Well my house in St Pete to MIA is 269 miles ea way, so 538 miles total, my car gets 32 mpg highway, so 16.8 gal x $2. 399 a gal = $40 in gas, $8 a day in long term parking =$48.
So about $90, so I still come out $154 ahead.
A minimum of 6 to 8 hours driving and 1/2 of that after hitting it hard in Colombia. All to save $154. That's $20-25/ hour at best. Throw in the fatigue factor on the return trip & it's not worth it.
The reason I responded is I struggle with the same issue every trip. 2 hours to New Orleans Or 4 hours to Houston. The minimal savings is not woth being on the road for that long, especially on the return trip. JMHO.
Good luck & be safe!!
