happens unannounced.
As for the exchange rate discussion, my advice is redirect the conversation to reality: we're in Colombia and these are pesos. It's a slippery slope justifying prices based on what they would be in another place. Think about those $6 bottles of water in airport shops that cost $1 in supermarkets. Would any of us consider paying $6 in a supermarket because we know it costs that much at an airport shop?

There is no way to predict currency fluctuations. I discussed it with my Economics 101 professor, and asked if could make money trading currencies. He set me straight on that. Another professor explained the theory on currency exchange rates even deeper, though that was around 1980. Since then all economic theory that seemed to work well, has failed to work in today's environment of low interest rates. As as example of that, note that if traditional economic theory applied now, the US would have been in hyperinflation mode years ago due to ultra low interest rates.
All I do know is that currency trends tend to last for than a few years. The US dollar was weak for a decade, and now that it has strengthened, I expect it will remain that way for awhile. Someone mentioned that they thought the COP was related to oil. But, Colombia is not a big exporter of oil, so I doubt that. Besides, in the old days, the strength of the USD was relative to the price of oil, and vice versa. That old paradigm is gone, as well. As Mr. E pointed out, if we could predict currency rates, we could be making easy money off that knowledge. You might as well try to tell me where the S&P 500 is going to be on the next 4th of July.

On currency, damn it hope we stay strong and Eszpresszo is correct. On a side note, I was expecting (hoping) Brazil's Real to tank. About six months ago I heard from a Brazilian acquaintance their govt had lost or stolen hundreds of billions from the national treasury and that it was going to hurt the country's credibility badly. Hoped that would push it past 4-1. Has not happened.

The glue sniffer's are more around the little white church at Calle 51 & Carr 54 next to Plaza Botero.
The biggest factor for the exchange rate going forward is how the peace agreement is going. If FARC and the government generally abide by the terms of the accord, the Peso will strengthen against the USD. If not, it will weaken. Yes relative interest rates and inflation rates matter, but in the case of Colombia they are overridden by security concerns. If things go well, investment will flow into the country which will bolster the currency.
The exchange rate "shouldn't" matter for what we pay the girls. However, a few dim-witted Gringos have insisted on explaining it to the girls. Maybe some Brits or Canadians should explain how their currencies have fallen and therefore they should pay less.
The cost of water in the airport vs the grocery store is instructive. Also instructive is the typical wage in Colombia vs the typical wage in the US, Canada, or Europe. A typical monthly wage in Colombia is about 700,000 pesos. That should give you a good guideline for what to pay the girls. Hint - a fraction of what you'd pay in your own country.

Any suggestions on what places are good on Sundays usually? I've found Latin America to be less open on Sundays. What are the hot spots for drinks and what are the best casas on Sunday?
Any suggestions on what to do other than mongering and drinking? I figure we'll look around the parks, maybe do that cable car, see a couple of escobar sights. Anything else? I don't think we'll have the time to go out to Guatape.
One more thing. A friend of mine said Escobar's house that he was caught in is now a brothel. Anyone been? Is it simple to get to? He said a friend of his got him in and implied that it wasn't as easy as the other ones.
After reading through the forums I decided to book my stay for the first few nights near Lleras park. (By the way it's pronounced Yaris Parkay I've been told).
The girls walking the street were young, and hot. Some of them approached me, other times it was their handlers. Really not pushy compared to Bangkok.
Prices quoted were 200 k on average, 150 if I balked. These prices were per hour.
I didn't pick any up, because I didn't want to pay for the price of a short time, possibly a guest fee and a girl. Not a bad idea if you have a place.
The second day I went and called an uber 10k to take me to Balcones de Cuba.
There I almost panicked. I've been in knock shops all around, but this was an odd situation.
There was a fat older woman standing in front and I walked right up her. She looked very confused. The fact I don't speak Spanish didn't help. She called over 3 younger guys. I thought, great. Time to get mugged.
I pantomimed asking about girls, massage. Nothing.
Finally I asked for it by name. Hotel Balcones de Cuba.
The guys pointed out a building five feet from the old lady on the corner. It has a giant white metal gate.
Heading to the gate I was buzzed in.
Kind of odd. I walked in, and there was a receptionist who just sort of glared at me.
I asked about massage. She indicated that I should head upstairs.
Heading up some stairs I finally have a guy who speaks English to me.
He explained that 30 minutes was 36 k and an hour was (I think) 56 k.
Then he knocked on each room.
I waited then as girls popped out of the rooms.
Here was another strange thing.
The girls didn't stay in the foyer. They popped out 1 by 1 shook my hand gave their name and then popped back into their respective rooms. About 6 of them.
On average they were too chubby and old for me. Maybe 6's and 8's at Lleras park. Roughly 30's. And over 20% BMI. If you like curvy big butted girls these were for you.
The guy came back and and asked mde the name of the girl I liked. I picked one. He brought in towels, soap and a condom.
The girl took off her top and bottom and got ready. No shower. For me or her.
She didn't insist I put on a condom.
I did anyway.
I was a little scared of that willingness to bareback, do I skipped my normal asking for a BBBJ.
I finished in 20 minutes, headed down where again the guy was nowhere to be found.
I tried to pay the receptionist. No dice.
Eventually I went back up and the guy was there to be paid.
After that I grabbed a cab back to lleras park. Or at least I tried to. I flagged down 3 cabs before 1 was willing to go there.
Definitely a sketchy neighborhood, do I was glad to get out before dark.
I'm 5 10,200 lbs, muscular and tattooed but I'd still never risk hanging out in that neighbourhood after dark.
Still 36 k for a quickie? I'm pretty happy with that.
